Chicago’s Near North Side has earned a reputation as one of the most desirable communities in the city for renters. Residents generally recognize the Near North Side as the area below North Avenue between Lake Michigan and the Chicago River. This large waterfront section of the city incorporates several smaller neighborhoods, including River North, Old Town, and Gold Coast. You’ll find the area’s most popular attractions along the famous Michigan Avenue (AKA “The Magnificent Mile”), a swanky shopping corridor that also incorporates high-end restaurants, trendy nightclubs, and performance venues.
So, what is it like to live in Near North Side? The magnificent Victorian architecture intermingles with the modern skyscrapers, creating a distinctive and timeless atmosphere. This section of the city is also home to a vast array of art galleries, displaying everything from the classical to the contemporary.

Property Ratings at Stanford Apartments
Pro's: Great location, Red Line is two blocks to the West and Lake Michigan is about three blocks to the East where you can go running and see a beautiful view of downtown Chicago. Old Town is close to the Northwest, fancy Gold Coast area to the South East. Starbucks is right downstairs, nightlife available right outside. Some apartments facing away from Division are fairly quiet. Jewel-Osco (closed as of the summer of 2015) is a block away. Laundry on the second floor, never had to wait to use it. Paid $900 for a studio, about 500 sq ft. Hardwood floors. Rarely heard my next door neighbors. The janitor is easy accessible, really helpful, quick to respond. Cons: Small kitchen, my friends said the hallways were creepy, building looks unattractive, packages lay right outside at the entrance, homeless people one to two blocks to the west all the time, demographics are mainly older and/or richer people. Clubs at night one block east attracted drunks at night. Overall, it was a great place to live. Never felt unsafe, had a lot of things located nearby, good sized/priced studio for a place so close to downtown. I lived here because I had a tight budget. If my budget was still tight, I'd consider moving back here.
