With low crime, terrific schools, a strong local economy, world-class amenities, and very agreeable cost of living (many apartments rent for under $700), Ankeny scores exceptionally high livability ratings across the board. Straight north of Des Moines on I-35, Ankeny is a rapidly-growing suburb with a distinctly family-friendly environment. The extensive network of public parks (Prairie Ridge in particular) offer playgrounds, sports fields, and nice scenery all over town. The close Proximity to Des Moines makes Ankeny apartments a great option for commuters and gives residents convenient access to the capital city’s attractions.

Property Ratings at Avondale Trace Condos
Great location. Jennifer in the office is a great help and maintenance was always on top of things. Highly recommend!
This place was perfect for me. A bit more than I wanted to spend, but it is beyond worth it. A great place - beautiful, nice neighbors, updated appliances, helpful assistance when needed - and they were beyond accommodating in helping me get a specific room (which was for my family member who uses a wheelchair so that they were able to visit me with ease!). I have already told them this, but thank you! I'm glad I found this place. Moving out gave me a lot of uncertainty in my life, and it helped to have *this* place to come back to for four years each night.
I love living here I’ve lived here for six months now it’s big and spacious plenty of rooms for my kids and myself you get to have dogs there’s plenty of walking space to walk your dogs you get your own garage Including with rent management is friendly maintenance is always helpful love loving living here great choice price is right would recommend it
Love living here! It's quiet and calm! People are very nice and the proper manager was super cool and nice to talk to and work with getting me set up! I have never had any problems while living here. It's also very nice and affordable!
I absolutely loved my time in these apartments! I never experienced anything negative! I went to Iowa western and lived here with my girlfriend and it was a perfect for the two of us. If we didn’t have to relocate, we would’ve stayed here for three more years!
We always paid on time, never had complaints, left the place immaculate when we moved. The admin we dealt with a lot was nice, helpful. The manager above her (& the folks higher up) are awful. We would bring something to their attention & they'd threaten us with eviction. Three times their alarm system went off overnight & we'd be up for at least an hour while it BLARED inside our apartment, scaring our kids. The final straw was them reporting to some national database that they'd never rent to us again. We wasted $300 in application fees at one place before we found that out. Landlords want on-time rent, no complaints about renters, & a hassle-free move-out & we did all three. But we were apparently bad tenants.
HORRIBLE. Moved in 6/22/19, within the first few months of us living here we had SO MANY issues. A dishwasher that didn't dry and became covered in black mold (took a week to replace and didnt even try to the first time when it was CLEARLY gross), broken washer upon move in, toilet fixed twice, broken faucet handle, hole in another, leak under sink, corroded batteries in carbon monoxide detector (that they supposedly checked a week prior) causing us to evacuate into our cars at 3am in the FREEZING cold with 3 toddlers because the machine went crazy, etc. List goes on. We now have been without air conditioning for almost a month. Matinence has said more than once they will be out the next day to fix and still took a week to show, and then said WE had to of messed with it as to why it stopped working. Had to contact a different property location to come out and found the problem ours couldn't (bad compressor outside). When a lid got flipped, the blame was put on US. Manager lied saying we don't tell her anything, we don't let anyone come in to fix things, and she doesn't know what to do about us. SO GLAD my notice to move out was already in effect weeks prior. We pay way too much for this nonsense.
I've been here for about three years now. When I first moved here, everything was fine. The grounds was clean, grass was cut right, snow was removed properly and it was quite. Now people take your parks, the TRASH IS HORRIBLE AND IS ALL OVER THE GROUND. Now they want to charge for trash removal. The Entry way to the buildings is horrible and nasty and filled of bugs. People playing loud music outside in their cars, and people are working on cars in the parking lot also. The property managers son crawls out of his window and leave the screen of the window on the ground and runs around with no socks on. Dont move here and dont let them tell you other wise why you should.
First year I lived here it was awesome everything was kept up on the property. The second year now that is a whole new story. Snow removal was horrible I had to step in snow up to my calf every day to get to my car. Even when I called and complained nothing was done about it They hardly ever put out ice melt even after you call and complain that your building is out. You have cars that just sit in the parking space that dont move for a year. You have people parking where they want and then you are forced to hunt them down since they are in your spot. Cars sitting in spots that have flat ties that dont move for months !!! When they moved they would have grass clippings all over the patio and not clean them off. I very very disappointed the 2nd year I lived there and for the amount of money that want for rent and the property not being take care of is ridiculous!!!
Parking is bad when the weather is nice- ONE parking place assigned per apt, even for a three bedroom! There are only 3 guest spots per 2 buildings (the buildings have 16 units each). Street parking is impossible most of the winter, and i have had to park in another neighborhood and walk when snow was coming down heavily, when THEIR staff parked in my spot. There is only one entrance/ exit way, and in the winter, they only plow it to one lane for both. Twice, there was someone who got stuck & we were all unable to leave until the problems were fixed, both times by several residents. Maintenance- they keep their staff so short, that it takes forever to get anything fixed. I went a week without a dishwasher, and, separately, 1 then 1 1/2 weeks without a washing machine. When it was super cold -20 this winter, it took them 3 days to fix my heater (tho they did provide space heaters). There are always leaks in the fall/ winter, so you will have mold to scrub. They don't fix leaks unless they last more than a season long. Office- there is no office on site, and when you call the office, it goes directly to a voicemail, and you have to wait for them to return your call, if they do. The manager has a cheerful voice and face, and is mean and cold hearted. I don't know anyone who has had a good experience with her when they reported a problem.

Thank you for your review! We always want to hear how we can improve. Parking is assigned with one parking space & one garage space (included in rent) per condo. We do have some guest parking at this location, however this is not monitored and first come first serve. We know that parking can be an issue especially in the winter months. We are working on a plan that we hope will help with the parking situation. We will still unfortunately be limited to 1 space per unit as described at move in. This was the way the community was built, however hopefully we can still make this a little easier for our residents. We do only have one entrance/exit, we had a lot of snow this year. More than what Iowa has seen in almost 10 years. We want to thank everyone that took understanding in that. We never want our residents to get stuck or feel like they were not taken care of. We worked very hard to accommodate this last winter and can assure you that this coming winter will be a lot smoother than last. We found that we had a couple roof issues over this past winter, we have recently called out roofers to ensure that these problems don't come about again should we get the same amounts of snow. Due to the heavy amounts of snow that sat on the rooftops this created issues when it started to melt. We have to rely on our residents to let us know when these things are happening so that we can properly correct the issue. Our Avondale Trace office will be opening back up again soon! We will be sure to alert everyone once we are up and running! We have a maintenance staff of 4 dedicated to all of our locations. 1 of the 4 is stationed at our Avondale Trace location to ensure that all of your needs are taken care of in a timely fashion. I cannot speak to the specifics of an individual work order request as I do not know what home this is for. My recommendation is that if we can assist or answer any questions you may have please feel free to call the office 515-223-4433. Thank you again for your review!
I have lived here for a year now, it is horrible! There is no office on site, trying to get anything fixed is a long shot! We constantly have bugs coming in and had to get bug repeller ourselves! In the winter you can expect to get stuck in the snow or in your parking spot,as they do not scoop your personal parking spot or visiting parking spots! Management is very rude and unhelpful and doesn’t follow the rules themselves as they live here also. Do not live here!!
We’ve lived here for over a year now and love our place! Maintenance and management have been awesome! They are prompt to answer question, address maintenance issues, and whatever else they can to ensure our living situation is safe and homey! Our little family highly recommends this community!!

Thank you for the kind words! We are so happy to hear that your family enjoys Avondale Trace Condos. Our office will be opening back up again soon. We will be sure to alert everyone once this is finalized. Thank you again for your review!!!
If you are thinking about living here start looking elsewhere immediately. My family made the mistake of signing a 12 month lease in a 3 bedroom here and it has been nothing but a nightmare. When we moved in the carpets were full of holes and needed to be replaced, we have black mold in our windows and bathrooms, the fridge smelled like something died in it and they moved three college students above us that party all weekend and do what most kids their age do now days, stay up all night with their tv blasting and smoking pot. We’ve had to call the police almost a dozen times and despite those things being a breach of lease, they have been allowed to stay because management won’t make them leave. Every night we have to seal our vents and turn every fan in our house on just to avoid the smells and the noise. We can’t get out of here soon enough!

We are terribly sorry you feel this way. I would be happy to review with you the list of issues above, and or any current issues you may be having. As you know noise disturbances are addressed when reported and if necessary police reports pulled in order to remedy any negative situations. Thank you for your review and if we can set up a time to go over these issues please call the office 515-223-4433. The leasing office will be opening back up at your community in the upcoming weeks! We look forward to seeing you. Again thank you for your review.
Condo is nice, parking is a challenge. You get assigned parking space but don't be surprised if someone else ends up in your spot and your only option is parking in the street. This is pet paradise and you'll find piles and piles of dog poop throughout the property - no one knows how to pick up the waste so watch your step. Can't wait for spring and the odors that surround us? Not. Good price for short term stay just be prepared for negligence of pet owners and parking nightmare.

Thank you for your review! We have started the Poo Prints Program! This is in effort to assist with those who do not pick up after their pets. We want to promote a healthy environment for all of our furry friends and family members as well as our residents. Parking can be a challenge, we are working on a program with our towing company to better assist with the parking problems we have had! Each Condo will still be provided at move in one parking space per condo and one garage space (included in rent) per condo. Thank you so much for your review!
Parking sucks if you ever want to have guests. Our apartment seemed dirty and had a lot of carpet stains when we moved in. Shoddy finishes (nails sticking out of trim....yikes). Property management is pretty much useless. Takes them forever to plow and they don't do a good job. The amount of space you get for the price is nice. Storage is decent. Definitely not the worst place I've lived but lack of amenities and property management leaves a lot to be desired.
I have really appreciated the help I received during the transition of moving into a new area/state. Staff was very accommodating and helpful every step of the way. Even meet with me and my husband at 11:00pm after a long delay of arriving in town...being 7 hours late!! Thank you very much for keeping us up to date on everything we needed for the move and getting us set up in our new home. Jess :)
My daughter has lived at these apartments since Aug. In January she reported a maintance problem twice. More than 60 days later it still has not been fixed. The maintance of these apartments is very poor. Do not rent them if you want proper maintenance.
