Property Ratings at The Apartments at Charles Plaza
Absolutely not worth it. This place is cheap for a reason. Lived here for a year and a half, trying to move out asap because it’s just too many problems. People throwing flammable crap down the trash chute resulting in evacuation, several fires from people smoking in apartments and having to evacuate at all hours of the day several times within a month is ridiculous. Then there was a run of people breaking into apartments for a while. Fun. Not to mention the trash chute constantly being clogged and if you want to recycle or do laundry you have to go all the way to the bottom level and people are frequently leaving washers and dryers full so it’s very inconvenient. The pool they show in pictures online isn’t even there, it’s been closed for years. Don’t let me get started on the management company. They scheduled several inspections for my apartment and on one of them I was gone for work, but I took pictures of everything to make sure nothing was amiss. When I came home (and I am a young woman that lives alone) I saw my closet door open and a pair of my underwear on the ground that definitely wasn’t there before. Everything is cheaply built, closet hangers peeling, knobs coming off the kitchen cabinets, just everything about this place is horrible. 10/10 do NOT recommend. ESPECIALLY if you’re a woman.
I lived at one of the apartments at the Charles Towers building for close to four years (the price is great and it's in a super convenient location). Through the years it is clear that the level of care used by management has severally deteriorated. Although the employees used to be great and helpful, over the years the current team has satisfied itself with dealing with issues by sending rote emails (usually riddled with typos because they can't be bother to proof read them) which usually do not resolve the issue at all. . The south tower is not a non-smoking building so your apartment will always smell like cigarette smoke. When it doesn't smell like smoke it will smell like your neighbor's cooking as smells travel very well throughout the building. If you complain to management they will deal with the issue by sending out one of the emails I mentioned before and nothing else. There are constant issues with the elevators (they always allow people to reserve them for moving etc. at 4-6pm which causes huge backups for the other elevators) and they have broken down numerous times which means that sometimes people have to wait hours for them to be fixed or use the stairs (there are 30 floors). The worst issue by far, however, is the A/C - heating system which runs on water. That means that you either have access to heat or AC but never both. The entire building has to go through a process of about a week to switch over from heating to cooling and vice versa (this is pretty common in old buildings). The real issue is not that the change requires a week, but rather that when the seasons change, the building takes advantage of people not wanting to use the AC (in the fall) and the heater (in the spring) and usually leaves the residents to suffer (the leave the heat on for a while in the spring and the AC on for the fall) for about a month and a half before making the switch. I suspect they do this because utilities were included in the rent and they wanted to save money. This year 2021 - the management team did not line up a contractor to make the switch (I am not sure if they were just negligent or if they forgot that summer comes after spring) and that has meant that residents did not have access to AC for the bulk of the month of May (where temperatures reached over 90 degrees). This lack of care on their part ultimately led to my decision to move out despite how much I loved the area.

My lease is about to be up in June, so I start looking for a new place and a change of scenery if you will. It is now the beginning of April, so I know it is a long shot to reserve a place so far in advance. However, just to my luck, I came across this place on the app and decided to give them a call. They were extremely helpful and had a perfect apartment for me that will be available in June. It was like a match made in heaven. We still live in a pandemic world, so all our conversations happen through emails, but they are so quick to respond. They provided answers to all my questions. The process is so easy and I am so excited to call this place my home.

Thank you for sharing your review of Charles Towers Apartment Homes. We are so happy to hear how pleased you are with our staff and the move-in process. Thank you for sharing your experience and we look forward to officially welcoming you as a resident with us!
Noisy environment, and when you report the issue to the managers, they won't do anything. Nowadays, there is a huge noise from the corner of N Liberty street and W Lexington street, many residents reported multiple times, they just sit there and do nothing.

I’ve been living at Charles Towers for the last 5 months, and my experience so far has been amazing! Charles Towers provides the convenience that I’m looking for. I work within walking distance of the building, so I don’t have to worry about finding a parking space downtown (it can really be a pain). Speaking of parking, the cost of parking can be a bit steep if you choose the garage underneath the building; but if you don’t mind paying a little extra for the convenience, it’s worth it. We have a full-service grocery store in our plaza, as well as a food court. There are so many good things I can say about this apartment, but one of the best things is this: I love having ALL basic utilities included in the rent! In all my years of living in apartment buildings, this is the first building I’ve lived in that includes the utilities (even electricity). I'd definitely recommend Charles Towers to anyone who's looking for a new place to call home!
I lived in apartment 209 for a year with no issues until the roof started leaking. The roof leaked 3 times within a two month span and it was a headache to fix because the communication in the office was discombobulated. Fast forward to May 2017, the whole tower from the 19th floor started to leak and because I lived in the second floor my apartment got it worse. After they hurriedly patched it up, the roof started leaking two days later. Every time they don't claim laibility, they keep explaining that the leaks are from different causes. Then they have contractors coming in and out your home whenever they feel like it, calling you at 4am to enter your home To begin work and after I told them about leaving supplies in the apartment which can hurt someone, they didn't care and I ended up being stabbed by several nails which they carelessly strew all over the floor of the apartment. So if you are moving into 209 or the other apartments on the north tower, I hope you have a rain coat to weather the constant leaks you'll experience.
I would NOT recommend living here. I recently found a bedbug in my apartment. I reported it and was told that someone would get back to me. I had to call numerous times before someone finally got back to me. Then I was asked to provide proof. See image below. Brian finally got back to me and was extremely rude and nasty per usual. I guess he got annoyed because I was on campus at the time and its tends to be noisy during lunch hour which is the only time that I have to call due to the fact that I am a full time student. Anyways he informed my that since I found and reported the bug that it is my responsibility to pay for extermination. He went on to say that they will be taking care of it with my money. I had to pay regardless. See paragraph 19 of the lease. Then he had Cindy or Candy, who was also very unhelpful and extremely rude and nasty call me. She also claimed that it was my fault and that I have the bugs. But keep in mind that I have lived here for a year without any problems. So clearly they are coming from someone else not me. I am lucky my lease is month to month and I can move out in 30 days. I liked living here and I liked my apartment until today. Southern Management is heartless. So please read your lease carefully and that goes for all properties. And DO NOT MOVE into any southern management community.
I highly recommend Charles Towers! Charles Towers is in a prime location right in the middle of downtown. Charles Towers shares a building with a grocery store/cafe, a food court, a coffee shop, the Peanut Shoppe, a beer and wine shop, and a dry cleaner. As if all that wasn’t convenient enough, a 24-hour 7-Eleven is across Saratoga Street (close to the North Tower), and another 24-hour 7-Eleven is across Liberty Street (close to the South Tower). Charles Towers is safe. The front desk is staffed 24 hours a day. There are security cameras and controlled-access entry; you need a fob to enter either tower’s lobby. The sidewalks around the building are well-lit at night. Everyone on Charles Towers’s staff provides excellent customer service. The Leasing Center made it easy to apply and move in. The Resident Services Center has promptly responded to all of my service requests. The housekeepers keep the common areas remarkably clean. The front desk professionals are always courteous and helpful, and, since there’s someone there 24 hours a day, you can pick up your packages anytime. (This is great for people like me, who love shopping on Amazon.) Charles Towers is very well-maintained. Whenever there’s routine maintenance, advance written notice is provided regarding when and why maintenance personnel will be in the apartment. The elevators are rarely out of order, and they never stay that way for long. The rents are highly competitive -- even more so when you consider that water and electricity are included in the rent. (There are no gas-powered appliances.) Never pay for utilities again! Plus, there are no hidden fees; the advertised rent is the actual rent. What you see is what you get! The floors and walls are so thick that the apartments are very quiet. I rarely hear my neighbors or people in the hallway. Each apartment has its own thermostat. It’s easy to keep the place cool in summer and warm in winter. There are multiple laundry rooms, and, like the rest of the common areas, they’re clean and well-maintained. I’ve never been unable to do laundry due to occupied or out-of-order washers or dryers. Charles Towers has some of the best views in Baltimore. The South Tower has 30 floors, and the North Tower has 27. If I’m not mistaken, both towers are among Baltimore’s four tallest residential buildings. Bottom line: For a living experience that towers over the rest, check out Charles Towers!
i have been living at Charles Towers for ten months. This has been one of the best decisions i have made in my rental history! About my apartment: I have a one bedroom junior apartment. The floor plan is excellent. I do have a small bedroom, but it is countered by a HUGE walk in closet. I have so much room in the closet that I did not need to put any other furniture in my bedroom other than a nightside table & a small media tower for my tv. The walk in closet connects my bedroom & bathroom, and there are two separate doors for my bathroom (through the closet & the main hallway). My living/dining area has more than enough space for my round dining table &chairs, sofa, chairs, kitchen cart, and home office desk. The kitchen is small (hence the cart being in the living area), but I have new black appliances & a faux granite countertop. About the complex - Charles Towers has EVERYTHING that you need within a block radius! There is a food court with six different food establishments serving pizza, sandwiches, even sushi! There is a Wine &Spirits Shop, Dry Cleaners, Coffee Shop, Peanut/Candy Store - all directly in front of the buildings. Did I also mention the on site grocery store that just opened?!?!?!?!?!?! Within the apartment complex itself, there is a seasonal pool with rooftop deck; business center where you can surf the internet, conduct business, and print out your documents; a fitness center with cardio & weight machines; and not one but TWO event spaces - one that residents can use at any time (equipped with a pool table darts, full kitchen) & one that can be reserved for special parties! There is an underground parking garage (but be prepared to pay $170 a month) as well as a street level lot ($150 a month). About Southern Management - I have rented a few apartments in my time, but none compare to the service that Southern Management provides. In addition to your utilities being included in your rent (big plus), the staff truly go out of their way to make sure that you know you are valued. This month, the Resident Services department has the following events for residents: 1. Breakfast on the Go 2. Halloween Party at HomeSlyce All of this in just the month of October! In addition, they have planned bus trips, vaccination events (cold & flu season is coming), and other get together Maintenance - The maintenance team is beyond reproach! Any issues, concerns, problems I have had were resolved quickly & professionally.
This community is very nice. It is close to the things you need like the market, as well as entertainment. The staff is friendly and so are our neighbors. Oh, and the view is incredible.
perfect building if you want a quick walk to the metro, great restaurants and outdoor space. The common areas are well maintained and staff incredibly helpful. Unlike other apartments in this area, it has a large courtyard with a pool, lounge chairs and dining tables. It’s like having a touch of country right in the middle of the city.
