Asylum Hill is just one mile from Downtown Hartford, affording residents year-round access to city celebrations and festivals. The community is over 615 acres and slightly hilly, with the largest hill located to the west of the downtown area.
Aside from its natural river border, Asylum Hill is bound by Interstate 84 and railroad tracks. Before insurance agencies moved into the area in the 1920s, the community was mostly farmland. Aetna remains a staple and large employer in the community – the company is located on Farmington Avenue.
The community is pretty multicultural and attracts tourists with its historic landmarks, such as the Mark Twain House and Harriet Beecher Stowe Center. In addition to their affordable apartments, residents enjoy taking a stroll through Sigourney Square Park.

Property Ratings at Farmington Ave Apartments
I lived here for 4 years and the only negative thing I have to say about it is that the property managers are NOT responsive, do not follow up well and if you have ongoing issues they will not answer the phone at times. I had 3 major HVAC issues toward the end of my time there with very poor follow-up/through. Other than that I enjoyed the area and the apartment itself.
I made a mistake of thinking that these reviews were a small but loud minority of tenants. I was wrong. PMC property group is the most despicable organization I have ever encountered in the entire entirety of my life. I have had a $400 electric bill all winter long, because they refuse to weatherize the building. My water is yellow, and when I asked them to please fix my toxic water they told me that "oh, that's just the way the water is. "I have been here for a little less than a year and needless to say, I will not be renewing my lease here stay as far away as possible.
Property management company is terrible. It took them over 4 weeks to process my lease with me regularly checking in. I wasn't able to get my lease until the day after I was supposed to move-in, so I had to pay for additional hotel and moving-truck. They don't answer email and only answer the phone 1/3 of the time. Package delivery is a mess because it is a secure room but amazon and other delivery companies don't know how to access the building or the room so things are either left outside of the room or not delivered at all. There is no way to do guest parking and you have to go to the lobby to let anyone in because the panel to buzz residents doesn't work. I would move today if they didn't charge me a month's rent to break the lease.
If you like to hear the sound of sirens and never getting your packages this place fits you. The management team is terrible, no one cleans up their dog poop, and the cleaning guy sucks. I could go on and on but maybe the 8 mice I caught in 2 months will convince you.
