Property Ratings at Sonter
If you are planning to rent in this community, please be aware of the ongoing parking issues: This property holds about 100 units. About 50 of them have garages and the rest have carports. Along with that, there are about 40 open parking spaces and 7 reserved parking spots (for management staff). This is roughly about the 60-year-old property. The garages are too small to fit in any sedan like Camry / Accord / Acura / Lexus / Tesla sedans, definitely not designed for every day IN and OUT exercise, without scratching sides. You can not get in any SUVs / Vans for sure. Further, Garages have weird shapes, narrow down when going inside, so that’s another issue. The garages are also of different widths. Most of the residents have 2 or more cars, with some of them 3+ as well. Further, due to the recent pandemic, most of the garages are being used as a home office / extra room by residents, as they can’t use them as car parking spots. This creates a very complicated parking issue across this community. If you arrive after, let’s say 8 pm, all of the parking will be taken and you may end up parking on street (if available) - if not in your garage or parking spots. Now, parking on a street has another risk - as City wants the street parking empty every other Thursday (otherwise you get a 300$ ticket), along with the safety of your car on street (broken glasses due to recent increase in thefts). And as a bonus, Management has about 7 parking spots reserved for their use (which you have to empty before 8/9 am or you are cited, even during weekends). There are 2 managers, 3 maintenance people, and 7-reserved (marked) parking spots. Management is not interested in solving the parking issue seriously, they have no idea which garage is assigned to who / which carport is assigned to which unit. They just assign it randomly. In short, parking is an ongoing issue in this community.
The community is way too noisy. The children make noise all the time, shout like crazy. Please do not live here is looking for a peaceful life. Have lived in a few communities in Cupertino, this is the worst so far.
More families find the mice even the second floor .The rents are changed more frequency even every week. The old residents rents go on every year even higher than the new residents .The new manager is not nice for residents and provider the bad service .Too many parties .
I recently moved to the community, I really liked the way they have maintained it. All the equipment in the apartment is new. Everything is neat and clean. The community is all green with lots of flowers. I get a good vibe when I return from work. I would personally like to thank Trong, the community manager for making the leasing process super easy and smooth for me. He made me aware of all amenities and the neighborhood. He showed me the apartment twice on my request and answered every question that I had. Also, he presented me with a small gift when I moved in, it was a great gesture. I feel the community is safe, I got a personal garage for car :) . Overall, I would recommend this community to anyone who is looking to have a peaceful life. Thanks & Regards!
I was reading these reviews and felt like I needed to speak up. I have been a resident at this community for a while now and I can honestly say what an amazing transformation I have seen since we got a new manager. What a breath of fresh air she has been. Do you know how irritating it is to come to the office (an inconvenience already) and not EVER see your manager, well I did until Alexandra started here. It concerns me that people would come here and write such outrageous things. Alexandria is alwyays so attentive and responds to request immediately. Alexandria is always in the office and always willing to do anything she can for our community. I will admit there have been times where I’ve asked her something and she has said NO (no one likes to hear no); however, I know that she did everything she could to accommodate my request even if the outcome wasn’t desirable for me. I also want to talk about the comments below regarding kids cant enjoy the community because of rules. First off before anyone becomes a resident there is an extensive lease that you need to sign. In there is clearly states that there is no balls, bikes or scooters allowed. I have been here for several years, raised my family here and these rules have been here Since I have. On multiple occasions have been almost run over by unsupervised kids breaking the rules and every time there is no parent in sight. This is very dangerous! As the manager it is her job to enforce the rules to everyone. She is making the community a better and safer place for all resident. Getting mad at her and writing these horrible reviews is wrong she is doing is her job. If you don’t like the rules that you knew existed before you moved in your shouldn’t have moved in. Rules are here for a reasons they are to be followed not to be broken. Again I just want to say how incredibly happy I am living here and what an improvement I have noticed since our new manager has been here.
Lived here for a few years. They changed the community manager and she was just terrible - rude to the tenants including children. Horrible customer service. The property manager isn't the greatest, either. Very nice living environment but kids can't enjoy it because of the "rules." You can find a much better place elsewhere.
The manager Alexander doesn't allow kids to play in the playground, playing ball, riding bike, etc. All kid favorite activies are disallowed. There are many absurd things I heard from this commnity neighbours: 1. There was one 1.5 years old girl playing ball in the community, Alexander rushed to her, yelling to her and threaten her to stop playing ball outside. This is just one years old girl, Alexander is so rude, obviously this baby girl was frightened, and she can't stop crying. Even after that, whenever she saw Alexander, she will start crying. 2. There was a India couple who has lived in this commnity for many years, one day, the husband lose theri job and have to go back to India, since it's unexpected employment termination, they have to quit the rent. They remember they have additional clause in their contract, the employment termination introduced by company will be exampt for punishment. But when they find out the renewed contract, they find Alexander delete this item, so they have to pay two month rent before go back to India. When we moved in, there was another commnity manager, and she managed this community well, so no one wants to move out, there is no available room in most case, but after Alexander move in, every one of us feel this is not like our home any more, now there are many balloon outside, no one wants to stay here any more...
If you thinking about to rent this apartment you have to forget about your deposit because after you moved out from apartment, they find excuses for not to give your deposit, like BUG.
I am living in this apartment for a few years now. I must say - this is not the property it used to be. In the past 12 months, since new property manager has taken over - Alexandrea, this property has started sinking down. There is a fantastic play area but no kids are allowed, every month in the newsletter, they keep saying - this is not a play area. they also stop kids from playing anywhere in the property. plus the manager lady acts as she is the principal of the school - very rude, strict, has no feelings for you, only looks at money and how to rent out the apartments to new tenants by speaking sweetly. The management has also decided to give out this property to high school and college students now. which means - this is not a family property, not good for young kids as the new students bring in all sort of adult nuisance, smoking in the property, driving cars at high speed in the drive ways, absolutely no safety for children. if we go to manager lady - the answer is - oh we have a new change of management, this is an open community, blah blah blah. in other words no words of sympathy or understanding. she did not even listen to you. the property itself is very old, regular water leakages, rain water leakage thru new windows, overflowed toilets is usual. even though with all these limitations, they are increasing rents by about 500 dollars a month, which is ridiculous and not even talking about compromise. this is absolutely insane. in short, I would not recommend this property at all. I can not put my name here as I am a current resident of this property, stuck due to the kid's school. This was the best community about a year back but NOT NOW. å
