Property Ratings at Hawthorne Hills Apartments
My experience with this place started out alright. They moved me into a unit last summer with a broken intercom and broken AC and I chalked it up to the unit being empty for awhile and let it slide. After waiting until September for the AC to be fixed (meaning I had no AC for the summer, they didn't even bother with the intercom), I should have took that as a warning for what was to come. Now here we are, another AC- less summer, countless calls to maintenance and the front office with no real answers. They don't even have anyone working in the office. I go during office hours to find the door locked and the place deserted. I have things that I reported months ago that still haven't been fixed. I've called other properties that are managed by the same company to try and find answers and still- nothing. They will try to sell you on their spacious units but unless you have a strong desire to deal with the poor management and absent maintenance, then I suggest that you look elsewhere.

We lived in two different buildings and experinced many issues in both. First building we lived in had a dishwasher that leaked, and a fridge that leaked. Both took 2 weeks or more to get replaces. And that was after constant calls and a letter stating we wouldn't pay rent until it was fixed. A.C. in both places didn't work. They never fixed it in the first place no matter how many times we tried to tell them. Second building it worked then stopped after we didn't have it on for a couple weeks. Their solution was to tape cardboard to hook this old portable a.c. up instead of fix the problem. That was after calling and stopping in multiple times. Both places had a problem with stink bugs getting in because the screens never stay all the way shut. There were a few positives such as the place stays pretty quiet, the size is nice, they allow pets and the price is reasonable. I caution you though, it may seem like they're going to get everything fixed and ready when you move in but don't believe them. Stuff will be broken in a week and you'll be stuck for a year trying to get it fixed.

I moved in mid April of 2016. For the first 3 days there was no water to the shower or dishwasher. They managed to fix the shower after about 3 days. It took over a week for them to hook up water to the dishwasher. That’s when I discovered that the plumbing to the kitchen sink was done wrong – if you poured anything down the sink it ended up in the bottom of the dishwasher. It took until the end of June for them to fix that issue. Then when you leaned on the kitchen sink all of the pipes would fall apart, this took two weeks to fix. In the mean time water started appearing in my Master Bedroom closet (this happened after the shower was fixed so in the first week of my moving in). I called multiple times. The maintenance kept saying it was coming from upstairs and that they couldn’t do anything about it. It is now almost August – I have pictures of mushrooms that were growing out of the constantly soaked carpeting. Black mold is growing in the master bathroom from the water. They finally fixed the leak (it only took 11 weeks!) but they have yet to repair any of the damage done by the water. I have not only spoken with the apartment manager on multiple occasions, but have also contacted the corporate office about the poor job their apartment manager is doing. Now I have water coming in from the outside and flooding the spare bedroom when it rains. My neighbor hasn’t had working AC all summer. Another neighbor had their motorcycle stolen out of the parking lot. The pool was closed down by the health department. What makes me sad about all of this is that these apartments could be wonderful. Most of the people who live here are good people that are all miserable at the state of the buildings. They need to clean house – get an apartment manager with some sort of concept of how to do the job, hire maintenance people with both skills and a desire to work, and then fix this place up. There is no reason for it to be this bad. I wouldn’t recommend living here to anyone.
