Property Ratings at Hub Columbia
Pool is constantly closed, Building management average age is 19. Reported bugs after they didn’t properly check out a non-student resident (yes, there are non-students “room-matched” with unknowing students. Three days and no response to maintenance request. The place is a joke. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!!!
If I could give less than 1 star I would! The office staff is disorganized and unprofessional. Escalation to corporate "CoreSpaces" is useless. All the feedback on the lack of availability of the pool and other amenities is spot on. Roommate matching service is a joke. They rent to non-students and you have no ability to object or change the situation even if they have unrented units because "they will be seen as losing a lease". Car was also broken into in the parking garage. One night at 11:45pm, traffic in the parking garage was at a standstill for 45 mins. Call the emergency line to see if they were aware of what was occurring... told "what do you want us to do" If you take my rent, make sure I can get to my spot. AVOID RENTING HERE AT ALL COSTS. DO NOT BE TAKEN IN BY WHAT YOU THINK YOU ARE GETTING!
Hidden fees for everything on your monthly bill, including "move-in" and "billing" fees. $100's of dollars when your lease expires for normal wear and tear painting and cleaning. Would almost be acceptable if the place was kept clean and the amenities worked well - elevators and wi-fi, etc. Much higher value locations and rentals within Columbia. Hub s/b considered a rental of last resort.
My daughter was a tenant 3 years ago. Upon termination of lease we were told the unit was in excellent condition. Two years after she left I was contacted that there were "damages" owed for $360. I contacted Hub and they told me these charges would be removed. Two months ago I received a call from a collection agency indicating I owed $180 for "painting" to the Hub. The amount owed is less than I would spend for an attorney, and do not want my credit effected during this process, so I was forced to pay. We are not the only ones this has happened to. We are reporting Hub to BBB and attorney general in Columbia. DO NOT STAY HERE.
I like my apartment building. It has great amenities like a rooftop pool, a gym, a hot tub, and a steam room. There is a little balcony where you can look out over the city. I just moved there in August. I have two roommates in order to be able to afford the rent and I have the smallest room and no window. I share a bathroom with one other roommate and we all share a kitchen and living room. I love that my apartment is on Main Street. It is near a lot of cool stuff including the State House, the Nick indie movie theatre, plenty of restaurants, etc. Also, on Saturdays there is a Farmer's Market with plenty of organicproduce right in front of our building. I'm enjoying my new apartment.
Don't be fooled by all the hype. I have never lived in such a poorly run apartment building before. Had I realized that I had better options--and for less--I would have taken them instead of renewing my lease for this coming year. First and foremost, the rent is ridiculous. You are paying twice as much as other places where you could have paid less. The TV and Internet don't work half the time and my biggest pet peeve is the fact that they cut corners while building this place. The walls are terribly thin and the layout of the air conditioning vents are the most awkward thing ever. An arctic blast in the living room but next to nothing in the bedroom and no circulation in the bathroom what so ever. Not to mention if you do have a problem, you'll be belittled by the students working the front desk and if you actually want something fixed, you might as well just ask maintenance because they'll get it done before the front office has even put your request through. All I'm saying is, if you're in a bind and absolutely need an apartment, there are worse places to live but if you can actually do your homework, look else where. The only plus is, it's close enough to walk to and from campus. That will help you pay for the astronomical amount of rent you'll have to pay instead.
