Asylum Hill is just one mile from Downtown Hartford, affording residents year-round access to city celebrations and festivals. The community is over 615 acres and slightly hilly, with the largest hill located to the west of the downtown area.
Aside from its natural river border, Asylum Hill is bound by Interstate 84 and railroad tracks. Before insurance agencies moved into the area in the 1920s, the community was mostly farmland. Aetna remains a staple and large employer in the community – the company is located on Farmington Avenue.
The community is pretty multicultural and attracts tourists with its historic landmarks, such as the Mark Twain House and Harriet Beecher Stowe Center. In addition to their affordable apartments, residents enjoy taking a stroll through Sigourney Square Park.

Property Ratings at Studios @ 270
The studios may look nice at first, but it is in a really dicey neighborhood. Where do I start? For one thing, there are a lot of break-ins. No one broke into my apartment thank goodness, but residents of the complex would leave the outside doors open and homeless people would get into the lobby and hallways. As a small woman living on my own I did not feel comfortable with that. There were several problems with the complex itself. During the winter months, my thermostat was set to 93 degrees for over a month before they fixed it. The gate to the parking lot was extremely unreliable. I always left a half-hour early in case the gate wouldn’t open to let my car out. Coming back from work, I would often have to park on the street where cars were broken into because the gate wouldn’t open with my fob. I had to get my own wifi because the building’s was terrible. Also, there is laundry available in the complex, but you have to pay. My packages were always stolen so I had them sent to my boyfriend's house. I am a teacher and I had to have Amazon refund me over $200 in school supplies. If you have any issues walking up stairs I would avoid the place altogether. The elevator is always broken. Frequently there are people yelling obscenities down the street and sometimes in the complex itself. It’s just not a pleasant place to live. I felt incredibly uncomfortable and unsafe there. Find a better place to live if you can!
Do not live here. Pretty sure the property manager is writing fake reviews because there are SO MANY break ins in the area. You cannot invite guests here because the walls are paper thin and they’re not allowed to park in the parking lot(which has the tiniest spaces ever). So, they have to park in the street. Again there are so many break ins in this area. I wouldn’t dare invite a guest over to this apartment. The laundry machines is often times filthy. Smoke and mirrors alert! Do not believe any positive review. You will regret it. Walls paper thin, water shut offs and broken parking lot gate with no information to the tenants. If you’re not a broke college student do not live here. You can do better
Property Manager at Studios @ 270, Responded To This Review
Thank you for your review. I can assure you none of the reviews are fake. We offer off street gated parking but it is only for our residents. This allows residents to have a space when they come home. Our Controlled Access building is kept clean and is more secure than most. Our Laundry room (and entire building) is new and sanitized several times per week. I would recommend for anyone to come see for themselves. Our building looks exactly like the pictures.
In the two years that I live here, my Nissan Maxima was never broken into whether I parked in the private parking in the back or on the street out front. I've left my car parked for long stretches of time when I traveled home for the holidays and my car was always fine when I came back to it. I lived in one of the spacious Studios @ 270 for two years. It was definitely cost effective for me since I'm a student trying to stretch my dollar. The walls are a bit thin and I did have a 20 to 25 minute drive to school in the mornings--it's only 15 minutes outside of rush hour traffic. However, I didn't mind the few extra minutes drive to the UConn Storrs campus because I was saving money by living here. The rent includes heat, private parking in the back of the building, and wifi--which I didn't have a problem with. These are all amenities that cost extra in other places that I considered. There's onsite laundry, a small gym, and a meditation room, all of which were clean every time I used them. The building manager was always respectful and responded to my maintenance requests the same day.She was very accommodating even before COVID. From the day the building opened, Laura worked to keep the building safe while adding conveniences that made this a great bargain for me. Since my unit faced the street, I could look forward to a beautiful sunset. And It was fun to decorate! If not for my needing a bigger place because my parter is moving in, I most likely would have stayed a little longer.
Car break ins often on this street. Do not live here. All smoke and mirrors. Paper thin walls and floors.
I ignored the other the other negative reviews before I moved in, as they were mainly complaining about the Wi-Fi, which I did not view as an issue. However, these apartments were cheaply renovated. They are the noisiest apartments I have ever lived in. Every hallway noise can clearly be heard within your unit, and noise from other apartments can easily be heard as well. It is impossible to sleep soundly here. That is the primary problem, but there are numerous other issues as well. Go elsewhere!
This building is attractive on the surface but has underlying hidden issues that eventually come to surface as you live here. The water is never hot enough and takes 5 minutes to get warm, the heat is controlled in a way where it isn't really warm/ does not really turn on until late at night. Plumbing issues, leaks, discoloration in the bathroom walls/doors. Extremely thin walls, hallways that echo into each unit. Someone talking in the hallway is so incredibly loud because of the echo. Imagine construction or other nosies. Someone units away talking or watching a movie can also be heard through your unit. Someone who is maybe 3-5 units down can still be heard in YOUR UNIT. It's really bad, inconvenient, and quite frankly uncomfortable. Loud stomping above you - I'm sure these people are walking normally. It's a matter of the walls and floors being extremely thin. Small dumpster, tight parking, terrible plow jobs that block cars in. Wifi that doesn't work - you will need to get your own wifi. Incompetent maintenance who cannot do the job correctly the first time. The property manager does not inform any residents of any issues going on unless very severe. The property manager does not let residents know about issues of construction noise on a particular floor or water being turned off. There is a lack of courtesy and it makes it an unwelcoming place. Simply a business, you are here just to increase their profit. All of these issues - in spaces that are incredibly small. Studios that are considered luxury because on the outside look very appealing but are really very flawed. Extremely overpriced place with really inconvenient issues. I would not recommend it to anyone. You can do much better, I wish I had. That's why I'm posting this - hopefully you will search for somewhere better.
Free Wifi: Wifi that is free crashes every half an hour, will not stream anything other than standard definition youtube/netflix videos. This building is the epitome of putting lipstick on a pig. Pros: Appliances are amazing, secure building and parking. Cons: Incompetent building manager, thin walls, you can hear your neighbors sneeze and every step taken above you. Uneven flooring, walls, just sloppily put together units.
Its the classic trick in the first days everything nice good ... But the time is the truth in couple of weeks start the problem with Wi-Fi and is not true that they say i am waiting for this service because they have in the unique features offered if you don't Wi-Fi don't put it on.
This is a great apartment. The amenities are amazing and the building is newly renovated, if you work in downtown this is your place. Aetna is just across the street and downtown Hartford is just one mile walk. If you don’t prefer to walk, the bus stop is in front as well. I'd highly recommend this building. The place is safe, don’t get scared by the fake reviews!
The interior is beautiful and I love my apartment. The cushioning in the frame of the door is great to keep out sound, which was an issue I had in previous living situations, so that is definitely a benefit! The main light fixture in the living space is gorgeous and I love the kitchen space. The large windows are also a beautiful addition.
