Laurel enjoys a unique position roughly halfway between DC and Baltimore, and its relative seclusion makes it an attractive option for commuters who work in either city but prefer a small-town home environment. The close proximity to Fort Mead also makes Laurel a popular option for Department of Defense employees and military personnel seeking off-base housing.
The cost of living is rather affordable, and apartments tend to rent for much more reasonable rates than closer to the major cities nearby. While almost exclusively residential, Laurel does feature a handful of large shopping centers along its major roadways as well as a quaint Main Street district, the perfect place to grab a cup of coffee in a friendly café before heading off to work.

Property Ratings at Laurelton Court
Recently I was looking for an apartment. Two of my friends and I wanted to get a place we can share together. I Live on Fort Meade, Military base. We have pretty decent homes on base. Now that we are getting older it's about that time to move out. We've been looking for places all over, ones that fit in our set budget of course. I currently work two jobs with a car on the way. One has a job and one is in the military. We together could pull $1300-$1500 a month for an apartment and have enough for any other expenses. Upon looking for a place together, I stumbled upon Laurelton Court. Three bedrooms with a beautiful kitchen and all of have walk in closets as well as a big closet in the living room. Water, gas, heat, etc. Is free, a one time cost for application, Then our monthly rent, that fit perfectly into our budget. We had seen other places that were pretty good, however the Kitchen sold me. It was big, just like the one in my home on base, it had a big single counter. The kitchen is what we needed because we all like to cook and eat a lot. Therefore the Kitchen had to be big enough to fit us all and it did . The 3 bedrooms were great as well, one seemed alittle small in the pictures but by seeing in person it doesn't seem that small. There's a park our kids can go to that 's not real far, there's a designated elementary school so we don't have to struggle to find one. A parking space that fits us cause we share one car. We together love this place and we are now just waiting to be approved for a lease. If I was not trying to live here, or if I was already living here I would recommend this place to any and everyone looking for an apartment.
When I received notice that my former Cedar Place Apartments were going "luxury" at the time of my lease re-newel at the tune of an additional $125/mo to a mind boggling $1349 per month utilities, albeit I had a top floor balcony view that backed up to the woods, I realistically had to move due to a recent new-used car purchase. So a friend referred me to SMC Property Management who had a beautiful high rise property with a top 10th floor corner unit with a view over looking Laurel Lakes for $15 less than what I was paying in Columbia: $1210 Utilities (about $1300 total). I signed up and got pre-approved for the dream unit with 12 month lease. But as I was driving away after signing the lease I came across another SMC property that also had a top floor unit (albeit 3rd floor) but the floor plan was perfect with the 1-bedroom that has a walk in closet, wrap around corner windows butted up against two-beautiful tree's a breakfast bar in the kitchen and a dining area in front of balcony the length of the unit! So with these amenities and $125 less per month I was sold! The Management has always been responsive with requests as my first one regarding the bottom shelf of my fridge freezing up with ice eventually lead to a new fridge. Carmen and Sonia even allow me to ship deliveries to the leasing office to avoid delivery notices on my door. In short Laurelton Court Apartments is less than 1/2 mile through neighborhood roads to the new Laurel Town Center that has everything you could possibly want and need: Harris Teeter Grocery store, Sports Authority, Panera Bread, AT&T store a gazillion more that I have yet to visit a Regal 15 Luxury movie theater...enjoying Laurel and the great service at SMC.
