Property Ratings at Parker Towers
This is not luxury living at all. The apathy of the new management team when it comes to personal safety, construction safety (it’s never ending), and basic requests is a reflection of their upper management who doesn’t seem to take accountability for much.
Constant, very loud cinstruction noise for past 3 years. Makes working from home home or recovering from covid frustrating, But they still keep increasing rent despite no quiet enjoyment of residence. I call about construction noise, and they say management will help me, but transfer call to management where leave UNRETURNED voicemail.
I'd advise everyone to stay away from Parker Tower. I've been living here for less than a year, and my experience has been getting worse and worse. The buildings might look nice from the outside (and that was why I was willing to pay $2100 for a studio), but if you're unfortunate enough to live here, then you'll know they're very cheaply done. It takes forever to wait for an elevator even though there're 4 in each building. Walls are ridiculously thin, you can literally hear your neighbor's conversations. Ceiling keeps leaking, and no matter how many times they patch it up, it keeps coming back. They say they're pet friendly, but you must pay $50 a month to have one and you can only enter and exit with your pet through the service entrance, which always stinks. When boxes are wrongly delivered to your door and you try to get them to the right people, instead of helping, the doorman would tell you to just discard them. Management bullies residents who voice their concerns. Everytime I say something, they'd come back a few days later telling me I've violated something so trivial such as putting a doormat outside of my apartment door. I have no intention of renewing my lease, and I'm sure they're not only used to it, they're happy to raise the rent even more.
I lived at Parker Towers for 5 years and this year I am out. Not because I don't like it; it's because they raise the rent almost $300 every year. A lot of people move out because of this. So my rent is now $1500 more from when I moved in? I am on a "preferential rent" which means my apartment is Rent Stabilized but they charge a much lower rent because nobody would pay it. So now they just increase people who are in this rent category so they can add 20% when the person moves out and deregulate the apartment. This place is a scam and should be investigated.
Parker Towers looks great at first, lots of amenities, pet friendly, large and renovated units, but be warned, this is just the facade. The renovations are cheaply done, as are the finishes used in the apartments. There are roaches and mice, even squirrels, running around inside the building. The walls are paper thin, so be prepared to get to know your neighbors very well. In the summer, the stench from the dumpsters can be noticed from a block away and you will be forced to jump over puddles of trash juice. Some of the "highlights" of my stay at Parker Towers include coming home to my apartment door being painted shut, the heavy metal door to the trash chute falling off on my hand, and the kitchen and closet doors falling off their hinges. As for being pet friendly, if you do have a pet, you will be charged $50 extra each month, be forced to walk your dog out the always smelly service entrance, and required to have your pet wear a building issued tag. To get in and out of the service entrance you have to scan your fingerprints and the scanner is rarely working properly.
The place is infested with roaches. Filthy hallways and laundry machines have mold growing inside them. Don't let the fancy rental office fool you, they make it sound like a luxury building but it's a tenement. The "doormen" sit behind a desk and don't move to help you or to open a door so they really shouldn't be called doormen. They say the building is pet friendly yet you can't take your dog thru the lobby you have to bring it out the back alley that stinks like urine cos they never clean it. The fancy waterfall they show in the brochures also hasn't worked for years. Don't be fooled by the fancy hype and pretty pictures, it's a real dump.
Not a good place to live. Been here for several years and things just get worse by the year. Your rent consistently goes up every year; $100 to $600. You will have new neighbors every year because of this, or sometimes every couple of months because I think they do monthly rentals also. They use to negotiate rent but things have changed. They are now stopping other services as well; they are now refusing packages larger than 30 in by 20in unless you are home. Sadly to say after all the years living here I would not recommend this place. You can find others in the area that are much cheaper with little or no rent increases. However the doorman and porters are great; just have to change management and sales reps and maybe that will help.
I will say that the doormen are very courteous. Also, the maintenance staff are polite and respond to calls within a reasonable time frame. That's true. The lobby carpets are probably decades late being replaced. The basement is generally clean and the laundry machines seem to work though they card machine breaks down regularly. The elevators. I would tell anyone considering moving in that it would be a major mistake. The elevator "project" is a disaster. It's so beyond what's acceptable that it's comical. The elevators need to replaced entirely, and the system that runs them needs to be upgraded. Residents' time is so clearly disregarded, which is very insulting. The building needs to spend whatever they need to spend and replace the elevators immediately. And they need to apologize to every tenant personally with a phone call and letter. They should also give existing tenants a reprieve from any rent increases until this time. Of course they wont which is why I will not be renewing my lease.
Renovated building and apartments Large living space for NYC Easy commute to the city Gym Lobby attendant
I've lived in Parker Towers for three years and counting. The apartments are spacious with ample closet space and the laundry facilities in the building are fantastic (plenty of machines). Whenever I have had an issue I have always received a quick response. I live on one of the lower floors so the previous elevator problems did not impact me, however now that they have renovated the elevators it looks like this issue had been resolved. It only takes a minute to walk to Austin street and it's a quick walk to both the subway and LIRR.
The apartment itself is great. I live in a one bedroom and it is very spacious and clean. The floors are beautiful and the walls were all freshly painted when we moved in. There are four closets-three of which are HUGE! The kitchen has lots and lots of cabinets, but the appliances are old and there isn't any dishwasher. The bathroom is old and needs updating. The tile is ALL pepto bismol pink, including the bathtub. The bedroom is ENORMOUS it can easily fit a king sized bed and dressers. The main problem is that the building is a disaster. It is extremely poorly maintained. The renovations that are done take far longer than necessary and are not done well. New wallpaper in the hallways makes the building look like it is stuck in the 70s. Construction on outdoor spaces placed drains higher than the rest of the ground causing large amounts of flooding during storms. Elevators have carpet in them that constantly have dog urine on them. It is truly unfortunate more care is not put into maintaining and managing the building because my apartment itself is really fantastic.
horrible roach problem, its disgusting. week had an exterminator coming weekly. also the tap water is disgusting and smells terrible because they pump chemicals into the water which makes all the roaches come out of the pipes
They only give yearly rent contracts and with every renewal comes a rent increase.... Elevators are broken all the time!
