Property Ratings at MAA James Island
It’s no secret that Charleston housing has gone up quite a bit in pricing over the past few years. As a student, Quarterdeck is definitely on the upper end of what I feel comfortable paying, but I have yet to find any properties that are cheaper without sacrificing privacy or quality of the complex. The 2-bedroom apartments are a comfortable size and the screened-in porch is a very nice feature. Maintenance and pest control requests are always completed promptly. I have an ESA and the staff was very helpful with getting that accommodation in place. While the property is technically in a flood zone (as is all of James island), I have never had issues with flooding, even during hurricane Ian.

I have lived here 3 months. I find it quiet and very well maintained. I find the office staff and the maintenance staff extremely receptive and responsive. I definitely recommend living here

I would not recommend Quarterdeck of James Island to anyone as Andrea and the staff will not work with you on any incident that may occur and will not even contact you to hear your side of the story. It is severely overpriced for low running water in the bath and sinks...it’s ridiculous. You pay high prices for electricity and there isn’t a lot of light in the rooms. Also, the trash compactor is broken half the time and the trash smells up the area where I live at in Quarterdeck. There is dog poop everywhere and have stepped in it multiple times as well as dogs not walking on a leash...and have almost hit a dog before!

Been here a year. The place was remodeled just before I moved in, the grounds are consistently kept very nice with a variety of landscaping & flowers. They have provided events to bring neighbors out, like afternoon bands and pot luck dinner. The pool grills are a nice convenience. I love the outside individual entrances, the convenient location to down town and tons of local stores really close. Very Happy to live here.
I have enjoyed my time living at the Quarterdeck. There have been positive changes with the leasing office and the employees. I feel they are dedicated to helping their residents and providing the best service possible.
The grounds are beautiful, the pools are fantastic, the staff is always willing to listen and help, my apartment over looks the pond and it is relaxing, it is the perfect size just for me.

We are very satisfied with: location; best floor plan for 2 bedroom by far; staff pleasant to work with; Concerns: being an older building sound from apartment above can be bad; the landscaping around the residences can not compare with the plantings and care of the clubhouse area; need more attention beyond once a week to keep grounds clean
I enjoy the community. Unit is slightly dated. Would prefer no carpet.
I would give 5 stars, but the Quarter Deck staff refuses to provide assistance when requested and seem bothered when approached in person. However, maintenance responds to online requests and has positive results with repairs.

I've been at the Quarterdeck for nearly 2 years and everyone is very friendly, helpful and nice. The maintenance team has grown to be very efficient. The office staff are amazing, helpful and friendly. The community is very Peaceful, and Pet friendly. When I've had a hard work week I take a walk around the pond which is surrounded by oak and pine trees, allowing me to relax and rejuvenate. Great place for all ages. I rented an apartment in The Quarterdeck sight unseen after accepting a new position in Charleston area. From the moment I applied until after I moved in the apartment every aspect of the move was perfect! The staff was on point, the apartment is an upgraded unit and perfect for me and the pup! I have put in a couple of maintenance requests and the service department has been prompt and courteous and the residents in this community are very welcoming. I am happy to call the Quarterdeck my new Home!

The staff is always friendly and helpful, and maintenance works quickly. They keep the common areas clean and updated, and the location is great if you want to be near the beach and downtown.
I have lived in the Quarterdeck Apartments for well over 15 years. Crazy? No! Living in this community is wonderful. The apartments are spacious, the property is well manicured and it's just a fun place to live. The location is prime - just minutes from downtown Charleston, SC and from Folly Beach. Plenty of places to go and things to do surround this safe, warm and friendly community I have called home for many years. The staff are wonderful - nothing is ever too much trouble. They are friendly and make you feel like they are there for you - which is how it is suppose to be. The amenities are very nice as well, with two pools with comfortable poolside furniture and grill sites, tennis courts a sand volleyball court. While I do not go to the gym I have been in it and it looks awesome and it is a very active area of the community. There is also a wonderful pond where if you are lucky enough (I am) your perfect size screened in porch looks out over it. Its great fun to watch all the wild life. It seems great for fishing too. This community is upgraded in one way or another quite often. Painting of the buildings, adding grill sites around the property and updating the inside of the apartment homes as well. The curb appeal is quite good and it's so nice to come home to. My favorite new thing they have done recently is put new lights around the pond area. They shine up into the trees which along with the two fountains in the pond, helps to create such a tranquil effect. Still plenty of light to see - but now it is done more artistically. Definitely check the Quarterdeck Apartments out - I am sure you will be glad you did. Cheers!
The day I accepted a nursing position at one of the biggest hospitals in Charleston, South Carolina, my life changed immediately. I uprooted my life from Columbus, Ohio, and moved across the county in a matter of two and a half weeks. Just two days before I was going to be making the 642 mile road trip, I found this apartment. I had found rental after rental, searching daily for weeks, but nothing fit everything I needed. Finally I came across Colonial Grand at Quarterdeck 48 hours before my move, and it could not have gone smoother in such a short time crunch. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. The apartment is newly renovated, offers just what I needed, and is in a great location. But the biggest factor for me personally, was the open pet policy. I love that the complex offers a dog park in the amenities, along with two pools, a gym, and tennis courts as well. I truly feel I lucked out to find such a great place to live.
I recently moved from Michigan to Charleston, SC and went from living in a house to an apartment. The staff at Colonial Grand are very friendly and helpful with any repairs or service work needed. My apartment is almost as big as the house I owned. We have a beautifully landscaped property with 2 swimming pools, tennis courts and an exercise room. Love having a washer and dryer in my apartment and access to laundry room if needed. It is so nice to be able to sit on my screened in balcony and enjoy my tea listening to the birds waking up. One of the best things is my location. There are restaurants and stores within walking distance, 5 minute drive to the City and 10 minutes to the beach. I have it all!
