A former mayor once dubbed Bellingham the “City of Subdued Excitement,” an oddly perfect nickname for this delightful and unique community. Ninety minutes north of Seattle on Interstate 5, Bellingham is a charming small city positioned about twenty miles from the Canadian border. Western Washington University enrolls around 16,000 students, many of whom chose to live in the coastal Sehome area near campus.
Locals are quite enthusiastic about beer, books, and bicycles, and you’ll spot many businesses around town specializing in any and all of those Pacific Northwest staples. Bellingham hosts numerous community events throughout the year, covering everything from music to athletics; perhaps the most unique is the annual Ski to Sea race, a seven-leg relay in which teams compete to get from Mount Baker Ski Area to Bellingham Bay via skis, bikes, boats, and by foot.

Property Ratings at Sunset Pond Apartments
Surrounded by transient camps. I would not want my children near this place. Abhorrent management.
I lived in two different units in this apartment complex, and I will say that you should avoid renting here if you can. It is worth it to drive a little farther or pay a little more. This complex is unsafe and unkempt. There is a homeless camp in the woods behind the property. In the time I lived here I saw the apartment parking lot used to sharpen sticks with machetes, use drugs, blast music, deal drugs, get into fist fights, abandon vehicles and throw trash everywhere. They have fires in the woods and I’ve heard gunshots on many different occasions. I woke up multiple times to police lights in the middle of the night because of whatever goes on back there. The whole time I lived here I felt incredibly unsafe. As other reviewers mentioned I also had random knocks on my door during the day and night. In fact, 4 days before I moved out someone repeatedly rang my door bell, banged on my doors and windows and tried opening my door. When parked in the gravel lot someone threw a rock through my boyfriends car window and stole almost everything inside. The complex didn’t do anything. Last winter one night we almost hit a person lying in the gravel lot trying to park our car. We had to call the police. A month before we moved someone parked next to us in the car port (which are supposed to be reserved.)They were living out of their car and doing drugs. Management allowed them to stay there for 5 days before they had the vehicle towed. I will say the maintenance staff was always on top of it and super friendly. Management was not. The people who own and manage this place need to do better. What I witnessed is unacceptable. You can’t even feel safe in your own home. Don’t waste your money or jeopardize your safety and peace of mind.
Lived here for three years and they've progressively turned into the worst landlords I've ever had. They're neglectful of trash and abandoned cars in the parking lot, they don't tow nonresidents even if they're parked in your carport, they don't do anything about theft and car break ins and allow constant graffiti and drug use in the parking lot. We've seen fights with hatchets and guns, fires, drug deals, children abandoned in cars and last winter two dead bodies in the parking lot. Do not live here unless you're okay with feeling unsafe in your home.
Highlighting the beauty of Bellingham, this apartment complex is surrounded by a beautiful lake/park, a Safeway is located within 2minutes of walking distance with a shopping plaza. Providing an indoor pool/gym area for residents, also well maintained staff, provides an excellent customer service. This place I call home gives me the love of nature and near by access to attractions and entertainment.
