Established in 1942 by the United States Government, Oak Ridge was formed to be the site of the Manhattan Project—the secret World War II program that developed the atomic bomb—and the home base for the tens of thousands who worked on the project, along with their families. Oak Ridge, sometimes referred to as “The Secret City” and “The Atomic City,” became an independent city in 1959. Oak Ridge honors its past with the Manhattan Project National Historical Park, the American Museum of Science and Energy, and the annual Secret City Festival held each June.
Located in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, Oak Ridge offers residents plenty of options for outdoor recreation. The 173-mile-long Melton Hill Lake is a popular destination for rowing, boating, and fishing. Oak Ridge’s 12 scenic greenways and 16 beautiful parks offer ample space for a broad range of land-based activities. Quick access to I-40, I-75, and the Oak Ridge Turnpike connects the city to nearby Knoxville and beyond.

Property Ratings at The Manhattan
I moved here because it was cheap, and there isn’t many other options around, DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE. This apartment complex is little more than a glorified money grubbing pit. They tell every resident something different regarding prices, deposits, fees, rent, etc. and when you ask specific questions the staff will give you roundabout non specific INCORRECT answers. And expect you to pay the consequences. The “maintenance” team is a dishonest joke. And that’s not even talking about the actual apartment buildings themselves!! The units are disgusting and probably don’t meet the most basic safety codes. Mold is all over the place, the floors are riddled with water damage, and the cheap paint they use to cover up blemishes is all over the light switches, doors, and everywhere else it SHOULD NOT be. I had to plaster part of my units wall, and fix the windows myself AFTER the maintenance had “fixed” them by glueing some of them shut! And putting on a gross paste that melted on the others. They still leaked btw. I left the unit in BETTER condition than when I moved in and they still charged me fees. in short: DO NOT MOVE HERE
The BEST advice you will get. Run away and don’t turn back. The pictures that are posted on their website are deceiving. That is not what the apartments looks like inside. There is fleas on the carpets you can see them jumping on you. The carpet is so nasty there is cigarette burns all over the carpets. The refrigerator leaking, roach poop all over the the door edges, in the closest, in the kitchen. There was also rat or mouse droppings behind the refrigerator and around the boiler. If you have kids your babies will get sick or develop a rash.
Crap management, roaches in the buildings, rats in one of our friends apartments, maintenance is a joke at best, don’t waste your time or money
Run as fast as you can and as far as you can away from these crap Apartments. The staff is rude and they lie. Nothing gets fixed and the apartments just suck all around definitely not worth what I'm having to pay for it I'd rather live in a gutter or a cardboard box.
Some of the best parts of living here was: the price Of rent helped me save $, the location was great, convenient to almost everything! Also, living by myself I like small homes to live in. The Cons: The maintenance rarely fix things, mostly just put bandades on everything. I felt as if the management protected some residents over others. I had a particularly loud neighbor who acted as if the world was his & we were taking up his Oxygen! I complained numerous times about him but afterwards it seemed as though management just didn't care anymore. I was putting up with him as long as they didn't have too! When I was moving out I was told in order for them to take legal action i had to complain more than once lol, that just made my skin crawl. Too much noise & a life change is why I moved.
These apartments seemed to be too good to be true, and that's because they are! Pros - cheapest in a 100 mile radius easily, centrally located, great for single college students. cons - outdated buildings, some contain asbestos, lead paint, cops always called out, mailboxes broken into, they do not read over lease before signing, windows leak, paper thin walls, questionable neighbors, uses potent chemicals to clean hallways, staff always changes, people always hit your car. Make sure you read the fine print and always confirm all the details and research the area before considering these apartments.
This place is pretty aweful, there's always police cars here and the management does not care about you.
