Property Ratings at Trappers Cove Apartments
I moved here in May. Since then I have had maintenance at my apartment just about every other week. The place is a dump and things keep breaking. The worst part is there is this grinding noise occurring every night from the ac/furnace area. The noise is so loud in the master bedroom that I now sleep on the floor in the other room. Maintenance, while very nice, hasn’t been able to fix the problem yet so I am paying for a place I can’t sleep in. The people in my area also throw trash on the floor in the hallways and leave their trashbags outside the door. Once someone dropped their fries in the common area and they lay their for weeks before anyone cleaned them up.

where to start? my car was broken into 2 times and my boyfriend's was broken into once. when i called the office to let them know their response was "call the police and maybe they will patrol here more". packages have been stolen off my doorstep. You can hear literally everything through the walls/floors of the building. Nobody picks up after their dogs outside so you can't walk anywhere without almost stepping in poop. trees are overgrown to the point you can't walk down some sidewalks. Communal areas like hallways are rarely cleaned and dumpsters/recycling bins are always overflowing. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

We had been planning to move in for a month. Bot only did they push back our move in date by 10 days, but two days before we were set to move in, they cancelled our application, and gave the apartment to someone else. So I'm left with all of my stuff packed and a trailer full of furniture in my parents garage and nowhere to go. I dont advise anyone trying to live here because if they are this unorganized before we even moved in, I'd hate to see how it is living there.

While we feel there's more to this situation than you've mentioned, we do apologize for the miscommunication regarding your application. We appreciate your interest in our community and wish you all the best moving forward. Thank you for allowing us to address your comments.
It’s not too bad the maintenance crew are great, however the office staff are very RUDE especially the older women they are VERY rude and you’d think they were paying your rent if you don’t like your job get a new one. When I first moved in there were roaches but they handled that immediately. The walls are very very very thin you can hear everything they are outdated they definitely need to start updating the apartments. Strong smells of odor lingers in the hallways. Parking sometimes suck, but I haven’t had many other issues.

Thank you for this feedback. We're happy to hear maintenance and pest control has been quick and effective! However, we apologize for any misunderstandings during our interactions in the office. Please know our goal is to always provide friendly and professional service and we will keep your comments in mind moving forward. Please do not let any miscommunication hinder you from coming to us with questions or concerns; we're always happy to help!
The office management has absolutely no customer service training whatsoever. They’re rude and entitled...like they’re the ones doing us a favor. The neighbors here will blame you for absolutely everything without having proof of you doing whatever. No one picks up their dogs poop so when I’m picking up mine, it doesn’t even matter...be aware that you’ll still be blamed for the poop that isn’t your dog’s. It’s just annoying. My sliding door’s lock doesn’t work and they have “fixed” it twice now. And now my front door’s handle is hardly holding on, which makes me think people can and will break in. Also, if you don’t like creepy crawlers, do not live here. There are spiders and centipedes everywhere.

We care about your comfort and well-being and hope after discussing these matters that you'll feel more at home again. As for the dog waste, we appreciate you doing your part and cleaning up after your pet. We understand how frustrating it can be when others do not follow this common courtesy and we will do our best to enforce this better. Thank you for allowing us to address these comments and we hope you'll reach out to us soon!
I just moved in. After leaving a disaster apartment situation that I'm still fighting, so this was kind of a quick decision. The building I live in is fairly quiet but the management can do a better job at it's maintenance. You are greeted into my building with a bug infestation right above the entry door. You'll understand as you through the door and look above you that bug control is not a number one priority as I see everytime I leave and return. Also, in my building there is peeling paint on the second landing that is very noticeable to where it seems as if the building went through an earthquake. I have to say that the paint and bugs had me second guessing my decision. My apartment was as I expected, A one bedroom domicile. The kitchen does seem like an afterthought, due to its size. I deal with it because it's just me here. I don't see how 2 people can do it. It does feel that for this being a 1 bedroom apartment there seem to be a lot more thought in the size of the dining area then the kitchen though. I was satisfied with everything else until I checked it the balcony. Before, I go into this I have to let you know that I have made the decision to NEVER use that balcony, as long as I stay here. The balcony seemed to be taken over by the family of bugs that greet at the entrance to the building, with spider webs covering the majority of the covering. This most have scared of maintenance because the paint is peeling all over the area. It's as if they refreshed the apartment after the last tenant and just said this is too much work when it comes to the patio. I completed the walkthrough paperwork that described all of these maladies, except the toilet issue, which began the first time I used the toilet, and promptly returned the page long descriptions of abnormalities the first week I moved in and to this day I have one thing that has been fixed which I haven't discussed here. I have communicated with management about this and I'm waiting for the issues to be resolved. I leave you with this, if you can find something better, I recommend it. Also, looks can be deceiving here.

Jackie, it's nice to hear how quiet your home and neighbors are, but we're disappointed to learn that pests and maintenance are hindering your comfort. We would be happy to further discuss these concerns and put you on our pest control schedule, as well as further discuss any items in your home you feel need extra attention. Please reach out to us at your earliest convenience. Your comfort is important to us and we hope to hear from you soon! Thank you.
The apartments are perfectly fine for what you’re paying. Everything is pretty cheap inside and breaks easily but the maintenance crew is great. They show up the next day and fix everything right away. The staff on the other hand is the worst I’ve ever dealt with out of any leasing company I’ve rented from in the past (I’ve used many different ones). Not only are they extremely unhelpful, but they are also rude and have horrible customer services skills. They treat you like they’re doing you a favor by letting you rent from them. If you’re a few days late on your rent, they send you eviction papers and charge you almost $200 for the lawyer to draft them up. I’ve even had them block my email because they didn’t want to help. They frequently change around the different methods of payment they will accept; which is designed to make your life harder. They lack competent management and I would never recommend this place to anyone ever again (I made that mistake in the past). Corrections officers treat their prisoners better. Good luck if you pick this place!
Property Manager at Trappers Cove Apartments, Responded To This Review
Justin, while we're happy to hear our maintenance team has been so helpful, we're sorry to hear about the frustrations you've had with our online payments and late fees. While we do have a short grace period, we do state in our lease agreements that any late payments will be met with a fee. This is standard practice. As for our accepted payment methods, we always notify our residents ahead of time if anything changes, but apologize if your notice was missed. We truly want you to enjoy your home and come to us with questions or concerns, but we cannot be flexible with missed payments. We thank you for your understanding and again, please do not hesitate to come to us with questions or concerns - we're always happy to help! Thank you.
Dont live here unless you want to live with spiders. Had orkin come out and spray 3 times and i still have a spider problem. The rooms are also very dark and depressing. The office staff are rude. When i moved in there was a strangers hair stuck to my bathroom ceiling
The apartments aren’t that bad other than bad drains and thin walls. The management is ridiculous. When I first moved in they screwed up my paperwork and made me repay over $100. Then they took 8 months to credit me back. Several times claiming that they didn’t owe me anything until I had to show them the paperwork again. My car was broken into almost 10 times and they didn’t even bat an eye. Some of them are just rude and don’t care about the tenants. The matainence guys are great and very helpful. Not worth the trouble though. Cons out weigh the pros.
Property Manager at Trappers Cove Apartments, Responded To This Review
While it's great to hear you've had terrific interactions with our maintenance team, we apologize for any confusion with your paperwork. We do want to emphasize that we care deeply about the comfort of our residents and hope if you ever need assistance with any requests or questions, you won't hesitate to stop by our office. Thank you for the feedback.
10/10 would not recommend. Stay as far away as possible, actually go live next door at college town. Nobody here is friendly, neighbors, employees, etc. I’ve complained to the leasing office multiple times about the neighbor below us smoking weed and nothing has been done. I can’t keep my windows open without my apartment filling with smoke so I’ve had to keep my air conditioning on, which has been running up my electric bill. This doesn’t even fix the problem because I can still smell it with the air on. They charge way too much for crappy internet, worst I’ve ever had. If you like geese then this is the place for you. They are everywhere. They smell the place up and there is crap everywhere, so much so you can’t use the side walks. My best advice is to stay away from here. They just need to tear it down and start over.
My fiancé and I were originally promised a Madrid style apartment with a determined move-in date. I get a call about 3 weeks before saying that that style isn't available and that they can't move us in on the day we were originally told. The staff was not considerate while dealing with this at all and practically blamed me for assuming that the apartment was ours even though we were told we were all set. If you want to live somewhere that says one thing and doesn't follow through, this is the place to go.
I like my apartment, but i get injerred as a result of accident. i lived in the 3rd floor and i feel it is difficult to go to my apartment. i have some disabilities and i need help. i wish i can be close to gym or fitness ropm and live in the first floor or in townhouse. i am phd student and i am married and have one child
I came to Lansing on a wing and a prayer. Applying for Grad School and working full time I decided to move to Lansing where I could better my chances of work and school. My apartment complex was very helpful in getting me in to sign my lease, helped me find resources to make my transition easy and the apartments are great. Clean, safe area, and the staff is very friendly and willing to help.
These are very clean, carpeted apartments in a very quite scenic settings which are reasonably priced (well below on campus facilities). They have all basic amenities like on site laundry, pool ,and a playground and a gym.The apartments are well connected with campus by MSU bus services. Leases are flexible from 6 month to one year. Excellent maintenance of lawns and trees. Overall, an excellent stay and nice experience !
I like living here. Its very quiet and I am very comfortable.
My apartment is liveable, yet pretty average in features and style. It's located in a well kept, clean complex, in a decent area of town. The building is not new, and could use updates, but everything is operational. Rates are on par with other complexes in the area.
Apartments are a little old, but it's a decent place to stay for a year. Nice neighborhood to walk around. Free water, gas, and heat is a plus.
It's spacious for a 1 bedroom with relatively cheap rent. Things break easily though, my shower rod broke before I even used it while I was sleeping. Some of the office workers can be a bit rude. I'm allergic to dogs and they were determined to bring a dog in my apartment to sniff for roaches. Then they messed up my bed inspecting for bed bugs. Mind you, I'm a neat freak and you can smell the clean in my apartment. Plus there were no bugs and I never received an apology for the mess they made. Also, never ever be late with rent...EVER!!! They took forever to take my rent out of my account once and I had no clue, until they sent a letter from a lawyer a week later. Literally a week late because of a blunder they made and now I had to pay an additional 200 dollars in attorney fees. You really do get what you pay for. Also never ever pull the blinds, they will break. Don't open the patio door either, mine has not broken, but I've seen at least 5 of my neighbors with broken patio doors. The walls are pretty thin, I leave no clue what my upstairs neighbors do every night at 4 in the morning but I'm pretty sure it's bowling....but I live for the cheap rent, so hey whatever.
Trappers Cove Apartments has been a refreshing return for this long time home owner. The location is unbeatable; close to MSU, highways and downtown Lansing makes this complex more attractive. The quality of the apartments, pool, landscaping, etc.. has made this home for me, which I never thought could be obtained living in an apartment complex. Job Well Done!
I loved everything about College Towne Apartments! The people are very friendly, the front office connects with every single person that steps through their door in a very professional and friendly way and on top of that the actual apartments are very spacious and the closest thing that home feeling!
Optimal for students with families Drawbacks: slow coaxial cable and DSL Internet, noise complaints are common due to wood floors and walls, probably will not get your $200-$300 deposit back
