Property Ratings at Village West
Poorly managed. They couldn't meet the terms of the original lease, so they attempted to sweep it under the rug and created a new lease. Smoking on this non-smoking property, is consistent. They pool remained closed 2 months after it should open because they failed to maintain it. So many additional fees added for "benefits" whether these perks are of interest to the tenant or not. Additional fees will be added later without updating leases. Pet excrement is all over the property.
The apartment was purchased by a new corporation that nickels and dimes its tenants. There’s a reason there are so many open apartments here!
The only perk about this place is that the “esthetic” of our apartment, but it’s just not worth the nice paint scheme and granite counters. We are currently on the end of day 6 of having no A/C in our apartment. It has been minimum of 94 degrees and high humidity this week and there is no urgency for the situation. No one will provide us with any updates on when the situation will be fixed and maintenance apparently has nothing to do with the leasing office so they do not communicate with each other to help their residents keep updated.Only after we had a meltdown in the nicely air conditioned leasing office did they provide options to help us out. But hey they are here in under 5 minutes if you lock yourself out so they can charge you $50 to simply let you in. They definitely got urgency on that “service”. We cannot get out of here soon enough.
I moved here a little over a year ago. At first it may look like a nice place to live but you will quickly find out this place is not worth the money. Things are breaking or not working and management shows they do not care about the residents.
My sister and I moved here and since we’ve lived here our neighbors are loud and disrespectful after 9pm almost every night . I have emailed the leasing office and all they did was suggest a meeting between myself and my neighbor because they are lazy and refuse to handle the situation this place is the worse .
Since moving in July (it is now November as I write this), we have had consistent issues with this complex. The first few months we have had issues with maintenance being lazy, the staff is impossible to get a hold of unless you're giving them money, and the move-in process was terrible. In October we received TWO death threats directed at our dog, nothing was done. A police report was filed against one of the residents who physically harmed our dog (as recommended by VW staff). After the second threat, it was suggested that we look into transferring into a ground floor unit, to get immediate access to the outdoors and to avoid bumping into these people in the hallway. We, the victims, were told we'd have to pay $1400 transfer fees, on top of re-signing a NEW 12 month lease (essentially extending our lease 6 months). We believe that with or without moving units, something needs to be done and the staff barely gives this issue the time of day. Safe to say we will not be resigning our lease in July. My suggestion? Look elsewhere.
The apartments look nice and for the most part are, however the place has fallen from when I first moved here. Management is different and it shows. They are snobby, rude, and very unprofessional. The inside of the hallways are filthy and stained. Oder problems and the pond should be kept up. For what you'll pay and how you'll get treated is baffling. They are money hungry more than anything and will charge you for the littlest things.
Village West Luxury Apartments in Kansas City, Kansas by the Legend's are terrific. They come with new appliances, even a full-size washer and dryer. The Clubhouse is very nice. If you want a cup of coffee, hot tea, or hot chocolate, residents can go to the clubhouse and get a cup. Does not cost anything. I like the Hot Chocolate & Milk Froth. The staff is very nice.
I almost let the bad reviews scare me off! I am so glad I didn't. The apartment complex is close to tons of great stuff and not far from downtown or Overland Park. The apartment itself is very nice as is the outdoor area. I moved from out of state without ever seeing anything in person and the leasing staff was great! Any question or concern I had was always answered promptly. Upon moving in any issues I found with the apartment were fixed the next day without me even having to ask when I could have The few issues fixed. I would recommend village west for sure!
One must learn to rate an apartment community fairly and based on rules and regulations that are set forth that the management has no control over. I am in the industry myself, and no I do not work for JVM. I moved to their property due to the fact I knew wonderful people that worked for the company and I didn't want to live on-site at the property I manage. I will start off by saying, I have been very pleased with my experience here at Village West. The staff is amazing, the are always willing to make a good laugh of anything. Any little issues that we have come across, they have dealt with an accordance to times set forth. For those who loved the previous managers, let me start by saying that is great. Its always nice building that relationship with staffs. Transitioning staffs always get the blunt end of things. I will say, I did tour this property when the previous company was here. I wasn't impressed. I understand why all of you that loved the prior company, actually liked them. It's always nice walking into a place that only hires greeters. They had no idea how to run this place. Their company isn't out to manage. They are to build, develop, and fill buildings to sell for a profit. Just wait. The property next door will go through the same thing. I want to commend the staff at Village West for everything they do. They remember residents by their name, building they live in, and just remember small talk. They make this place home. I cannot say I hear my neighbors. I am in a very quiet building and couldn't ask for anything else. My neighbors are awesome and we all look out for each other. The clubhouse here is amazing and the fitness center and pool is like no other. I do wish it was a four-season pool, but I can wait until May to hit the water again. Keep up the great work!! I plan to call Village West my home for quite a while. Thanks for making it so enjoyable.
I have lived here for almost 2 years so I have been here for the initial management company, and now the present one. The initial one was very good...they were always available to help with pretty much anything, help community activities monthly, and were there for the residents. But now the new company came in and made living here horrible. They seem to be more concerned with whether the carpets in the hallways are clean than if their residents are happy. We have a crack above our patio door that I put a service request in for a month ago that still has not been fixed, whereas if I ever had a problem that I had to call in for with the old company it was fixed the next day. This new company doesn't do anything for the residents like monthly brunches or get togethers like the old one did, which was really nice because it not only gave you a chance to meet your neighbors, but the management as well. And the office is IMPOSSIBLE to get ahold of, and their door is always shut so that is very unwelcoming (and you don't know if they are in fact open or not). My boyfriend accidentally locked himself out and it took him 9 phone calls to finally get ahold of someone to let him in. Our lease is up for renewal the end of October and it's highly doubtful we will be re-signing it. My suggestion? Look elsewhere. I've heard the new apartments next to these are very nice and a lot better!
I've spent about 4 months here so far, so I'd like to think I've given myself time to think about this place. The apartments and lobby are squeaky clean because they're so new, and everything does look very nice. However, I've also run into some issues with this place that just boggle my mind, because they're such easy problems to solve. You pay for trash pickup, but if you're unlucky enough to get placed on the wrong side of the campus, you're "encouraged" by the staff to -drive- your garbage over to the only compactor on one corner of the campus. I could just as easily drive across the street and toss everything in Panda Express's dumpster for free if I could opt out. The staff, while they put on a smiling and cheerful face, have been pretty unhelpful. I've been lied to (Needed to print something before I moved everything in..."sorry we don't have printers"...). The printer is on the bookshelf in the back, by the way. They also show up around 8:30/9:00am on weekdays, but since office hours are strictly open at 10am, I was forced to call in work because I had to wait for something that took five minutes to complete. The most hilarious part of that was I was trying to hand them my rent payment via credit card since I didn't have my checkbook yet, and they refused to do anything until after 10am. I guess even receiving payment is put on hold if not convenient for them. They're promoting an online payment service so you can pay with credit cards instead of a check, but what they forgot to tell you in the introduction e-mail is that the site charges $35 each payment for "services". I think I'll stick with checks. They praise themselves on promoting a community within the complex, which is fine and dandy, but they host these events usually around 11am to 5pm on weekdays. If you have a job, how do you participate? Most of the staff seem to look out for what's convenient for them, at least in my experience. It soured my impression of this place immediately because they're reluctant to assist unless it also aids them in some way or they're forced to do it. I took this apartment solely because it had a great location, and even though the place looks great, I would be long gone if not tied down by my lease. I may try the apartment 10 steps down the road when I'm able. It's a carbon copy of here, but I would at least have a chance for something better.
There are a lot of attractions. Only 20 minutes from downtown KC. Very nice and quiet. Top floor is worth the extra money with higher ceilings. Staff is knowledgable and any maintenance concerned get addressed quickly. Definitely recommend. A
New, clean, and quiet... usually. I say usually because it's not the neighbors you should worry about, it's the fact that it's right next to a Nascar racetrack. It most times than not is pretty quiet, but during the work week I can sometimes hear them making their laps around the track. Also, when it's really windy, you can hear the wind blow pretty indiscreetly. Besides that, it's placed in a lovely little area. If you want to live close to the actual "city" part, like Westport and the Plaza, I'd consider somewhere else, but there's The Legends and a Walmart within walking distance... and a cute little bakery (Judi's Bakery) connected to the bank across the street. She makes some great little treats and espressos/lattes. You'll also find a lot of Cerner people here as one of their buildings is about 2 miles away. As far as the actual apartments go,they're gorgeous. They've all got granite countertops. Based off of availability, you have two color schemes to choose from. One's dark and one's light-based colors. Both are lovely. Rooms are carpeted and the central room is hardwood. Each apartment comes with a dishwasher, washer and dryer. Our rent is about $1,340/month for a two bedroom apartment. Utils are super affordable. Our electric is about $60/month and our water/sewer/trash bill is about $25-30/month.
I have moved into these apartments within the last two months in a two bedroom floor plan and absolutely love the place so far. Everyone in the leasing office is very friendly and helpful and the maintenance workers are also very helpful and respond to work orders within a day. The amenities (pool, gym, theater, etc.) are all very nice and well kept. I am very glad that I chose this place and I look forward to spending at least the next year here!
