Virginia Beach is a large city of nearly half a million people, perched on the Atlantic coast between Chesapeake Bay and the North Carolina state line. Supporting a thriving local economy of its own, Virginia Beach is also a popular home base for folks who work in neighboring Norfolk and beyond, largely thanks to the incredible array of things to do in your down time.
The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts attracts major national performers and Broadway musicals, as well as popular local and regional acts. Throughout the year, you can always catch live shows at Farm Bureau Live, the city's 20,000-seat outdoor concert amphitheater. During the summer, Atlantic Boulevard comes alive at night; family-friendly street performers line the street, and bands play at a number of stages set up on the beach, in parks, and on the boardwalk.

Property Ratings at Avondale
fantastic apartment complex! i moved into phase 2 recently and have had little to no complaints. guest parking can be hard to manage with little spaces but ive enjoyed the apartment layout and features and how quiet its been. i also dont worry about being out by myself at night because of how well lit it is. move here!
you can definitely smell the dump on certain days, apartment bedroom was small and poorly laid out, we could barley fit a king bed and dresser in the room, wifi constantly was out, washer stopped working and took 4 weeks to replace and they only gave us a $40 credit, PARKING IS TERRIBLE!! tiny driveway for one car and NO street parking you have to park so far so don’t even think about having people over
I’m convinced that some people come here to only air their grievances. Don’t believe everything you read here. My experience here has been nothing short of exemplary. I keep my apartment VERY CLEAN, thusly we have zero insect or rodent issues. Lived here for 2 years and it’s decidedly the best apartment community I’ve ever taken residence. The office team as well as the maintenance staff are very friendly and care about doing their best. They saw that all my maintenance requests were fulfilled in a very timely manner. The grounds are kept nice and we love our summers at the never-crowded pool. By far my most favorite part of this apartment is the 2-car garage. It’s been so nice having that space to refinish my furniture, detail our cars, and I even made a plant-potting station in there. 10/10 recommend this place!!
Place looks nice, the problems start when you move in. I generally dont complain but this palce is horrible. My wife and kid started to get sick after we moved in and couldn't figure out what it was. 3 months later we found mold in the appartment. I was difficult to deal with due to them changing mangers 3 times during this ordeal. long story short they didnt want to adress the issue. We had mice multiple times and bugs infestations. we rented this place due to the good reviews. this is the worse place I have ever rented. We had to move out early and pay for a place we couldn't even live in.
Where do I even begin? If internet is important to you, start looking elsewhere. There are only two options for internet, Telcom and Direct TV. You will have to sell both kidneys to afford Direct TV and Telcom is absolutely atrocious. Even the slowest package is expensive and when I say slow, I mean like molasses in January slow. If it rains more than 3 drops or the wind blows, go ahead and pull out a good book because you are not getting anywhere on the World Wide Web and you are just going to be staring at a pixelated mess on your TV. Do not even get me started on their customer service, lets just say you have a better chance of winning the MEGA MILLIONS than getting someone to answer your call...and then when someone does answer they are from the “overflow” call center and they cannot do anything for you except send message to Telcom that will never get a response. Look up their reviews for yourself. We initially chose Avondale because it was “dog friendly” and there was dog park. Just go ahead and count the dog park out. The grass seldom gets mowed in it, no one picks up after their dog and you are have to wear a full body suit in order to survive the mosquitos. “Dog friendly” is a long shot. If you have a dog and it barks once, you will get a noise complaint. Literally, every person we knew with a dog, had a complaint. Annnnnddddd while we are on the topic of dogs, let’s talk about how a resident ran a stop sign while on his phone and almost hit my wife, but instead hit my dog. The police are not able to do anything about it because it is private property so we contacted the leasing office with a description of the driver, the car and the license plate AND the apartment they lived in. While they seemed very concerned at first, they neglected to do ANYTHING about it. The maintenance people are nice enough, but unless it is an emergency, it is not going to get fixed in a timely manner. Also beware of the carpet, you will probably step on at 6 tac nails because everything is held together with bubblegum and toothpicks. The pool in always jammed packed with kids and the one time we did go, I was completely gross out with how dirty the water was. You could have made a wig with the amount of hair in there. While we are in the subject of kids, it’s a mad house. In the evening there are so many unsupervised kids running around causing an absolute ruckus. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to live.
Arrived to view a 2 bedroom apartment at 4:30pm. No representatives inside the office and we waited for about 15 minutes. When they arrived, the representatives did not introduce themselves at all. Handed us a packet and walked off. One came back and asked us what we wanted to view. She drove us there and we walked around ourselves. No explanation of the apartment and amenities at all. We favored this location but the representatives made it obvious they were ready to go home.
We have lived here for almost four years now. I have never seen a place so badly managed in my life. If Gordon Ramsay ever made a show called “Apartment Disasters” this would be this place would be the first episode. The only reasonable manager left to go manage a newer set of apartments and I don’t blame her. They never respond to anything and they are always late on lease agreements. They told us they would give them out by the new year. We received ours January 26th.. we just bought a new house and are ecstatic to be moving out. Everyone else has explained their problems with Telecomm so I’ll cover the maintenance disaster.. We’ve had some decent experiences, but most are terrible. We’ve had them tell us they were going to show up on a certain date or the following date and they never did! They end up showing up on a random date the following week.. this Repair was on the kitchen sink, which THEY INSTALLED BACKWARDS. We had the head of maintenance come in and fix the problem a week later. All he did was take the little sticker for hot and cold and flip it around. He even said that the whole thing was backwards. Another thing about the maintenance: they think they have the right-a-way when it comes to driving in the complex in their dinky little golf carts. They fly around the corners at full speed and blow through the stop signs, I’ve almost hit three of them since I moved in here. Last thing.. they are planning on building another set of apartments on the dump side of the fence and will be tearing up the packed trash which all of you planning to live here will smell. It already smells atrocious, just be ready for that to start. I hope all of you enjoy your stay here, we did not one bit. Not even the
I will start by saying my initial interactions with the staff was okay, not great but "okay". They offered to waive the application fee if I left them a good review (which I did). My initial review was just general things such as staff friendliness etc. because obviously I had not lived there yet, nor had I even visited the property. All of my interactions were online. Fast forward a month or so, and it was time to sign the lease. I had just flown in from overseas and they literally didn't even offer to show me around the property, I had to ask! They expected me to just sign away. Well to make a long story short we decided NOT to rent there because my rent ended up being almost $300 higher than I was initially told. Which for barely 750 sq ft was crazy! They never gave back by security deposit, which in my opinion should have been but again I didn't press the issue. Although they should have refunded every dollar I paid them for giving me false information. So fast forward a month I am living somewhere else and I get a bill for electric from the property that I NEVER lived at. I called and Gabby tells me that there's nothing I can do to dispute charges because apparently if Maintenance had to go in the apartment then electric was used prior to dominion coming to cut it off! So on top of these incompetent and rude staff members they are also thieves. Stole my security deposit and now I have to pay for electric I never used! Military stay far away from this place please! I plan to take this to corporate because I have had enough with these people and I don't even live there! Beyond disappointed.
I've been a resident at Avondale Apts. 2 1/2 years. This place is quiet, clean, and roomy. Very comfortable indoor atmosphere. We have the three bedroom Apartment, upstairs. Everyone who works in this complex are genuinely friendly, from the wonderful people who work in the office, to the awesome people who do the maintenance. The location is idea for traveling around the Hampton Roads Loop. Interstate is only minutes away, and shopping for groceries, Malls, and schools are in close proximity. I love the area.
This place looks nice but the measurements are incorrect. The measure wall to wall which doesn't count the cut off from the stairs. Also, they don't help military that came back from deployment to get back his deposit. That is so shame! I make sure everyone knows about the unethical business they do.
Avondale is pretty expensive for the area. They're located right next to a landfill. Soon as we moved in we had issues with termites. It's been 3 months and they've exterminated several times to no avail. Our choices were limited for cable and internet providers as well. We couldn't get cox or any dish networks. And our internet connection was ridiculously slow. You definitely couldn't have someone on Netflix & another playing online games. On the plus side, the apartments are a nice size and we liked the attached garage.
These apartments are fantastic. The large floor plans each come with a garage, and are designed to limit noise interference from neighbors. We have a pool, entertainment area and gym. The staff is extremely friendly and responsive. They are also just blocks away from a shopping center and city park.
By far one of the best apartment in Virginia beach. Very safe. The complex is very clean and well kept. The staff always go above and beyond to make sure residents are happy and things are taken care of. Very good place to raise kids
It's five minutes away from I-64 & quick access to Neighborhood Walmart, Food Lion, Shell gas station, McDonald's and other local food chains such as Pollard's--- literally right outside the complex. The apartments are really nice and come with a garage. The master bedroom comes with a garden tub! Winning! It comes with a wine rack and the staff gave us a complimentary bottle of wine with cheese and crackers when we signed the lease. Another plus for us is that we can use our grill at the house, and we have a spout to wash our cars on the weekend. I've dealt with all the leading agents and the maintenance staff and they are all truly nice and respectable people. We had a problem with our a/c during the summertime and it was handled effectively. They were available after the hours of operation, quick and efficient. The staff is also very involved with the tenants and families of the community. Once a month there is some sort the of gathering in the clubhouse. The pool is a nice area and it is well maintained. I use the gym 3 times a week; it's small but has adequate equipment for a solid workout. The gym also has a play area for children, which makes up for the lack of space.
It feels like country living. The people are nice, the apartments are spacious, the grounds are maintained, and the staff are always available to assist. You have shopping areas close by and restaurants for those nights you don't feel like cooking! I would recommend Avondale Apartments to anyone. I really love it here!
I've lived here for almost 3 years & could not ask for a more perfect place to raise my kids! The staff is professional & welcoming & quick to fix any issues I have with my apartment. The neighborhood is quiet & well kept. The amenities are great-- I love the gym & my kids love the pool. My apartment is modern & spacious & has great storage space included. The location is perfect-- 5 minutes from the interstate & many stores & restaurants within 10 minutes of home. Having my own attached private garage gives me added security knowing that my vehicle is protected. I couldn't ask for anything more.
Home is a place where one feels better than any other corner of the planet and that is not because we are emotionally attached to it but honestly because you don't have your clients and bosses around. I have always been very specific about choosing a home because no matter where I spend my day, I want to peacefully end it with a safe walk after dinner through the pleasant neighbourhood. However, I have been lazy enough to have not started that post dinner walk yet in life despite having such favourable conditions here in The Avondale. But thanks to avondale for giving me an alternative to keep myself fit, the Gym is what i'm talking about and yes, I have only been talking about it as my tummy kept protruding out. Such well equipped and maintained it is. The staff is so friendly. The avondale is so crime free and safe that we sometimes wonder why people in other communities lock their houses before going to sleep at night. For that matter, cars as well. It is so clean and neatly maintained that many people living in the avondale think that bugs are extinct in the US and may be now found only in the Amazon forests. Amusingly last week a resident called the house keeping team in panic when he saw a Volkswagen beetle parked in the neighbourhood. The swimming pool in the avondale allows us to feel like the tigers during summer when we remain submerged in the pool for hours. Some people feel like hippos too. The groceries are so easily available as we have Walmart and food lion just a walk away.Walgreens pharmacy is a blink away. To add we also have Personal garage and great telecom service in here which is very relaxing. They are like independent houses. If you think I'm exaggerating things about avondale, you definitely need to pay one visit to this place and not look for me. Jokes apart, Such a lovely home Avondale is ! one suggestion i would like to add to avondale people, if they could add a small kids play area outdoors and few benches here and there to sit, then this would be the best place in town.
We have been living in our beautiful home for over three years now. This is where we welcomed the apple of our eyes, our daughter two years ago. As a young couple who were expecting our first child we wanted to live in a community which would be safe, peaceful, had great amenities and was maintained well throughout the year. In Avondale, we found the complete package. Not only have we found all that we ever hoped for in the community we lived in, the support staff at Avondale have made our lives here extremely easy with their pleasant personalities and spirit of service. The location is great, we have the privacy we need and have the convenience of some great shopping all within a few minutes’ drive. The amenities include an extremely, well maintained swimming pool, a gym, great landscaping throughout the community and private driveway, Walgreens, food lion, wal-mart are all in walkable distance. They always organize get togethers every now and then at the pool and leasing office with fun activities for adults and kids. Just a few of the many perks of living at Avondale. Come join the neighborhood, you will love it here just like we do.
I relocated to the Virginia Beach area about a year ago. I had searched for many apartments, but it wasn't until I visited the beautiful grounds of Avondale at Kempsville for the first time that I felt a sense of being home. The apartments are very spacious with amenties to include a garage & fireplace which facilitated a much easier transition from a five bedroom house where I had those same things. I am a single mother so safety was an issue, but the neighborhood has made us feel safe and a part of a "family". Safety, serenity and a place that feels like home; what more can you ask for. I love it here!
I have lived at Avondale for over three years now and plan to stay for another, it is centrally located in the heart of Virginia beach five minutes from interstate 64 and 10 min from Norfolk and airport. The neighborhood is safe and secure there are four unique floor plans all great designs modern and affordable with great amenities. The club house offers a great pool and grill with a small gym as well. All units offer a attached garage which is added comfort. The office and maintenance staff are terrific and have planned social functions for residents. If you are looking for a place in Virginia Beach with great neighbors check out the property website and come by and walk through a unit you will be happy you did.
This community was an extremely beautiful, well kept and peaceful community. The building are neatly maintained and services are regularly performed. The office staff was extremely accommodating and friendly also. It could not be better located and was amidst a lot of shopping, restaurants, transportation and schools. It offered amenities that most communities did not.I like this place so much. Im living here from past 5 years and still loving it.
Pleasant, private and perfect are just a few adjectives to describe Avondale apartments. I have only lived in the neighborhood for five months and I am absolutely pleased with my choice. Avondale apartments has the luxury of "home" living and more. From the impeccably manicured lawns to the most exceptional staff, you will definitely be impressed. The neighborhood is very quiet. I work days and nights and no matter what time of day it is, it is always peaceful. The garage is an added bonus and not the run-of-the-mill amenities. There is plenty of parking for your guess if you like to entertain. As well as access to the common area, which by the way is also well maintained. Everyone who has visited is impressed with the grounds, the amenities and the spacious apartment. The apartments are located in a central area, so you are only a few miles from great restaurants and shopping. Avondale is by far the best apartment I have lived in.
I came across the Avondale Community when I moved back to the area to take care of my mom who was ill and had stays at the local hospital. I was immediately greeted and connected with the office staff and after the walk-thru and application process I became a resident. The office staff went out of their way to make sure my daughter and I got moved in without a problem, because I was at the hospital with my mom. They were attentive, caring and still just getting to know me. I felt at home and still do 3 years later. Not only with me but my neighbors can you tell they address every concerns and follow-up for resolution. A tight nit community: Very clean, quite and convenient and with a garage(yes). Residents are respectful because everyone works different shifts and the community is kid and animal friendly. Triple benefits is if you have a car you really don't need it everything is withing walking distance: schools, market, malls, eateries, churches, movies, interstate: you save gas, you get to exercise and meet people and take in the beautiful scenery.
Avondale is an awesome place to live. 5 mins from 64 and 5 mins from Greenbrier mall, it is that close to everything you need in the kempsville/greenbrier area. The staff is really friendly and always willing to answer all of your questions and address all of your concerns. The biggest selling point for me on this apartment was the attached garage that comes for free with all units. 1-3 bedrooms all get one and the bigger the apartment, the bigger the garage. The second big selling point for me was the washer and dryer in unit. This is a very rare accommodation to find and an exceptional one to have. Whats better than being able to do your own laundry in your own apartment? A laundromat? I don't think so. The community aspect is awesome too. The complex hosts a couple of events every month to make the complex feel more like a community so you can get to know your neighbors next to you and on the other side of the complex. Its a quiet area and if you have to get up early to commute for work, you are set up for success here. I'm up early every day and have no problems with noise at night. Overall, Avondale is a great place to live. It has easy access to 64, Indian River, Kempsville, and Volvo. I am extremely satisfied with my choice in moving here.
This place is fantastic from the upkeep of the neighborhood to the excellent maintenance staff this is definitely the nicest place for what you pay for. I live in Marco unit and having the garage attached to our unit is great a lot better than having a garage across a complex like most places and the storage you can fit in the garage is way better then average. The apartment itself also have nice high ceilings and a perfect layout for me and my wife. I absolutely love this place and glad to have made this place my home for me and my family.
Avondale is conveniently located near Greenbriar mall. There is many restaurants located a short walking distance away. There's a bar and supermarket across the street. There is a nice Walgreen's in the parking lot. The apartments are very nice with many floor plans. I've lived here for two years and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
I have a 1 bedroom on the 1st floor. It is the perfect size..Plenty of closet space. I feel that because the common space is kept clean by the staff, it inspires the other tenants to do the same. I find the staff to be pleasant, courteous and so very helpful. I am very happy I close to live here.
I love my apartment, because of the location and that it's very quiet. The garage is the icing on the cake. The personnel are very friendly and approachable.
I love living at Avondale - the office staff are nice and very responsive; you can tell they really care (and the office manager is wonderful!). My wife and I have pets and kids, we are all very well satisfied with our apartment, our neighbors and the community. It's well kept and a great value with the garage and size of the apartment. I do agree with all the other reviewers commentary on Telcom (lackluster service, at best 5Mbps even if you pay $87 per month for 25Mbps); they do try really hard. But, given my experience with other rental situations, I couldn't be more pleased with my place at Avondale regardless of the telcom issues.
Living in Avondale apartments is the best choice made by my wife for my family to stay. I am US Navy and currently stationed overseas in Japan and my stress level has gone down considerably. A lot of other apartments just do not offer the same environment. The closets and rooms within the apartments are spacious, maintenance are always ready to assist, the grounds outside is always clean and great schools in the area. In comparison with my old apartment in Norfolk where there was random violence in the area, leasing office staff was rude, and much needed repairs was very slow and paid near the same amount. The difference in between the apartments are like night and day. Avondale would be a good choice to live if you are looking for an apartment.
These are very nice apartments! Comfortable, spacious, and very well kept. I've told quite a few people how the management team is so very helpful. I highly recommend living here!
Avondale apartments is a quite, we'll kept clean comunity that i feel is a great place to raise a family. The Management/office staff and maintenance personnel are very professional and helpful. It is also a dog friendly community, I would recommend avondale apartments to anyone.
I love Avondale apartments!!! The garage is spacious and a perfect added addition. The price range is awesome for the space you get, I honestly have more than enough room. For those like me who like to eat out often you are within close driving distance to fast food and also to grocery stores. The neighborhood is quiet and the internet although when I first moved in wasnt all that great, they ugraded and it works like a charm now. I WOULD recommend this to anyone looking for a nice affordable place with a garage.
Very quiet place. The office staff and maintenance staff are great/nice. Would love to buy my apartment, if I had the option.
Avondale is located in a great central location with easy interstate access. The Avondale office staff are super friendly and often offer great social events for tenants in the club house. Maintenance staff respond promptly to your needs, and are efficient. The only reason I am giving the complex a 4 star vs 5 is because of the parking. Visitor parking spaces are VERY limited. This becomes problematic when you have more than 1-2 guests over. If you work an over night shift , ask for a unit in the front of the complex as the back of the development is right over the fence of a never ending construction project. Trucks going back and forth and the sound of dump trucks are heard Mon- Sat 6:30AM until 3PM.
I love this place. Definitely one of the best apartments I've ever lived in, we did have a slight issue when we first moved in, but that is long gone now.
I've lived at Avondale for almost three years and I absolutely love it. The town homes are beautiful and the grounds are always kept immaculate making it a lovely quiet place to live. The maintenance staff is great and if I ever have a service related issue it is taken care of very quickly!! Avondale cares about their community!
March of this year, I started my search for a new apartment, I was fed up with my previous lease and although I had just signed the renewal of my lease December prior, I was anxious for a nicer living arrangement and I wanted to know I was getting what I was paying for. I quickly paid the $2000 to buy out of my lease, and it was honestly the best decision I've ever made. Kayla, the property manager has worked with me every step of the way and made my move & transition smooth and easy. The past 4 months have been stress free and comfortable. Pamela and the other office staff are prompt and helpful. My 2 bedroom apartment has exceeded my expectations of what an "apartment" has and is. Having my washer and dryer accessible at anytime has been more than convienent. I have to be truthful and say I have not used my front door or house key ONCE, my garage door accommodates all of my needs whether it's carrying in groceries or making sure I'm not getting wet in the rain. I love it. The kitchen space is exactly what I was looking for. Let's just say my needs have been met and I'm looking forward to spending years here at Avondale.
My wife and I moved in February 2015 and we love the place. The front desk is very organized and helpful when moving in as well as after. The maintenance personnel, especially Terry, are super fast with fixing anything and professional about their job. We couldn't have picked a better complex in Hampton roads.
I just moved from Florida to here and right away I felt welcomed. They got me accustomed to the area and they talked to me like I was already their best friend. The apartments are in amazing condition. I absolutely love my apartment. It's amazingly clean and such a beautiful layout. For how stunning the apartments are, the rent is very well priced. The cream of the crop of apartments! Avondale is so close to many things! Malls, beaches, naval stations, grocery stores, Walgreens !Everything you need right near by. I'm so happy I decided to move to Avondale. It really is a wonderful experience living here:)
The staff is very nice, and I really enjoy our apartment. It would be 5 stars if they gave us more than one option for internet.
We have been in our apartment for almost a year now and absolutely love it, we plan to extend our lease for another year! The office and maintenance staff are always very friendly and attentive. The apartments, amenities, and landscaping are kept very clean and well maintained. Avondale is a beautiful and quiet neighborhood, close to shopping and interstates. I have read in other reviews that some residents have had issues with the Telecom services, but we have no problems. Definitely come by and take a tour if you are looking for a quality apartment and excellent service. -Matt & Sara
Excellent apartment community, Great location, beautifully updated apartments and excellent customer service from the leasing office is why I chose to move in. I have thoroughly enjoyed living here for nearly 2.5 years. My apartment was in excellent condition on move in day. For any maintenance issue the staff responded very promptly and the issue is resolved quickly. Highly recommend this apartment community.
This apartment complex has everything anyone could ever want or need. Each apartment has its own laundry, garage and tons of closet space. There is also plenty of living space. Outside is kept beautiful as well, from the landscape to the salt water pool, lounge chairs and bbq areas. This is my first apartment and it will be very difficult to find another place that will match how amazing this apartment is.
I moved to Avondale in 2012 after deciding to downsize! I was immediately treated to hospitality, warmth, & friendly leasing agents! My initial contact was so wonderful that I received a bottle of wine as part of a welcome package to all new tenants! The amenities are state of the art… From the clubhouse to the pool, gym, and ample space in the units with huge walk-in closets. They are always having different events for the tenants such as luau nights, pool parties to welcome the summer, and Christmas parties with gifts for everyone. If you decide to move to these apartments you definitely will not regret it. I am still here three years later and I love it.
The manager of the property is the best manager I have met. She is accommodating she listens and she cares about the residents of Avondale. The layout is great lots of space and storage compared to most apartments. And I would refer anyone to live there.
Garage with every unit it is perfect condo living with apartment price. Work out and pool area are great especially with look in area for kids while you work out.
I have lived in these apartments since 2012 and I can honestly say it has been the best experience ever. The staff is warm, friendly, and dependable. From the huge walk-in closets to the garages with every unit at no extra charge, this apartment complex is one to be envied throughout Virginia Beach. The amenities are state of the art from the gym, to pool, and clubhouse. Tenant events such as pool parties, cookouts, Christmas parties & more make Avondale the family community it promises to be!!
I moved in about march this year love the staff and my place is awesome will be here for awhile living.
