If the idea of living in New York City appeals to you but you want a slightly less crowded place to call home, a place where far fewer tourists tend to venture, then Staten Island might be for you. Most residents rely on the Staten Island Ferry to get to lower Manhattan, especially since many New Yorkers don’t own cars. However, if you’re planning to drive, you can also reach Staten Island from Brooklyn over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.
While Staten Island doesn’t contain the large number of landmarks you’ll find in Manhattan, there are a few terrific destinations to explore, such as Conference House Park. This park contains four historic buildings dating back to the late 1600s. The Conference House was the site of an unsuccessful Revolutionary War peace conference, held in 1776. The park also contains playgrounds, a canoe launch, and dog-friendly areas. In the summer, residents head to the beautiful beaches and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk.

Property Ratings at 1000 Targee St
It is located in a great neighborhood right below Todt Hill (the most expensive neighborhood in S.I). The building is very well kept and clean. Terminator service for free every few weeks or so.Free parking right infront for the building tenants. Apartments are recently renovated & each floor has its own washing/drying machines. Bathroom and kitchens are only 2-3 years old because of recent renovations. Closets are fairly sized but there's many of them throughout the apartment. Right next to the building there are 2 exceptional schools. One is an elementary school the other is pre-k until the 8th grade. S74/S76 buses right infront of the back of the building to get to the ferry. Train station, Grasmere is only a 15minute walk away. Other buses, S53/S93 & express buses, are at least a 5 minute walk away.
I've lived in this apartment a little over 3 years and in this time I have been flooded out 3 times. None of these instances have ever occurred due to any fault of my own. My grievance with management has been about replacing my damaged property! One time is fine, I'm on the hook for that, I should have renter's insurance yada yada yada, but 3 times!!! Something's gotta give. But recently, a new management team has taken over the building and they seem to be a bit more understanding and welcome to negotiations. I know water is the nemesis to this buiding but other than that there aren't any major issues that aren't being fixed or scheduled to being fixed. There aren't any critters or roaches, THANK GOODNESS! You may get crickets or centipedes here and there but nothing a little raid can't get rid of. The neighborhood is wonderfully quiet and the building is next door to one of the best schools on the island. There is a lot of traffic during drop off and pickup hours for school and people will use the building's private parking lot to do so. There is a large parking lot and plenty of street parking as well, but no assigned spaces. The location is 5 minutes from the Verrazano (driving of course) but near several modes of transportation. There are some supermarkets (MET and CTown) close by, 10-15 minute walking if you're in the mood to do so. You're also very close to Hylan Boulevard which gives you access to many different stores and eating options. Overall its an okay building with high rent, but in a great area for someone with kids or who has to commute out of the borough for any reason. The neighbors are quiet and friendly too.
