Perched on the edge of the Intracoastal Waterway, Hypoluxo is a charming community steeped in regional lore and history. The town’s biggest claim to fame is its connection to the barefoot mailmen of the late 19th century, postal workers who walked the sixty miles between Hypoluxo and Miami to carry letters before the railroad extended all the way down the peninsula.
Today, the community enjoys a considerably more modern appearance, but maintains the quaint atmosphere of a laid-back coastal village. Boating is a major local pastime, with marinas and charter services operating on the town’s docks. Just north of town, a cluster of shops and restaurants makes it easy to pick up groceries or grab a quick bite to eat, and the Boynton Beach mall is just a short drive inland. Of course, the biggest attraction for both visitors and locals is the nearby beach, easily accessible anytime from the Ocean Avenue Bridge.
