Old Town sits across from Washington DC, along the Potomac River in Alexandria. Founded in 1749, the old charm of the neighborhood lives on in converted Colonial-era buildings which now house modern conveniences. Along Old Town’s cobblestone streets, you’ll discover an array of independent boutiques, artisan shops, wine bars, and farm-to-fork restaurants.
The farmers market in Market Square is your place for fresh cut flowers, hand-dipped candles, and made-from-scratch baked goods. The plaza is more than 250 years old - George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate was a regular vendor back in the day!
King Street is not only dotted with eateries and shops, but also nightlife and live jazz! The iconic Gadsby’s Tavern on North Royal Street fed many early presidents and continues to run as a restaurant - but also as a museum! King Street and Waterfront Parks provide residents recreational and boating opportunities along the river.

Property Ratings at 1111 Belle Pre
Basic building functions are often broken (Elevators, gym equipment, etc.). Marketing materials show building when it was new (10 years ago). You will be billed for shared electricity in common spaces.
I liked living here, but giving two stars because they really screw you when it's time to renew your lease or move out. Management definitely cares more about money than their residents.
As others have indicated, the fire alarms are CONSTANTLY going off. Would highly suggest finding a safer complex to live in, as the alarm system is clearly faulty. Also, they recently reduced hours for the amenities (the gym is supposed to be 24 hours, now it’s 12). They state this is for “cleaning” but the only time I have seen cleaning staff in the gym is while I have been using it.
Apartment building is beautiful, in a convenient spot of town and management staff is great, but I wish I could move out now. They raise rent 7% YoY, Ridiculous amount of mold in the water/ vents and terrible ventilation throughout the building. Trash chutes are always broken and garbage piles up, fire alarms go off in the middle of the night and aren't turned off for 45min - 3 hours in extreme cases (regularly occurs). Look elsewhere - there are so many options in Old Town now that do not have these issues!
What a shame. It's a great building: the location is convenient, the pool is welcoming, and the front staff is friendly. I lived here for over a year and thought "wow, I finally found a management company that doesn't take advantage of tenants for a quick buck." But: 1 month before my lease was up, they cancelled my auto-debit payment system, did not inform me, and then proceeded to tack on a $400 late fee to my final month's bill, after my (quietly cancelled) auto-debit payment system failed to process. It's a shady way to squeeze some money from outgoing tenants, and were it not for that, I would be open to moving into another Equity building in the future.
My husband and I are in the process of moving out of state into the DMV area. We had a very short time to choose a place, and I did as much research as I could online, email, phone, etc. before setting up appointments and visiting to find our new home. I visited approximately eight different properties and was left completely hopeless as nothing was as advertised. I understand you're going to show it a little nicer on their website, but nothing was as advertised. On our way out of the state to go back home, I had convinced my husband to stop at three more places that were on the higher end of our budget, but I felt if he saw them, and they were as advertised, we could make it work. Our first stop was Belle Pre. It was always on the top of my list based on the photos, but we were trying to go a bit lower in rent. As I said, our first stop was Belle Pre, and it was the only stop we had to make. I called ahead to see if we were able to "walk-in" for a tour and their pet policy. They told me it could be a considerable wait if the leasing agents were busy and gave me a great run down on the pet policy. Super friendly on the phone and we were excited to visit. Once we got there, we only had to wait a few minutes, and Tyna came out to talk about our need. She and I had emailed back and forth the week before, and she remembered me; we immediately went up for a tour of the building. The amenities shown on the website do not do this property justice. All the amenities are amazing and go so far and above what we were expecting and did help us in determining the cost benefit. We toured three different apartment types based on our needs, and each was beautiful. It was super quietin the building as well as around the property. Tyna truly was amazing, and her friendliness also helped in making our decision. We decided on the spot this was the place we wanted to live and they had a great special that we were able to take advantage of which severely reduced the move in costs. It took us about 15 minutes to complete the application process, and we received the notice of approval later that day. I hope that once we move in that, we can still say this is a fantastic 5-star place, and I don't see how it couldn't be. The area is beautiful, very walkable and has great transit into DC. We cannot wait until we move and get to experience life at 111 Belle Pre. If you're looking for a tour, I highly recommend Tyna.
I've lived at 1111 Belle Pre for almost 2 years now and haven't had a day of regret. Good location (seriously, everything you need is kind of around you: The Metro, Trader Joe's, gas stations, Target, dentists, mechanics, Chipotle, you name it - it's probably within 2 miles of you in either direction) in Old Town Alexandria - very close to King Street. Good People: Haven't ran across a single neighbor I didn't like. Developing Area: A few businesses have popped up in the building in my time there - two of my favorites being Lost Dog Cafe and Sugar Shack Mason Social (a great bar spot) is right across the street. There's just a lot going on and I genuinely love where I live.
Fantastic loft apartment, beautiful area within walking/biking distance of old town Alexandria. The amenities are top-notch and the staff has already went above and beyond what is expected, and my wife and I have only been here for a week.
We are very happy with our new apartment. The only reason we gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because we were under the impression that our apartment had street access (1st floor loft), but it does not (wrong side of the building). Not a huge deal - there's a door to the street next to the apartment - but we were looking forward to private street access. Aside from that, we've been having some trouble with the parking tag, mostly on exiting. It's difficult to position the car so that the door opener sees our reflective tag, and I have a Mini. It must be harder for larger vehicles in the tight space around the entrance / exit. Worst case, I wave it around outside of the car and it opens. Inconvenient. That's the only complaint we have, though.
It looked all fancy and nice when we moved in. Doors knock in to each other. Pocket doors would have been great. Floors are beginning to separate.Fire alarm goes off once a week. 3 banquet grills is not enough for the amount of people who live here. Being close to the Metro and restaurants and shopping is the main reason for living where we do. Seems like they could have done more for the amount of rent we pay.
My fiance and I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania. Always knowing that we wanted to live near a big city, we found the perfect blend of old and new when we visited Old Town Alexandria, VA (just a 10min drive from DC). Belle Pre Apartments is in a great location. With two metro stops easily accessible by walking or bike, beautiful King Street and the Potomac Waterfront area also walkable, Reagan National Airport with 5mins, and the ever growing and improving neighborhood, we found our treasure in Belle Pre. The Belle Pre building and community is a dream. It is clean, new, perfectly laid out and has the mix of the charm of Old Town with modern flare. The staff is amazing and always helpful. The amenities are out of this world (rooftop pool, gym, common areas, two outdoor grill/patio/fire pit areas, and I love showing off my home to friends and family. If you're looking for a wonderful place with the best neighbors, staff, and location, Belle Pre is your next home sweet home.
We were the second apartment to move into the building on Madison when it opened. The apartments are nice and up to date with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops and hardwood floors. The floors have separated in spots where I believe the building is settling into place and it would have been nice if the bathroom doors were pocket doors so that you wouldn't lose the space in the small apartment. The public spaces are not the best but look nice. The pool is fine but small for how many apartments are in the complex. There are only 3 grills as well. The gym is equipped with a lot of treadmills and ellipticals but could use to have some more diverse cardio equipment. The staff for the most part has been very attentive and responsive when there are problems and always friendly. The maintenance staff are great! There has been a lot of turnover for the property manager position and leasing office staff since the building opened just under 2 years ago though. The area is pretty nice. Very convenient to the Braddock Metro Station and just under a mile walk to King Street. In the building is a restaurant, the best donut shop and a workout gym.
