One of Detroit's popular inner-ring suburbs, Southfield delivers a distinctly urban atmosphere uncommon to communities of its size. The city holds a place as one of the most important commercial centers in Lower Michigan – the large Southfield Town Center business complex (also known as the “Golden Triangle”) serves as the daily workplace for thousands and hosts conferences year-round. The community is popular for folks who work in the local business sector, but with downtown Detroit just fifteen miles away, Southfield is a convenient option for commuters as well.
The city offers extensive facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports from golf to ice hockey, giving folks ample opportunities to stay active year-round. The city’s art scene largely revolves around Park West Gallery, a first-rate venue that houses a diverse selection of exhibits and frequently hosts art auctions as well.

Property Ratings at 12 North
I have resided here over 16 + years; and all these years later, although things do change over time... I still enjoy residing at 12 North, in this Northwest corner of Southfield Michigan.
The staff and residents create a community. Most people have lived here for multiple years. The office staff is responsive and my neighbors look out for me and my children like we are family. I feel safe at home and when I am out and about, I highly recommend!
I have been living here for 3 years and I would strongly tell it's the best place I have ever lived. Dawn is very friendly. Fast and clean maintenance. I would recommend everyone to choose 12 North Apt. Don Sant
I enjoyed my time at 12 North (5 years) and I especially enjoyed my time here because of the apartment staff. From the time I moved in to the time I moved out, Dawn was very nice, helpful and always friendly. Dawn and other members of the leasing office were also always very responsive to calls/emails. I would also see other apartment staff members around the apartment and they were always friendly and welcoming. I also rarely had any maintenance issues but when I did, they were always very fast and resolved the issue.
The neighborhood is not that safe. I had my cars 4 wheels stolen overnight and management nor police did anything about it. Cameras installed are just a joke. Nothing is visible n them. Looks like this is a typical event happening in that area. Avoid the area if you can afford it.
I love living at 12 North. This is the 4th apartment building I have lived in so far in my life, and it is by far my favorite. Dawn (the property manager) is absolutely fantastic, she's super friendly and helpful and she always goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is happy. The building is clean and well maintained, and John (the maintenance guy) is wonderful. I've only had a couple minor maintenance issues (some were totally my own fault) and each one was resolved within 24 hours. They are very responsive to problems. In addition, this building is full of really friendly people. All of my neighbors are so nice, and I rarely hear anything from the apartments around mine. Plus, the location is great with the Lodge, 696, Telegraph, and Northwestern all right around the corner, and tons of places to eat and shop. I recommend 12 North to anyone who is looking for an apartment. I love it here, and fully intend to stay for a while.
I lived here for 3 years and couldn't have been happier. As a physician I value efficiency and time management. On the rare occasions where something would break or need fixing, 1 phone call to the office would see the issue resolved, often within a few hours. Dawn and her management staff were simply fantastic and made living there a breeze. Had I not had to leave the area, 12 North Apartments would have seen me as a resident for many years to come.
I've been living here for just under a year now and it has been fantastic! The manager, Dawn, is extremely friendly and is a pleasure to work with, whether it be paying rent or picking up packages. I haven't had a chance to make it to most of the events, but they happen regularly and offer a good chance to socialize with your neighbors. I have yet to call regarding maintenance issues so I can't speak on the quickness of maintenance work, but is that really such a bad thing? My only complaint, which is relatively minor, is that the renovations on the elevator have taken a while. I've had to use the stairs a couple times due to the active elevator being down. But the new elevators should be back-in-action soon, removing this issue from my very short list. I'm comfortable giving, essentially, nothing but praise to 12 North Apartments. Highly recommended.
I have been a resident for 3 years and I cannot emphasize how much I love it. the management staff is amazing. The community is great and supportive. The location is perfect. Overall, it is a great place to live in. I 100% recommend it!
I was a resident for 4 years and loved every moment. The management staff is wonderful. The community grounds are well taken care of. If every there was a maintenance request, it was taken care of in a timely manner. Management holds community events for all ages. Neighbors are well diverse, kind and respectful. Security was a plus and made me feel very secure. Overall I highly recommend 12 North!
From what I've seen, apartments at 12 North are sizeable and cleaned prior to move-in, and the management has made the move-in process as smooth as possible. It's a good idea to schedule an apartment viewing to get a sense of the apartment you're applying for, since the layouts vary considerably among the different categories (e.g., studio, 1-bedroom, 2-bedrooms). Maintenance requests can be made in person or by leaving a message on the office answering machine. There's a dedicated maintenance person who follows up with any needed fixes within a few days. Best rates for leases are for the full one-year term (this is the maximum length, but can be renewed a couple month prior to the end of the year), though there are options to rent monthly, etc. at higher rates if needed. Also, the location is close to I-696, M-10, and US Route 24, which is convenient if you need to commute for work or just want to visit one of the surrounding communities. As others have mentioned before, there's a security service hired to monitor the premises in the evenings through early mornings.
I love my apartment, it's so perfect for me just the right size. I am older and I can take care of my apartment with ease. The grounds are beautiful and we have a pool that is refreshing and nice to sit beside or cool off in the summer. The office workers are so friendly and always eager to help in case of a concern. Every month they plan an activity that is family oriented and entertaining. All of the tenents are friendly and eager to help,a few times I've come home with too many groceries and someone always offers to help me carry to my apartment. When something goes wrong in my apartment I call down there and the maintence man is right there. I love living at 12 North.
This is my first apartment and I have to say that I love it! It is large and spacious for two people! There is carpet in the living room and bedroom, tile in the bathroom, and vinyl tile in the kitchen. The cabinets are nice and the appliances work very well. The rent is very afforable. The building as a whole is very clean and quiet. You can barely hear anything. The maintenence staff and the people in the leasing office are very nice and helpful. There is laundry and security at night. As well as a secure entrance into the building! It is close to a grocery store and many restaurants!
I have lived at 12 North Apartments for 4 years. It is centered within walking distance from movie theatres, and shopping areas. I am completely satisfied as a tenant. The Manager, Leasing Agent, and Maintenance Staff are professional, efficient, and friendly. Maintenance request are honored within a 24 hour period. The grounds and apartment complex are well maintained. In addition, activities such as fundraising walks for Cancer Institute, bus trips, holiday and pool parties are planned for residents to enjoy, thus creating a great community atmosphere. I highly recommend 12 North Apts.
I have had the pleasure of living in 12 North for about 2 years now. Its a great place to live, many of the residents are friendly, and I have had little to no issues with building management. When I have issues they are often fixed in a timely manner. For example, my window was leaking in cold air during the winter, I let management know, they sent in the maintenance man to check it out, he confirmed, two weeks later I had a new window installed. The only complaint I have to date is that the washers and dryers on ever floor cost $1.75 per wash and per dry, that is $3.50 per load of laundry, which is kind of absurd.
My apartment is very clean, quite and comfortable. It is close to where I work, shop and play. It's home.
If you are looking for a place that has tenant activities, bus trips, summer BBQ's, a gym, community room, pool, well maintained grounds, maintenance requests completed same day, quiet tenants, friendly office staff, 24 hour security, with access to multiple restaurants, shopping and expressways within walking distance, 12 NORTH IS FOR YOU!
I chose to live in 12 North as it was very close to my office. The area is very safe with accessibility to malls, multiplex, restaurants and other amenities. The apartment has a nice and just right gym and a cute summer swimming pool. Covered parking and ample general parking is good and nicely maintained. I should say that my experience at 12 North has been awesome. Dawn, Mike & Ken have set very high levels of service competence and are the most helpful and responsive apartment management team I have come across yet. Way to go 12 North! I would strongly recommend 12 North if you would like to say in Southfield.
Good location, great views, great prices! Plus, it works great for me because it is close to work and school. :)
This complex is very nice; the trees and landscape set it apart from other apartments. The staff is so helpful and very friendly; they fix everything you need in a timely fashion. One downfall is the new young tenants coming in who party in the parking lots and leave trash all over the complex. None of the staff seems to be handling the problem, because the problem is getting worse and seem to be getting bigger in numbers. Other than that it is a very nice place to live!
12 North Apartments was a great place to live. The management and staff are very friendly, kind, and professional. I recommend this apartment to everyone. It is close to local freeways and easy access to shopping.
