The Canton community of Baltimore city is an exciting environment to call home. With the popular Canton Square area's restaurants and bars, access to the city's largest public park, and some of the area's best schools, Canton is one of the most prominent communities in the city.
With a location within Baltimore City proper, and just a mile away from downtown, this urban waterfront community is a convenient location for those seeking an easy commute to downtown.
While Canton may have the most famous bar and nightlife district in the city, this charming community, filled with historic row homes, is also a family-friendly community.

Property Ratings at 1212 East
AVOID this complex at all costs. I have lived at 1212 East for two months and have had issue after issue. Firstly, the leasing office manager completely forgot that I was scheduled to move in until I called the office to schedule picking up my keys. Additionally, my lease states that I am allowed two key fobs, however, I still have yet to receive the second fob. There is no one consistently at the office during the week (though when I toured the complex it was stated that the office was open Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm) so packages are often left outside of the building. Three weeks after I moved in a bird got stuck in the locked closet where my HVAC system is. I spent several hours unable to reach anyone as no one was in the leasing office, the portal was down, and I was not given an emergency number. I was finally able to get a hold of the maintenance manager after calling the company who owns the property and complaining. Again, I was willing to overlook this as it seemed like a freak accident, until, I got a SECOND bird stuck in my closet. While on a walk with my dog the prior day, I spotted two exterior vents without caps that seemed to be where they were getting in. After the maintenance manager came to remove the bird, I showed him the openings on the side of the building and he agreed that was where they were gaining access. Caps still have not been added to these vents. And nothing has been done to close off my actual unit from this opening. On Thursday night, a rat ran across my bedroom floor. After (rightfully) freaking out, I canvassed the apartment and found several rat droppings AND mouse droppings. I lived in DC prior to this, so I know what a rat looks like and this one was huge. The only opening the rat could have come through is the one in my HVAC closet that the birds have come through. So, I am now unable to live in my unit because I am terrified of its apparent rodent infestation and the health and safety hazard of living with said rodents. I spoke to several of my neighbors and it turns out that they have also experienced mice and there is a third floor apartment with a terrible mouse infestation, so this is not isolated to my unit. I submitted a maintenance request and have heard nothing. I am extremely disappointed and disgusted and regret my decision to move to 1212 East and strongly recommend that any prospective tenants avoid this property at all costs.
After having lived in 1212 for three years, i would dissuade anyone from living at this property. Online maintenance requests go unanswered, there is never a leasing associate in the building to answer questions, all calls go to the corporate office and go unanswered. The corporate office will claim they have no information on your security deposit and it will never be returned. The water at times smells of sewage. After complaining, they said nothing can be done. Cars are broken into out front of the property and despite having cameras, they are always broken or not recording. There are next to zero amenities for this complex. It is not worth the money.
I would not advise anyone to move here. Besides the location, there is no good reason to live here. The property management company is a joke and lies to your face. The parking garage still floods, despite management claiming this issue has been resolved. Access doors have never worked properly and this leads to packages stolen and vehicles getting broken into in the "secure" garage. Maintenance requests go unanswered and amenities that they tout are not even available. Great location, okay price, awful living experience.

Big shout out to the 1212 East Maintenance & Management Team!! Above & beyond responses to maintenance requests! Placed a request on Saturday afternoon for Monday; however less than ONE hour afterward, Gamel (maintenance super) was on the spot working on AC. Never expected a weekend response. Gamel is totally on top of things, always courteous, patient, & professional. Really appreciate his excellent and knowledgeable service. Have to add kudos for Shannon (property manager) that saw the request before leaving the office, thought it should not wait, & sent it on to Gamel. What a team!! Glad to know and experience the 1212 team are all on the same page! All I can say is WOW!! Really happy and confident if issues arise in my home or around 1212, they will be addressed & resolved. This is a UNIQUE, smaller, community w/interesting homes in a terrific location. By & large its pretty quiet here particularly given its a very DOG FRIENDLY community. There is a Dog Washing station and Pet Park inside the community which is convenient and safe! Big pluses are the one stop fee structure! Rent fee covers, parking, water, & trash! Majority of homes have outdoor space. Been here about 10 months. Sure there are things that come up, some bumps in the road, but feel management is proactive in addressing residents concerns.
