130 William
When 130 William opened in 2020 it was notable for its unique façade and high-profile architect. Set between Fulton and John Streets, the 66-story condo building was heralded as the first tower designed by British-Ghanaian architect David Adjaye, renowned for designing the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC. (In the years since, Adjaye has fallen out of favor in some circles and lost some projects due to misconduct allegations, first reported by the Financial Times in 2023.) Adjaye Associates, working with Hill West Architects, sought to summon masonry architecture and the appearance of volcanic rock with the building’s exterior, enlisting the use of textured cast concrete. The exterior panels have an angled profile, giving the building a unique jagged edge, while large arched windows are intended to be reminiscent of early New York warehouses. The building emphasizes texture and form, dark and light; inviting residents into airy open living spaces through a cave-like veneer. “Seeing a building of this unique exterior stand in the New York City skyline, I think that’s what really draws a lot of buyers into the building,” says Ali Raza, a native New Yorker and real estate broker with Corcoran who has sold in the building. 130 William’s prominent shell, along with top-tier amenities have contributed to the popularity of the building. “The sales have been amazing; there’s barely an inventory left in the property,” Raza says. The building’s 242 units have been designed with a luxury aesthetic in mind, highlighting high-end imported materials. Wide plank white oak flooring stretches across the floors, contrasting with custom Pedini Italian dark oak cabinetry. Burnished brass finishes and Salvatori Pietra Cardosa marble countertops offer a sleek modern feel, alongside Gaggneau and Thermador appliances. Floorplans offer variety to appeal to an assortment of lifestyles. A compact studio with a walk-in closet can sell for under $1 million, while a four-bedroom duplex with a curved interior staircase and dual-oven kitchen might cost upward of $5 million. The building also contains five residences, on the 59th and 60th floors, that were designed as a collaboration with Aston Martin. These are fully outfitted with furniture from Formitalia and the Aston Martin Home Collection, and were sold to include an Aston Martin DBX vehicle. As residents and visitors walk through 130 William’s private entry courtyard into the plush lobby, colorful art objects pop from a floor-to-ceiling wall of backlit shelves and a fireplace illuminates a small seating area. The reception desk is attended 24-7 and “the concierge and entire staff in the building are amazing; hands-on, caring,” Raza says. The building’s enviable amenities include a spa with multiple pools, dry sauna and a massage room, a well-appointed health and wellness center, yoga studio, and a full basketball court. Spacious residents’ lounges and a private IMAX theater allow for entertaining guests. “If you’re a resident that has family and friends in town, one portion of your friends and family can play pool, another can watch TV, and another can be on the outside patio,” Raza says. The building’s large rooftop patio delivers lounge areas, outdoor grills and stunning 360 views, spanning over Midtown and Lower Manhattan and the East River. With its excellent location near the Financial District and South Street Seaport, 130 William is just a 10-minute walk to the restaurants and eateries of the Tin Building by Jean-Georges to the east, and a 15-minute walk to One World Observatory and Brookfield Place to the west. Culture lovers can take in dance and theater performances at the recently opened Perelman Performing Arts Center. A stroll east along Fulton Street can include a trip to McNally Jackson Books and the Seaport farmer’s market. In the summertime concerts on the Rooftop at Pier 17 are a hot ticket, and events ranging from artisan pop-ups to outdoor workouts take place in the Seaport area year-round. A subway hub at Fulton Street grants easy transportation access to residents of 130 William. The 2 and 3 trains are just steps away, and the 4 and 5 and J and Z trains are close by. The R and W and E trains are within a three-block walk.

The Financial District sits at the tip of Lower Manhattan. It is the oldest part of New York City – the city was created here in 1624. Known as the world’s center of finance, the district is home to the largest stock exchange in the world, the New York Stock Exchange. Sometimes referred to as FiDi, the district contains a variety of high-end restaurants and bars along Wall Street, popular hangouts for those working at the exchange.
Many landmarks are in the Financial District, including One World Trade Center, The National 9/11 Memorial and Museum, the Ellis Island National Immigration Museum, the Castle Clinton National Monument, and Battery Park. National Historic Sites include St. Paul’s Chapel, founded in 1766 and visited by George Washington after his inauguration in 1789. Stone Street, one of New York’s oldest streets, is a historic district, first paved in 1658.
Because so much is happening in the Financial District, it is packed with residents, workers, and tourists.
