One57 Tower
Along the border of Central Park South, the Manhattan skyline is punctuated by the swooping facade of One57. The architect, Christian de Portzamparc, likens the design he completed in 2013 to a pixelated, Gustav Klimt-like painting, and he’s not far off. Four distinctive setbacks articulate the exterior curtain wall, like cascading waterfalls of interlocking grey- and sapphire-colored glass. From the last “waterfall” on the sixth floor, the glazed glass panels break the grid, curving into sculptural, wave-like covered entryways — over both entrances to the hotel and private residences. Standing just over 1,000 feet with 73 stories, there are 95 ultra-luxury residences on floors 32 through 90, residential amenities on floor 31, and Park Hyatt New York hotel rooms on floors three through 30. On the ground floor, a private residential lobby is centered around an oversized original Joan Miró painting flanked by sumptuous sofas handpicked by Danish interior designer Thomas Juul-Hansen. “One57 was the first supertall tower on ‘Billionaires’ Row’ and spawned what is now considered the most prestigious residential corridor in Manhattan,” says Gary Barnett, founder and chairman of Extell, the New York-based developer. “At the time, it broke the record for the highest price ever paid for a single residence in New York City.” Residences at One57 come completely furnished; Juul-Hansen dreamt up bespoke furnishings in a grouping he aptly dubbed “One Collection.” There’s a lot of very comfortable, deep-seated furniture swathed in beige or gray textiles. The overall design unfolds in a neutral color palette that is best described as “quiet luxury.” Kitchens are outfitted with custom cabinetry by Smallbone of Devizes, integrated Miele appliances and Dornbracht fittings. Inside the cabinets, the residence is complete with dishware, cutlery and appliances — just about anything one might need to cook or host. If desired, the in-house concierge can plan in-residence dining and pantry stocking. The bedrooms feature DUX mattresses made of Duxiana and SFERRA Italian linens. Bathrooms are wrapped in Italian marble with radiant heated flooring and fixtures by Waterworks and Dornbracht. One of the perks of living above a five-star hotel is having access to in-residence dining and catering “at a moment's notice.” As if they were on vacation, residents can partake in turndown services, dry-cleaning, laundry and daily housekeeping, all supplied by the hotel staff. Access to the hotel’s amenities is also available to anyone living in the private residents, which include the cocktails in Living Room champagne bar, services at Spa Nalai and the wellness suite — featuring a jacuzzi, steam room, fitness center and saltwater pool with custom “underwater soundtrack” prepared by Carnegie Hall. And the amenities and services only available to private residents are also quite exquisite, including a resident’s lounge with a curated library, a billiards table and a 24-foot aquarium. In Ode to nearby Carnegie Hall, there’s an exclusive lounge with Steinway piano and sumptuous tiered seating. In that majestic double-height lobby, a lifestyle concierge manages both day-to-day and extraordinary requests for One57 residents. It’s an outright luxury to be able to walk in less than ten minutes to the Museum of Modern Art, one of the world’s foremost institutions for modern and contemporary art. Meanwhile, Fifth Avenue has long been synonymous with iconic shopping experiences, like the flagship of the luxury department store Saks Fifth Avenue. Just a short walk away, Bergdorf Goodman awaits with its exquisite designer collections and stunning window displays. Luxury shoppers rejoice! Along the avenue are flagship locations of brands like Cartier, Louis Vuitton and Chanel. And don’t forget about Carnegie Hall, the world-renowned classical music hall and designated historical national landmark, just down the block and across the street. Residents are located by a major transportation hub, 59 Street-Columbus Circle station, approximately a quarter of a mile or about a 5-minute walk from One57. The concourse just below The Shops at Columbus Circle houses 1, A, B, C and D trains. There are also two nearby stations along 57th Street: the N, Q, R and W trains at 57th Street-7th Avenue and the F train at 57th Street station at 6th Avenue.
