Historic red brick architecture and modern glass skyscrapers share the streets of downtown Hartford, also known as the Insurance Capitol of the World. Downtown has experienced something of a resurgence, adding new restaurants and almost doubling its residential population, while a comprehensive local bus system services the entire metro area. Residents crowd the streets running errands and walking dogs, and thousands turn up every summer to hear Hartford's old vanguard of jazz musicians play in Bushnell Park, the oldest public park in the United States.

Property Ratings at 179 Allyn
Put simply, there are many things to be aware of before you consider living here. PROS: -Apartments are nice with modern appliances. It’s unusual to have to be worried about repairs. The walls too are actually pretty thick, I’m assuming because it’s an older building and there’s probably more concrete. -The location in downtown is nice/convenient, particularly if you work in the city. You’re within walking distance of places like Bushnell Park, XL Center, Dunkin’ Park, Pratt St. and some pretty good bars and restaurants. While it is true most people leave downtown for a night out for more options, there are still some things close by. The train station too is convenient, especially if you’re looking to commute/take a trip to NYC (you can switch over trains in New Haven). -For me, electricity/internet was the only extra utility paid. Heat and hot water are typically included. CONS: -It can get noisy outside on the weekends, particularly if you have windows facing the street. There’s The Russel on the ground floor of the building which will hold events occasionally, but 99 percent of the noise stems from the club on the other side of the building. The club itself sounds well insulated, but people and cars outside, mainly late at night, have become more of a problem since it opened. I do not recommend living below the fourth floor for the noise reasons. -Security is something I’d be conscious of. There are two sets of doors to get into the building, but the second has been unlocked/unlatched for longest time as of this writing. Homeless people have wandered into the building on more than one occasion, particularly when it’s cold out. There are cameras in and around the lobby. I’ve been told management has been made aware of all these concerns, but, I’m not aware of any fixes yet. -There’s no parking lot for the building. You need to pay to use one of the private lots nearby, which averages out to $100 or more extra per month depending on where you park. It should be noted that management is friendly, but you do sometimes need to badger them to make sure stuff gets done. Moreover, the apartments are priced well for what they offer. At the time of this writing, it is not easy to find a one bedroom at the same price point. But these are things to keep in mind.

Lived on Allyn for about 2 years and do not recommend, I had to cancel my lease because enough is enough. Constant car break ins, packages are always stolen from the mail room so please use a family members address or get a PO Box. Forgot your key? No problem just yank the right door and anyone can get in. First year was rough and once Vesta Management took over it got worse. They aren’t flexible and are quick to send eviction notices. Due to the yanking of the right door, please expect to find homeless people sleeping in the lobby or on main floors. The rugs are not routinely washed and laundry doesn’t work. Please look elsewhere for sanitary and safety reasons.

There currently is no working laundry facility in this building as of 1.29.24. I am about to report to the city. The elevator also does not work and I almost peed on myself trying to get to my apartment. I am tired of complaining to the office. From what I heard they are quicker to file evictions than actually putting work into the building. Definitely moving this year.

I’ve been living here just shy of 3 years. It is extremely loud on 4 of the 7 nights of the week with The Russell being downstairs. The parking is very expensive and not given through the apartment, it’s at least $100 a month. People have been stealing packages every since I moved in. There is zero direction for the deliveries and most packages are just left right when you walk in the door for anyone to take. The management does nothing. They pretty much do the bare minimum - it’s always very dirty in the halls and entrance. The rent is way too expensive for all of those things considered.
I moved in a few years ago, the day I saw the place I fell in love. It was beautiful and well maintained. I didn't care that the sales lady coned me into paying way more that the going rate. I just loved it. Pros It is in the downtown Hartford area, so easy access to work, restaurants and bars (However, to be honest most people leave Downtown Hartford to go have fun). The apartments are modern. Cons Fast forward 2 years later after moving in and a new management group, the place is not the same. When a problems arises you can hardly ever get someone on the phone to address the issue. The building is not being properly maintained; the carpets and elevators are covered in pet urine, the washing rooms are filthy to the point where I do not do laundry here anymore, the trash-shoot is broken a lot, there is dust everywhere, the gym does not get cleaned, etc. Whenever it snows they do a poor job of cleaning it up. Overall, the price of living here does not match the quality one should expect. P.S - walls are not sound proof, you can hear what your neighbor does and the noises from outside.
I have been living in this property just shy of 3 years, same unit the whole time. While I've enjoyed my unit, I've watched the building itself and general upkeep slide. The pros: modern, nicely appointed units, solid appliances, no major malfunctions with anything, comfortable, and can barely hear neighbors. I haven't had to deal with maintenance often since nothing has really broken The cons: it is downtown Hartford- be street smart especially at night, garage or lot parking comes with additional cost, limited options when it comes to selecting cable/internet packages and none are cheap, cream carpets can get dirty. In the beginning, the building upkeep was always prompt, everything was kept clean, issues were addressed quickly. Three years later and under a new management company, there are issues. Certain things are starting to get worn down- walls are dinged and paint is scuffed from move-ins and outs or poor treatment. Dust bunnies and dirty stairwells. Garbage bags left in hallways. Routinely broken garbage/recycling shoots, at least weekly. Messy laundry rooms that can take a bit to be cleaned. Broken or breaking laundry machines. A broken handicap accessible front door. Stained carpets in the hallways. I totally understand that this happens, but for the price of living there and the lack of action on addressing these issues, promptly, if at all, is problematic. Not sure if I'd renew my lease when it's up for renewal; there would need to be more engagement and proactive upkeep from management. Not a bad place all-in-all.
I lived here for 3 years and im disabled. The first year was great but noisey on thur - sat with a club and bar downstairs. When the sister apt opened on Capital ave managment went there and the place fell apart. No managment on Property and the maintance man has to handle 180 units. He does his best to keep up and I give him alot of credit. Managment comp is rude and they make up excuses. Not worth the money
I am not someone who ever writes reviews about anything but i had to share my experience. I have only started living here for about 2 weeks and i'm very impressed by everything (my beautiful apartment, the management team, maintenance, etc.) You honestly get your money's worth. A lot of recent graduates usually gravitate towards West Hartford but i'm so glad i didn't do that, i love my apartment. It is very modern but it has so much character, it is also in close proximity to everything you could ever need. It reminds me a lot of my previous apartment in NYC
I have been in my unit for about 4 months and I have to say... it's amazing. I have a corner unit and the views are great. The apartment is a great size for one person and it has the character that I was looking for in an older, remodeled building. The staff here is so helpful. Anytime I have questions or need help moving a box, they are always willing to help. I've never lived in any place where the management and maintenance people are so helpful and that's one of the reasons why I MAY NEVER LEAVE :-) The building is full of charm and it's part of the National Historic Registry. You can see that craftsmanship as soon as you enter the lobby. It's always clean and I've had no issues with security. 179 Allyn is in an great location right across from the train station. There are plenty of bars and restaurants near by. I walk to XL for concerts and don't even have to fight for parking. How great is that?!?! I highly recommend living here.
179 Allyn is a wonderful place to live. Everything is brand new, and the building itself is very well taken care of. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and have always been able to answer any questions I have. Like another reviewer said, the views are great. I was hesitant to live in downtown Hartford because of poor reviews of management/cleanliness in many of the buildings, however 179 Allyn has made me never want to leave!
Very nice looking apartments and staff is quite nice. If you live in the 3rd floor or above you will probably not have any trouble with noise, because I don't have any. Only downside is that you have to pay for parking. Other than the parking this is a nice place to live.
The view is amazing. You can see the city lights. It's as if you live in a high rise. In New York City. The apartment has so much character. The cabinets in the kitchen are large, modern and shut without slamming. The flooris are part hardwood and carpet which is most conducive to living . The bathroom is also renovated and fairly large. The apartment has access to laundry facilitiy, work out room and club house room. It's beautiful....
