The first and arguably the most unique neighborhood in Austin, Judge’s Hill is the city’s last downtown district that is strictly residential. The historic neighborhood was established in 1851 and several of the homes are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. From the original land grant to a superior court judge in 1835 to the most prominent residents of the 1850s, several judges have played a role in Judge’s Hill history.
With its attractive homes atop manicured lawns and tree-lined streets, Judge’s Hill is an oasis in the city. It borders Pease District Park, a terrific urban park with picnic areas, ball courts, and hiking trails (and an annual party to celebrate Eeyore). Austin Community College is on the south end of the neighborhood, and the Texas Capitol is about five blocks from the eastern edge of Judge’s Hill.
