Settled around 1786, Madison Heights has a long and interesting history. It also features several historic sites, such a s Galt’s Mill Complex. This mill, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built around 1813. Oak Lawn, also on the national register, is a house built around 1810. Fort Riverview, an archaeological site, served as a redoubt during the Civil War.
To enjoy the natural landscape, head to Percival’s Island Natural Area, an island in the James River. This is a terrific place to walk, bike ride, or view nature.
