Property Ratings at 1919 Portsmouth
The first few months of my lease, the property had been well taken care of, the pool was kept clean, and the access gates were always secure. They even put a lot of work into getting the fountains running which was a nice extra to the property even though they often stopped working. But they'd be at it the next day working on it again. Settling into my apartment, I initially had some concern of mold but would often open my window to allow natural air flow. I recently needed to change my air filter and the crawl space housing the air filter was damp and muggy which only made me nervous again about mold. I didn't report it and this was maybe two months ago now. Since then the crawl space actually has dried up significantly. Another concern in the apartment was that there was a clear presence of rat infestation at some point in the past. The area housing the furnace had several old glue traps and old rat droppings, a couple of dead roaches. When I would open cabinets, the air pressure would blow rat droppings from above cracks in the wall. I have not seen a rat nor any new droppings so I simply cleaned up these spaces and sealed them. Today, however, management must've finally received reports about the access door on Norfolk being broken and just wide open and in response, they barred the access gate shut, forcing all residents to have to enter/exit from Portsmouth. No notice was given about this. All residents who don't pay for property will all likely resort to parking on Portsmouth, making that street overly congested and if you park on Norfolk, you'd have to walk all the way around to access the property. Alternatively, access the sister property and walk through there to access the main property, I guess but that's not much better. Notices had been going out for a while about management being out of office and at this point, I'm not even sure if Jasmine is still with the property. And today I took a picture of a notice on the property management door stating the office is "closed until further notice". Jasmine was a selling point for me on this property and I'm concerned if she's no longer there, it will be as bad as reviews suggested prior. I'll gladly update all of this if I see some response in actionable items to the access door on Norfolk and some clarity on the status of property management. Until then, no one should be trying to move into this property.
I've lived here for two weeks, and I'll relay the issues I have experienced thus far. (1) We were supposed to move in June 10th. We were pushed back on our move in date twice to June 24th. (2) I was towed for parking in a spot that I was under the impression I had contracted for. I was told it was because I had failed to register properly. This is despite me registering my vehicle with the office. (3) I was towed only a week later. My reserved spot was 42. However, I parked in 43. One might think that a management that cares, at least somewhat, for their tenants, they would be just a little more forgiving--perhaps offer a discount on rent. But no, I was met with only with "there's nothing we can do about that." (4) We moved in with a flea and roach infestation. After being eaten alive for two weeks, the fleas have mostly subsided. There is still a flea here and there.. (5) The roaches have only gotten worse. They infest the kitchen, making it all but unusable at night. When they finally tried to address the issue, I was told that because I had left but a few things in my cabinets, I was unable to receive treatment, and that I will now have to wait another week. If I am met with more agreeable management practices, I will be sure to update my review accordingly.
