Property Ratings at 20 Hawley
Hawley is a good place if you don’t ever need anything from the main office. Their policies are unclear and subjective depending on the resident. 20Hawley doesn’t operate as a company, but rather as a group of individuals who don’t accept professional responsibility for things they do wrong or inconsistently. I would never recommend 20Hawley knowing what it’s like to live there. Once the company has your lease, they stop caring about your needs as a resident.
The website and pictures of 20Hawley Street look great but it is far from the reality of the building. Many of the amenities that are offered are broken or dirty. It seems as if the maintenance is short-staffed but they honestly do their best. On our particular floor, the garbage room emits a constant stench that lingers even after cleaning and is filled with flies. One of the rooms in our apartment has a spider problem that has failed to be properly addressed. A few of the AC units in our apartment have not functioned properly since we have moved in even after multiple service requests. The parking garage has a strange white substance on the ceiling that falls on my car in my designated parking space which forces me to constantly clean my car. The fire alarm has gone off at least 15 times in the 2 and 1/2 months I've lived here. The laundry room is dirty and machines are regularly broken and there are not enough machines for the number of people in the building. Some of the machines in the gym don't function properly and others are dirty. Other than that, the building is close to the bars which helps me cope with the stress of living at 20Hawley Street.
20 Hawley Boast itself as a "luxury" apartment building with premium amenities and good customer service. The truth is that the building is run like a frat house half of the time and the staff let the problems sit to rot. There are always repairs happening, broken equipment and TVs, No hot water, frequent fire alarms, pot smoke everywhere, robberies, and paid garage space that is often closed on one end without notice, leaving you to try and find a spot on the streets and pay. The quality consistent here is the same as a newly cheap dorm on campus. My suggestion, keep looking.
Hawley has a very pretty exterior but with a hefty price tag. The one big reason why decided to sign was because of the large windows in every bedroom, however besides that and a personal bathroom, Hawley lacks in many other components. One annoying part is the extra fee for telecommunication and parking however it is underground, so I guess it's reasonable. Also the fire alarm is very easily set off, which means at least two fire drills a week.
