Starkville is what you’d call a college town for sure. Home to a large student population focused on academics and sports, this city also houses numerous apartments near cool amenities. As you probably guessed, the gem of Starkville is Mississippi State University which is surrounded by bars, mom-and-pop eateries, boutiques, and bookstores.
When you live in Starkville, you’ll notice when the entire community gears up for game day. “Hail State” is a common greeting that echoes throughout the town, and it’s safe to say that a great deal of the community revolves around college sports like football. Locals, alumni, and visitors alike are often tailgating before a big game. On game day eves, New South Weekends in Starkville offer tons of activities from wine tastings to block parties.
MSU and surrounding neighborhoods have a lot of art and culture offerings. The Lyceum Series, presented by the university, features concerts, dance recitals, and musicals throughout the year.

Property Ratings at Yugo Starkville Campus Common
Everything about living at YUGO was a nightmare. Pls read and save yourself headaches. -move in day, there were people still living in our assigned unit.... mngmt had never told these people when to be out, just happened to forget. My roommates and I waited OUTSIDE in mid-august for 8hrs while cleaners and painters fixed a new unit (very poorly). Mngmt never offered us water or a cool place to sit while they fixed the mistake. They never offered us any monetary comp. for this. I had to fight tooth and nail just to get my roommates and I compensated $50 for 8hrs of time in the heat. Meanwhile, on move out day, you are charged $100/hr after move out time. -At move in, my shower and sink drain were clogged with a disgusting wad of hair and gunk, so much that neither sink nor tub would drain properly. -Throughout the year, the faucets ran brown water: mngmt said this was normal and to let the water run for a few minutes. -Within first month, my roommates tub started to leak internally within the wall. The leak spilled into the kitchen below through drywall and the air vent, letting water pour into the kitchen. -Mngmt put a dehumidifier on the first floor and left it in our kitchen long after it was needed. -Mngmt had painters come paint over the water damage on the ceiling, getting paint spots all over the counter and floor that never came off. -We had all but one light (laundry room light) broken for over a week. No kitchen light, no living room light, no oven light, no sink light. This was while the dehumidifier was downstairs. -kitchen faucet was loose for months, it wouldn't stay in place, making one side of the sink useless. -2/4 stove burners didn't work (no heat at all) for the entire year. Multiple maintenance requests and they were never properly fixed. -Sink/garbage disposal leaked for an entire year, had to leave a bucket in the cabinet below the sink and empty it periodically. -The front door had no seal. Daylight and air came through b/tw the door and the frame/ground. Cant imagine how much we paid on wasted heat/AC. -Broken AC for multiple days during the fall -After ~week, they put window AC units in the bdrms. Did a pisspoor job using tape to seal the cracks, and bugs were constantly coming in. -tree fell on our patio and was left for months until moveout. -Ceiling fan broken (no light or fan) for month. Maint. claimed it was fixed many times, they lied -When new fan was installed, it had no lights. Only the fan, no bulb sockets.
Dont come here. They will give you Move-in date without cleaning the Room. Door lock will be broken OR AC will not be worked OR Room will not be cleaned OR Comod tap will be leaked. What they do before move in date only they know? DONT TAKE LEASE HERE
Yugo is where’s it’s at y’all…very nice, lots of fun, events are great, great food, and very nice people. Dezundria is awesome, very cheerful, easy to talk to and she’s always smiling. So if y’all need ANYTHING, make sure y’all go holla at her !!!!!!!
From pest issues and filth to broken air conditioning and noise, 21 apartments is the perfect place to see just how bad things can be. They’ll ignore your maintenance requests and go out of their way to create more issues than they intend to solve. There was not a single week during my time here where it was even a tolerable situation. Then, on top of everything else, they’ll make sure to charge you for any lie they think they can get away with. They’re careful with how they construct the lease, so it’s practically impossible to get out once you sign. Don’t go through what I did, stay away.
Very bad management and service. I have been living here for past 4 months. I had complained about my roommate's loud noisy and messy behavior multiple times to the management. But they did not take any action. when I asked them to change my apartment for that, they asked extra money from me to change to another apartment in their complex. even though the managers here told me they will change my apartment for free, after 15 minutes they call me again and told me to pay to change room. They do not care about their residents at all. I would recommend anyone to stay away from their apartment if they want to live a peaceful and good life.
I have moved out from 21 Apt. They hold my deposit (270$) for "damaged charge" and "cleaning". In the bill statement no specific damaged item was listed, only three line of "damaged charge" and the estimate amount of money. All pictures and video taken before leaving show my apartment is clean and nothing is damaged beyond normal wear and tear. I tried to contact to dispute my deposit via email and physical mail but no response. Further attempt to communicate by phone or meeting manager seems does not work. My friend told me to take lawsuit to against them in the small claim court.
This complex is cheap, but for a GOOD reason. The moment I moved in we've had problems ranging from mold, sinking floor, LOTS of fruit flies, drug addict neighbors, and overall the worst experience ever. If you're trying to pinch pennies and live here... do yourself a favor and DON'T! They're just going to charge you extra for anything and everything anyways.
Excellent front office and hard working workers. They take the time to fix any problems and they do not waste time doing it! The housing is great and the community is very quiet.

We're happy to see that you've enjoyed your time here at 21 Apartments. We are also pleased to see that our staff has been able to provide you with the exceptional service that you deserve. Customer service is the most important thing that we do, and we are ecstatic that we are achieving that. Please feel free to reach out to our team if you ever need anything! Thanks - 21 Apartments Team!
Our students have not been able to live in the apartment or go to school on campus. These are hard times for families and then to expect to have the students pay full price for apartments not lived in is outrages. I bet there are many families that are not even paying the rent. So, why not give those of us that are paying at lest a price break. Not good business practice. If the students were in the dorm the college was giving refunds.
I loved living here when I was in college. It is a friendly envrionment to live in, and the office staff are super friendly. Maintenece is also super helpful and will always come around if you need help with something. Great place to live for students, especially if they go to Mississippi State as they can just walk across the street.
Great staff and 24/7 maintenance ! Clean apartment complex with a great towing service!

Thank you so much for the reveiew and feedback! Our team is glad to hear that you are enjoying your apartment and that our staff is giving you great customer service! Let us know if you ever need anything in the near future! 21 Apartments Team
Not going to lie I heard horror stories bout 21 and was very hesitant to go somewhere else but it’s not as bad as they made it to be. My apartment was clean-er than I expected, small dents and bumps, had a pair of socks on my balcony?? but other than that it’s very clean and livable great customer service questionable price homey atmosphere and super close to the campus. So if you are a freshman going in to your sophomore year 21 is where it’s at?? Also it’s true about getting a apartment with people you know it sucks at times but you get over it or they leave ?? either one.

I would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking to stay close to campus! Its in walking distance and very nice location. The parking is great! I signed with 21 after going to a friends apartment once and I fell inlove. I live with three of my friends and its amazing! Very nice, calm staff!
I have had a great time living here for the past two years and I will be living here for the next year. Maintenance is always fast and get things done right, and management is super nice. 9/10 would recommend, only complaint loud neighbors, but that's anywhere.
DO NOT LIVE HERE. I repeat. DO NOT LIVE HERE. If I could give this place no stars I certainly would without hesitation. This place is awful and awfully run. Several years ago when I moved into the apartment I was assigned, it was absolutely disgusting. The common areas had hair and dirt everywhere and the bedroom was the worst thing ive ever seen in my 22 years of living. The tub looked like 40 people went mud riding with dogs and washed all of the mud off in the tub and didn't rinse it out. The baseboards and walls were filthy. the carpet looked like several had animals used it as their toilet. If you took all of the hair off of the baseboards in the common areas and just my room, you could make enough wigs for every hairless person in the WORLD. Everything was nasty and you could clearly tell they didn't clean anything before we moved in. It took 2 people 4 hours to just clean the bedroom and bathroom 4 HOURS. that is not including the several hours spent cleaning the fridge, oven, getting the hair off the couches, etc. fast forward to move out. the lease says NOTHING about getting the carpet professionally cleaned but you are required to get the carpet cleaner or you will be charged. They will charge you for literally anything and everyone get some kind of charge. I have seen charges vary from $70-$300. Granted everything was disgusting and dirty when I moved in, it was all cleaned by me BUT I was still charged for spots and things that were ALREADY THERE WHEN I MOVED IN. Its convenient and cheap but you get what you pay for and for that reason. DO NOT LIVE HERE. It was the worst decision I have made to date in college and I certainly do not want anyone else to make that mistake.

I've been living here for about two years and have enjoyed it. Sure it hasn't been the best living experience, but I don't expect any apartment complex to be perfect especially if you're used to living in a house. I never really had any problems other than when it came to my pet fee, but it was figured out. Maybe I'm just a passive person, but I sure do love that I can walk to campus and not have to pay for those over priced parking decals that do not guarantee you a spot.

Very nice and good pool area...the location is nice as well.
Great place to live. Very affordable! All the office staff are very nice!
Living here is wonderful thus far. The property managers and maintenance men are VERY professional and helpful. Move in was a breeze also. No complaints so far.
the pictures can be deceiving. I currently stay here and can't wait until my lease is up. I've been ready to move out since i moved in. It reeks of weed most nights and very loud. When i moved in my apartment was covered in dust along with loose tiles, stained carpet, dirt/cracked walls, and broken drawer. I was told nothing would be repaired while I'm there. Overall, i was and am fairly disappointed. Yeah, its convenient but at the cost of other things like allergies and peace.

Where to start? I’ve waited almost a week multiple times for my toilet to be fixed by maintenance, they have signed off on work orders when nothing was fixed, there isn’t adequate visitor parking, and it’s clear they don’t care much about the appearance of the place. There were clothes in the apartment that I moved into, the table in the middle of the pool is falling to pieces -in the pool-, and most of the equipment in the gym doesn’t work. It smells like an actual dumpster at least once a week. The people in the office aren’t usually friendly & I cannot express how many times I’ve had packages delivered that the office “never got”. They charge you extra for any tiny thing you could think of. OH & at this very moment my water is the color of rust. But has anyone from the office warned anyone or even sent an explanation? Of course not. Resigning my lease was singlehandedly the worst decision I’ve ever made. I dread living here another year.

When I signed my lease at 21, I had only seen apartments that my friends lived in. I signed with a friend of mine but ended up being matched with 3 random people. Since living here, my roommates and I have had no issues whatsoever! When I do get off days, I spend them at the fitness center or at the pool. I love that it is not a chlorine pool and the grill is almost always available for cookouts with me and the guys! Since my move-in day, we have gotten completely new office staff and they are incredible! I would suggest 21 to anyone who wants to live close to campus and see friendly faces when needing help. 5/5 Stars!!

I have enjoyed 21 so much! It's very close to MSU, the office staff is very friendly! The maintenance man also have awesome response time. My dryer broke and they fixed it the same day I put in the request. They are also very nice apartments for the cost. I would 10 out of 10 recommend this apartment to anyone who will be attending MSU.

Location to university is only good point I can think of. I had a leak above my tub that took a few months to get repaired. Trash is always overflowing on the ground. Cost me a extra 800 dollars for fictitious repairs when I moved out. Even shampooed the carpet the second time before moving out and they still charged for carpet cleaning in my room.I just hate the dishonesty of charging for things that were not done. I would never recommend anyone stay there even if it is your last resort.

Our apartment is under new management and making changes to rectify the situations. I do apologize that you had issues after move-out with your Final Account Statement. Please feel free to contact our office to dispute any charges.
Living at 21 apartments has been a great experience for me! I came in as a transfer student and did not know anything about Starkville at all. My parents and I decided to lease with 21apartments, because they look great and are worth the rent we pay for them. I noticed it was a quiet neighborhood that is also near everything you can get into while being a student at MSU. What we noticed in comparison to the other properties we checked out, is 21 has EVERYTHING included. Since they are paying most of my rent, they loved that! I have had terrible experience with past roommates and did not want experience that again. I did not know anyone here. So, I used the roommate matching. Thankfully, it was a great experience and all of my randomly matched roommates got along.

We are so happy to hear that you are enjoying your experience living at 21 Apartments. Thanks for your honest and upbeat review! We hope to lease to you again in the future!
This place was okay. DO NOT TRUST THEIR MATCHING POLICY. Make sure you have your own friends to live with and no one else. Also, expect to get hosed with "painting and cleaning fees" when moving out. I would highly recommend having them go to your apartment for a walk though and make sure you document every minor issue with the apartment when you move in.

We do apologize that you did not have a great experience with our roommate matching program here at 21 Apartments. Our management team definitely tries to match people as best as possible according to their roommate matching program.
