Bingham County's seat, Blackfoot, is a thriving small city located in the Idaho Falls metro area. Blackfoot is known as the Potato Capital of the World and is home to the Idaho Potato Museum -- the location of the world's largest potato chip. Blackfoot is also known for the Eastern Idaho State Fair, held every September. The fair includes a parade, races, a demolition derby, a petting zoo, live music, contests, crafts, vendors, and more.
Located near the Snake River, Blackfoot became a territory in 1885, but ranchers settled the area roughly ten years before. Visit the Bingham County Historical Museum to learn more about the city's early history. Downtown Blackfoot still offers that Old West feel with its historical architecture and trendy shops and restaurants.
Blackfoot has quite a few outlying communities, including Groveland, Moreland, Blackfoot City Center, Aberdeen, Fort Hall, Riverside/Rockford, Wapello, and Firth.
