Considered one of New York's best places to live, Dobbs Ferry has it all -- a fantastic location along the Hudson River, gorgeous parks, forested hills, historic architecture, and cozy neighborhoods along tree-lined streets. Located about six miles north of Yonkers, Dobbs Ferry residents enjoy New York's comprehensive mass transit system, including the Metro-North Railroad. The Dobbs Ferry station provides service via the Hudson Line, which takes passengers the 20 miles into Manhattan quickly and easily.
Like much of New York, Dobbs Ferry dates back to colonial times. It was first settled in the late 1600s. In 1698, John Dobbs established a ferry service. During the American Revolution, General George Washington and his troops encamped in Dobbs Ferry. The Mead House, built in 1855, is now home to the Dobbs Ferry Historical Society.
