Property Ratings at 300 Dewey St
The apartment itself was very nice, the walls are a little thin but not too bad. It’s a good amount of space for what I was charged, and it’s in a decent part of town. The driveway can be hazardous to pull out of but that’s just a minor inconvenience. If these apartments go under new ownership I would highly recommend them. It’s possible to get by with the current owners, but here’s what to be on the lookout for when dealing with them: -INITIAL PAPERWORK. No other tenant I spoke to had gotten their rental agreement back and signed, so if possible have them sign it when they meet with you and make a copy (or take photos of it) right then and there. -CHARGED DIFFERENT RATES TO RENT. The rent is not income based, however the other three tenants I spoke to all had different rates for spaces identical to my own, and we all started renting around the same time. Be careful of getting gouged! -SURPRISE VISITS. The owners normally do not notify you ahead of time if they are stopping by. Instead they show up, knock on the door, and if you don’t answer they WILL let themselves in if they think you aren’t home, even if the door is locked. Once they even let themselves in while I was napping! -RESPONSE TIME. If anything breaks or if you move in while something is broken STAY ON TOP OF THEM. When I moved in the oven didn’t work and the landlords promised it would be fixed within my first week. It took over two months of me reaching out to the owners before it was fixed. Some of the other problems they promised to fix when I first moved in were never fixed (broken blinds, missing mesh on some windows, broken latch on door). Later I had to go months with no refrigerator because it stopped working and the owners/landlords continuously ignored my calls and emails. I ended up moving out before it was ever fixed. -SECURITY DEPOSIT. Don’t plan on getting it back, regardless of how well you take care of the apartment.
