It includes 2,168 sq.ft. of finished square feet above ground, an unfinished basement and attic. The 1892 Hanscom Park Home in a Victorian Queen Ann style, was designed by George Hicks who is credited with developing the Hanscom Park neighborhood and is designated as an Historical Landmark in Omaha, NE. This home was originally built as a model home for the neighborhood with every upgrade available at the time, likely for the upper middle class. Constructed of wood with an ornate exterior consisting of steep gabled roof with turrets, highly decorative woodwork, details and colorful paint similar to the current paint scheme, with a large covered front porch and columns constitute the exterior of this amazing home. The interior is just as ornate and includes an entry vestibule, foyer with wood burning fireplace, parlor/living room with a converted electric fireplace, and library, separated from the den, dining, and kitchen area by 10-foot pocket doors. The updated kitchen has an island and beverage fridge, gas range with decorative hood and pot filler faucet, Corian counter tops and the bath and second staircase on the main floor leading up to the maid’s/servants’ quarters with a full bed. There is nursery, (now bedroom with twin trundle bed) attached to the large master bedroom with a king bed, and another extremely spacious bedroom (Queen room) with a queen bed on the second floor along with a 2nd floor laundry room. The base boards, grand staircase and doors are all ornate and custom made. Each door was built on site for the specific opening. The windows are tall and generous in varying sizes throughout the home allowing for sun-soaked rooms with stain-glass and lead glass accents. Beautiful handmade fretwork up the main staircase, intricate crown molding, stained glass windows, functional wood burning fireplace, maid/servant staircase, massive bedrooms, balcony off master bedroom, original 10-foot-high pocket doors and clawfoot tub and 12 ft ceilings on the main floor! Modern updates include spacious kitchen with an island, five new chandeliers replacing combined gas and electric lights and “gaseliers” which were high tech at the time allowing for both a gas flame light and an electric light on the same fixture. At the time electricity was new and home builders did not fully trust electricity at the time. According to a light fixture catalog, “By 1891 a revolution was underway, ELECTRICITY! Gas and electric chandeliers were created with Gas arms face UP- electric DOWN”. The home also includes high end wallpaper and ornate ceiling treatments, custom draperies and new luxurious beds and bedding in each bedroom.
