Historical Note: The October 2024 issue of the Ann Arbor Observer reported that when the poet,Joseph Brodsky,was expelled from Russia in 1972,the University of Michigan offered him the position of poet-in-residence,and later a full professorship in literature. While in Ann Arbor,he lived in this very apartment. Brodsky left Ann Arbor in 1981 and six years later was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. In 1991,Brodsky was chosen for the post of U.S. Poet Laureate (1991).
