There’s no doubt about it: Washington, New Jersey is quirky. It has a road named Boulevard Blvd. It is one of only two locations in the US that makes bowling pins. It was part of Washington Township, which surrounds Washington, but decided to break away in 1868. And if you go a building located at 25 West Washington Avenue, you’ll find a glass case built into the wall that allows visitors to view the foundation of the old Washington Trust Company bank, built in 1926.
Tucked away in the forested hills of western New Jersey, Washington is about 50 miles from Newark and about 30 miles northeast of Allentown, Pennsylvania. It is on the south end of the vast Delaware Water Gap, a 70,000-acre park that includes the scenic Gap, several hiking trails that includes the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, and places for boating, swimming, fishing, skiing, and more.
