Property Ratings at 3170 - University Crest Apts
To start off, it's an amazing location if you're a student. You can walk to UCR in under 10 minutes. The apartments are a gated community and only current residents know the gate codes because they changed the old code once all the new move ins were settled in :). Management has recently provided our community with a patrol service and have given us their number just in case we need to contact them when office hours are close WHICH is amazing because it makes me feel safe. University Crest Staff is very friendly and attentive. The staff always tries their best to get every request taken care of as soon as they can. If I put in a request, the same day or the very next it's been taken care of. It's a very calm community even though it's mostly students.
I lived at University Crest for two years (2015-2017) in a two bedroom apartment with one roommate. We were the first to live in this newly renovated unit. PROS SAFETY Feels very safe and secure (except when the gates are broken). Close to campus police department. PROXIMITY TO CAMPUS Easy to walk to most popular parts of campus. Front Desk Staff - All employees are friendly. CONS FRONT DESK HOURS Posted hours are 9am-5pm Monday through Friday, actual hours are closer to 10am-3pm Monday through Thursday. MAIL Mail is collected and sorted by the front desk. Non-USPS delivers to your door, other packages are held at the front desk. Since the front office hours are during a normal working day, it is difficult to get packages. FRONT GATE Car gate completely breaks 2-3 times per year for 2-3 weeks each time. You can always get in and out, but considering you are paying to live in a gated community, I found it unacceptable. Pedestrian gate is broken about 50% of the year. CEILING LEAK The ceiling leaked through a vent from the upstairs unit for 6 weeks. The leak occurred any time the upstairs unit used their heat. We were unable to use our heat because the area sparked when we turned ours on. UC acknowledged the problem, but the pipes are so old that they have to be custom made, and only one manufacturer makes them. The part needed was on backorder and they have “no idea” when they will be made again. The leak was never resolved, it just got warm enough that the upstairs unit no longer needs to use the heat. RAT We had a rat and UC did not care. They put out one mouse trap (too small to catch what was clearly a rat), and did not reply to additional maintenance requests or calls. We had to call our own exterminator ($350 ) who took care of the problem in one afternoon. SHOWER MOLD We had mold in our shower coming from the bathroom above our unit. It took maintenance 4 weeks to come by, and when they just painted over it. Mold grew back within the week. It took daily calls and visits to the front desk to have the problem fully addressed, nearly 2 months after the initial maintenance request. I had enough time to send the mold to lab for testing before the complex addressed the problem. TOWING My car has been towed from a parking place assigned to me twice. The towing company comes by every night and tows any car without a permit. Hope your permit never falls down, it’s $300 to get your car back!
This is the worst place to live you could possibly choose. If you can think of it, this place has it: ants, roaches, gnats, mosquitoes, horrible neighbors, crime (my front door got kicked in!), uncaring managers, everything. I'll try to say what happened in chronological order. First: When I signed up this place was well kept, pretty pond with fish and turtles, but halfway through my year contract they let it dry up and become a swamp. Soon after I was killing gnats and mosquitoes in my apartment daily. Second: Upstairs neighbors begin throwing organic waste in my porch area. They threw raw eggs, various vegetables, a melon, and crumbled sushi sea weed everywhere. I had no choice but to clean it up since I have a dog, and she would try to eat it all. Third: This place also is extremely slow with maintenance, and they do the bare minimum to fix whatever is broken. The security gate is near the entrance of my apartment, and was broken. It had been broken wide open for about 5 days. While I was in the living room with my girlfriend and dog, some dudes, probably in their teens, kicked my door in. Once they realized we were home they ran off. Say goodbye to your peace of mind. Fourth: Put in a maintenance request about my fire alarm beeping periodically all day, they say they "fixed" it while I wasn't home. It was still beeping, so I take it off the wall to fix it myself, and ANTS EVERYWHERE. They poured out of the wall, like literally hundreds. Thank god I had Raid spray. Absolutely disgusting. Oh that reminds me of the time that I saw some cockroaches on my stove... Anyways, DO NOT LIVE HERE!
Prior to moving in, they did fool me with the scenery of pretty pictures, and the low price of $340 thinking that's what I was going to be paying for my room, not per bed. The apartments renovations are cheaply done, the walls are supper thin and you can never get any privacy with noise. Whether its outside or the room next door, no matter how low the noise may be, you hear EVERYTHING that goes on around you. It was also annoying how almost every weekend, the water had to be shut off for whatever reason. I would think that after the 5th time of my water being shut of that the issue with the pipes would be fixed, but no. Their website also promises your kitchen to have new appliances but that wasn't so. The leasing office didn't seem that nice or helpful when it came to me asking questions about my lease or needing a service to be done. Before coming and moving here to UCR, if I would have known the low and cheap quality of this place, I would have looked elsewhere.
Apartment is a 1 bed 1 bath town home. We live on the second floor so we have nice vaulted ceilings which makes it feel like it is larger than it is. Great lighting and a large patio with storage closet. Our extra holiday decorations and clothes get stored out there for space. Brand new appliances, Internet included. The staff is extremely helpful if there is ever a problem, and it's great being able to pay rent online!! Makes it way easier! It's more expensive than I'm used to, but compared to other places it's great! And I can easily walk to campus. Pet friendly and they even host monthly community events for residents.
This place on hand is the worst place to live. Lets start first with the quality of work done inside the new renovated modern living space. Besides it looks like a cheap macco paint job. The workmanship is horrible to say the least. Qith the vinyl planks unevenly cut. To the paint crew who over paints and under paints. The lines in which you can see everywhere. The caulking in the bathroom is non existing. And on which i have put many, many work orders in for all these to get fixed, months later not one thing has been fixed. Also it seems the grounds of this place is invested with bugs. From termites to mange. Do they have a monthly service?no. This leads me now to the contruction. Which yes is very early. But my biggest thing is watching these workers at night. They squat On the premises. Meaning getting sleeping bags and staying in any apartment that is not occupied. The windows and doors on these apartments are not even level as the door ate hard to lock. The windows are such a low quality, with no weather stripping they allow all heat, cold, bugs in. And now with the carpet gone you hear your neighbours every move to when they step, to use the restroom. Oh the new kitchen is all basic cheap electric oven, to the cheapest refrigerator. The stainless steel sick, stains and oxidizes. The lights work when they want, and they shut the water off constantly without notice. The staff here was all nice, and will work this place up to sell it,but as soon as your in, they will do nothing for you. The maintenance man or men. Absolutely do nothing. I see them more talking all day thatn do anything, and they live for free.there wull be no dog park, the wifi they say they'll have is only 100megs for the whole place.they wull lie and cheat. It is not worth anything that you would have to pay. And as soon as my lease is up you cant see any other person run faster than me to get out of this place.
You’ve just bought a car from a dealership. You paid a pretty penny for it, but it’s worth it, you think. You’re excited to drive it out of the lot, and when you finally do, it breaks down half a mile from the dealership. How does that feel? I imagine that feels exactly like renting at University Crest. When move-in time came, I was blown away by the extent of lies that I’d eagerly guzzled. I was promised things: a dog park, privacy diver, & high speed WiFi. There won’t be a dog park. My apartment won’t have a privacy divider, b/c the land is supposedly not strong enough for people to have privacy. The internet took almost 2 months to get up. It reaches about 0.01-0.2 Mbps (slow). Let’s talk price. A 1 bedroom ranges from $986-1026/month. The 2 bedrooms go for ~$1500/month. The extra 150 square feet isn’t worth an extra $500/month. Parking costs $50/month. The Sewer, water & gas are split & estimated to be $40/month for a 1 bedroom & $80/month for a 2 bedroom. You also pay sewer individually (~$35/month). Electricity is ~$75/month. There’s a $17 fee for paying online. It costs $50/month/pet, & there’s a 2 pet max. Pet deposit is $500 in addition to the deposit of $400/person. Overall, a 1 bedroom can run a fee of ~$17,896/year. A 2 bedroom can run a fee of ~$23,424. There are gaps in the laminate flooring that are filled with glue. My front door is crooked, so it doesn’t close until you lock it. There are thick layers of paint that stand out. The bathtub has spackle dried all over it. The air vent in the bathroom and the lights are wired together, so you can’t do your hair or makeup without the annoying sound of buzzing reverberating throughout the apartment. I’ve heard of neighbors getting their apartments broken into. People climb the gates. The gate is always broken. Homeless people are everywhere. My bike was stolen four days after I bought it. I’ve requested that cameras be put in, but they haven’t. This is absurd, because cameras are in the office only. It’s clear that the residents are not a priority. I spent a month waking up at 7 to the screeching wail of construction. Also, some of the construction crew squats in the empty apartments. Because we split utilities, the residents are essentially paying for the squatters. Overall, there’s not much bang for your buck. One year is a long time to commit to a place. Find a place that cares about you, the resident. This is not that place. Don’t be the fool that breaks down a mile from the dealership.
