This house is for those who appreciate old world craftsmanship, history, and care. Her name is Betty. She is a 107 year old marvel that she is still standing, working well, and looking good. She was built in 1917 by an old school craftsman (20 years before building codes). The builder used locally collected field stones for the foundation. He sourced local heartwood (200-year-old growth wood, clear vertical grain Douglass Fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii). He had it milled locally “Betty has good bones”. The walls and ceiling are 1 and a quarter inch of hand applied plaster (lath and 3 layers of concrete). The floors are all straight grain heartwood pine (you cannot buy this wood new today). The furnace is single-pipe-steam and produces wonderfully comfortable and steady heat and features beautiful old radiators. Many of the doors, hinges, and many of the locksets are vintage 1917. The trim carpentry is classic late Victorian from 1920s with fluted casings and rosettes. The walls, basement and attic have been sealed with modern insulation and sealants. The doors are upgraded to state-of-the-art fiberglass. The windows have been upgraded to vinyl. The electricals, water source, hot water, and most of the plumbing has been updated. Everything else has been modernized. The lights are all LED. The Internet is capable of 8Gbps access. The door locks are digital coded (enter the code and you are in -- no keys are needed). Yale electronic door locks are on all three entry doors (Front, Side, and Back) and are accessed with a 4-digit code followed by the checkmark key. I will provide your code when you register. Ring Pro Doorbell cameras are on all three entry doors (Front, Side, and Back) and support two-way conversations. If your code fails, ring the doorbell, I can answer from wherever in the world I am. Then I can unlock the door remotely using the Yale automated deadbolts. Ring Pro Floodlight cameras provide all around state-of-the-art security with images and floodlights showing the sides and back of the house. The storage area is monitored with a Ring cam. Ring Pro Security wireless system is self-monitored and can alert you to movement or opening of doors. Once you are in the house, you have complete privacy. The location is close to a wide range of resources (restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, parks, community events, Town Hall, YMCA, Library, and the list goes on). • Fairfield University bus stop is just down the block. • The Reef Shack bar and sandwich shop is across the street. • Nearby access Interstate 95 gets you going quickly when driving. • Multiple mass transit choices to a variety of metropolitan centers including Manhattan, Providence, and Boston. • Concrete driveway with enough room to park 2 cars in front of the gate.
