Property Ratings at 350 Merrick Rd
I lived here 2019-2023 and loved so much of it. I’d give it a 5 but I know my take is less critical than most. Cons up front: -The parking garage can sometimes be a blind turn due to street parking in the area -not all of the apartments were renovated so you could have a pristine new one or a slightly older wood look. Both were nice but it depends on your preference. -there are the occasional bugs, but the management is very responsive and at most I’d spot one or two house centipedes per month and they were harmless Pros: -management is extremely responsive and the superintendent is very friendly -packages are often left in the lobby for pickup and I never had any issues. A few times other tenets would bring the package to my door if they were passing it -it’s close to the LIRR and all of the RVC restaurants -no frills of amenities that other places significantly up charge (like a gym or communal area) If I was moving back to the area I’d try to get an apartment here again.
At first glance, the apartment complex at 350 Merrick Rd, Rockville Centre, NY 11570(also known as Nassau Merrick Apts LLC, & is managed by Gilman Management,) clean & well-kept. The landscaping looks clean too. Once I moved in, I started to notice all the things I wish I would of known. Let me start with the fact that 1) this building has roaches. I did not expect roaches in this apartment because I wasn’t told there were any. I've lived in apt buildings before & had no roach problems. I was upset once I saw a couple of roaches in my own apt. A fumigator does come every couple of weeks during the day to fumigate if you want them too, but this hasn’t solved the problem. There are roaches that can come in through the gap underneath your front door & radiators & also roaches in the basement floor near the garbage shoot. There are even roaches outside at the side entrance on the grass/sidewalk at night. 2) The hallway carpeting is filthy dirty and is stained with a grey/brown color because they haven't been clean in possibly years. It was a blue color but now it’s covered in filth. 3) I can hear the people upstairs walking all throughout their apartment. It's not their fault because they aren't stomping or running, it's the thin wooden floors that were installed. When this building was built, they tried to save money on construction cost by using less materials/cheaper materials. This is an old building & the thin wooden floors that were installed have now warped & make creaking sounds when walked on. 4) There are 3 washing machines & 3 dryers in the basement for the entire building. The laundry room has specific hours & it's not 24/7 because there is an apartment which is being rented above it. 5) There are building parking spots but you can only park there if it’s on your lease. Otherwise you’ll have to pay approx. $500 for the year to park in the RVC lots. There are approx. 60 apartments in this building & not enough parking spots. The rent at this building is cheap but I realized now it's because of everything I've mentioned already. I believe that it is not worth the price, no matter how cheap it is. I would pay more money to live in apartment where the hallway carpets are cleaned, where there are no roaches, where the apartment floors aren't cheaply made/old so that I don't have to hear the people upstairs every day. You learn to live with this.
