Property Ratings at 3649-3657 Regal Pl
I hope this review will be able to capture all the charm and whimsy of the remarkable rental I'm so grateful to call my home. My place has tons of character and I loved it the moment I walked through its arched entryway. It is one of 6-units that range from one to three Bedrooms and are grouped around the pool. These Hollywood bungalows are more authentic than Jim Morrison ever sang about. Each one has a number of distinctive features that make it totally unique but at the same time they all are equally special. The Spanish-style architecture was a Los Angeles favorite in the 1930's and 40's. As the movie and television industries grew, scouts would bring actors, directors and writers from around the country out to L.A. and the studios would house them here. Suddenly, a double-gated colony of cottages, tucked in the hills just south of Universal Studios, was an extremely hot property and a historic legacy ensued. According to a biography on Steven Spielberg, (that included the address,) Spielberg lived in one of the 2-Bedroom bungalows here in 1971, when he was directing his first picture, "Duel," for Universal. The book also mentioned that Bobby Darin wrote, "Splish Splash" while residing in the unit next to mine. I've heard that Spielberg used the pool to test some of his ideas for "Jaws" but that hasn't been substantiated. I would not be surprised if that ended up to be true, however, as one can genuinely feel a creative spirit as they walk along these grounds. Specifics about my place: As you enter my bungalow you first come into the living room, with its hardwood floors, curved ceiling, textured-plaster walls, built-in bookcases and carved window treatments. These details tend to elicit a visceral response. This is complimented by my choice of colorful, 1950s decorating. It really is a room that makes everybody smile. The short hallway from the living room leads back to the one bedroom that has the same hardwood floors. It's a small room but has windows on two of the four walls. The bathroom and kitchen that flank the hall have black-and-white checked linoleum floors. The bathroom has a tub for any future geniuses that happen this way. The kitchen is long and rather narrow but the tiled countertop provides plenty of room to cook. Behind the kitchen is a small laundry room. It has washer and dryer hookups but the stackable Maytag is mine. The back door leads to the most wonderful private yard. The redwood deck and twinkling
