Property Ratings at 4000 Massachusetts
The building has a major pest issue. Besides mice and roaches, we recently started having bedbugs in the building. On top of the rat infested abandoned cars in the garage, the homeless people hanging out in the stairwell and in the hallways, the constant smell of weed filling the hallways and coming into the units, this is not a building I could recommend. It is a shame, because a few years ago I could not say anything bad about the building.
They go above and beyond to provide the best possible service to Tenants.
The staff is super friendly, but unfortunately… This building has been infested with roaches for quite some time now. We have to have the exterminator treat our apartment every week. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. We can wait to leave this apartment building. The building is trying to combat the infestation (trash trucks comes now everyday) but it’s been almost 6 months and they are still here.
4000 Mass Ave has the largest apartments I have seen in this area at the most reasonable prices. We have a closet we call our "guest closet" because it doubles as a sizable guest room, along with many other large closets in our apartment. There are more than 100 children of all ages in the building, and there is a weekly playgroup for babies and toddlers hosted in rotating apartments. The sidewalks outside are great for scooters and chalk drawings. The neighborhood is very safe and the schools are well regarded. There are a number of nearby playgrounds, we are right next door to woods with a trail, and residents on the first floor have doors that open up to their own backyard. There is also a nice pool. We are on some great bus lines that make it easy to get everywhere. There is both on street parking and a parking garage. Downsides to living here with children include shared laundry facilities (but many, many washers!), paint that chips easily, and the general challenges of living in any apartment with children (worrying about noise, not having a backyard, occasional cranky residents who don't like kid noise, etc.). There are also long, dark hallways (a plus when you need to burn off rainy day energy, a minus when you're trying to get inside with a meltdowny toddler). The management is very responsive. Residents are mainly young families and older retired folks, but there are certainly all ages in between as well. It is a large building! All in all, we are glad to live here, and we love the other families we know-- a nice community.
A lovely and most picturesque building set on large, beautifully landscaped grounds with ample front driveway, street, or garage parking. The professional management staff is on-site daily, address inquiries quickly, and provide a very clean and well maintained interior. Conveniently located next to the DC metro bus stop for any downtown traveling required or desired. Just a few blocks to grocery and specialty shopping, or a plethora of excellent eateries. The neighborhood, NW DC, boasts several nearby walking/running/bike paths and trails, the National Cathedral, American University, US Naval Observatory, Grover Archibald Park, Smithsonian National Zoo. AKA "Embassy Row",a section of Mass Ave about 1/4 mile from the property, you will find a concentration of mansion-style homes which are sites to many foreign embassies and consulates. The 24-hr friendly concierge and doormen who man an impressively spacious lobby make leaving and returning most pleasant. They offer any and all assistance, and add to an overall safe, family-feeling atmosphere. All of your utilities are included in what is a most reasonable rent for this gorgeous area. Additional amenities here in the building include: dry cleaners/tailor, valet for deliveries, convenience food store with breakfast and lunch-time grill, a women's full beauty salon, and spacious laundry room with Wi-Fi connection. I particularly enjoy having a large pool with extended evening hours, a 2-tier patio area with plenty of chaise lounges, & umbrella dining tables. All residents get accommodated so nicely that you never getting a crowded feeling, even on weekends! Whether you are a single professional(s), a family, just getting settled in DC, or one of the many residents who have lived here for 30 years, this building definitely caters to All. Such a great place to call home!
We moved back to DC from Cali five years ago. It was hard giving up a home but the hardest part was facing rising rents, noise in the early morning and rodents. We moved four times, trying to find a place where we could settle. Finally, a friend suggested that we tour the apartments at 4000 Mass. Ave. and I was pleased. The area is green, lush, and serene yet right off the main streets. There are restaurants and a Giant, CVS and banks nearby. In the spring, summer and fall a local farmer brings fresh fruit and vegetables to the street corner. We have a pool for hot summer days, and a convenience store on the property. Whaaat?! But the most important things are the apartment itself; quiet, spacious and so clean. No bugs, no mice, etc. and the best maintenance staff that shows up at my door within 15 mins. of a call. The extra special bonus: the staff of this building is approachable at all hours, friendly and helpful beyond belief. People have lived here for decades (no exaggeration). I am finally home.
Great location, with metro stops at the front and side of the building, and walking distance to restaurants, CVS and Giant grocery store. All staff (office, maintenance crew, doormen and front desk) are extremely friendly, and know you by name. The rooms are extremely large with large windows and plenty of closet space. We are fortunate to have a balcony near the "forest" area that is picturesque during the spring and winter.
Once upon a time, this apartment was affordable, big, set back from the street and just a bus ride away from downtown, D.C. Today, the rent is skyrocketing, the mgt team seem to have lost the plot and the landlord is becoming a stereotype. But, what still has allure are the people who live here: Old, young, international, funky. The doormen are wonderful: Old, young, international, funky. What's a single Mom of two boys supposed to do? The rent creeps up and the stress rises and yet, there is no clear way out. As much as I want to stay, the reality is, that the rent is driving all of us, the funky one, the live ones to flee for apartments further afield. I hope to stay in this paradoxical paradise fora bit longer.
4000 Mass is a lovely building with a very pretty lobby, cheerful staff at the door and front desk, and spacious apartments. The apartments have wonderful views of Glover Archbold Park, the National Cathedral, and the pretty towers of The Westchester. A great pool and swim pavilion, grocery store, beauty salon, and valet service are nice additions. A truly international community of nice neighbors.
When the roommate and I were searching for an apartment we never imagined we would stumble across such a great place! The building itself is truly incredible and that complementary breakfast is unmatched! Overall I am proud to have lived in such a great place, but I was forced to move because I never payed my rent once.
