Property Ratings at 42 N Bedford St
I lived here for two years. The first year was great with very few issues. In the second year, I had mice in the apartment off and on for over six months. I confirmed with other tenants that their units in the building also had mice. Management would send pest control, but they would only set traps and I felt that they were not really treating the issue. The walls are very thin and the floors creak at almost every step. I received one written noise complaint from management during the two years I lived here. As a result, I purchased additional rugs and wall coverings, as well as adjusted my volume and schedule to not be a nuisance to neighbors. The landlord chose to not renew my lease and cited noise complaints as the reason. Again, I only received ONE email from management notifying me of any problems. I found the landlord to be rude and unprofessional in our exchanges that followed and ultimately feel that spending a third year here would have been a bad idea anyways. While the rent is cheap, I don't think it's worth the stress of dealing with the landlord or the building issues.
I wish I could rate this place negative stars. This entire building is built so poorly and it's so old. The front door slams shut, shaking my unit. The walls are so thin and the floorboards are so old that I can hear everything that I can hear the tenant's TV clearly and feel their footsteps when they walk within their own unit. I'm practically roommates with the other tenants. The appliances are all outdated and very weak. The kitchen cabinet space is so poorly designed, most of the space is inaccessible/so small. Some tenants have dogs and they are so misbehaved that they bark at anything and everything all the time. This place is an absolute hellhole. The only positives are the location (near Clarendon, US-50, 395) and the parking (unassigned uncovered parking in the back). If you value your sanity, stay away from this place. It's not worth the low rent.
This was hands down my favorite apartment ever. The neighborhood is quiet and clean. It's also easy to hop on Route 50, highways, and GW Parkway. The community is just down the street from a bus stop, and a lovely stroll to the Clarendon Metro Station. It was nice to be tucked in to a neighborhood just outside of Clarendon. Great food all around and bike trails! I wish I could have stayed here longer. The management is quick to respond, friendly, and very helpful. Both the exterior and interior of the property is very well maintained. I really miss coming home to this place every day.
