MacArthur Park was billed as Los Angeles’ version of New York’s Central Park when it was under construction. Today it has become much more than the green grass and lake that comprise it. The park and the 2.72 mile area that surrounds it — also called Westlake — is one of LA’s most historic neighborhoods.
Victorian homes and apartment complexes characterize the area, but newer developments are going up quickly. On the east side of the park is where you’ll find an eclectic mix of bars and restaurants. Big-box stores will take care of most of your retail needs, while entertainment lovers will appreciate the Staples Center residing just across the 110.
The park is obviously the biggest calling card of the neighborhood, and it has become increasingly well-maintained over the last few years. Enjoy a picnic near the lake and the expansive view of the LA skyline in this up-and-coming locale.

Property Ratings at 422 South Lake
The people here do not respect their neighbors. They are LOUD until past 2AM EVERY NIGHT. Their friends pull up in the middle of the night and honk their car horns. Loud, rude, disrespectful.
I do not recommend anyone to move in to this apartment! Yes, it seems nice when you first come, but after living in here for 2 years, I have to say it's not worth it to live here. I've been living in downtown for several years and I can tell you there are so many apartments where you can feel SAFE in stead of worrying about your package been stolen or your car been broken in!! It's definitely NOT A SAFE PLACE although they have some security guard who will only show up at late night. Also, your neighbors will play loud music and party at 3PM just like other reviews said.
Simply put, the management staff is very unprofessional, specifically the onsite manager Melody. This someone the takes advantage of her job, this woman stays up till 2am blasting music in her apartment with the windows and doors open for everyone to hear. Not just on weekends but on a nightly Basis. She consistently throws parties with no concern for anyone, one occasion this woman walked into the home of an resident having a get together completely unannounced with a friend of hers. She proceeded to eat and drink all the food to the point that the host had to move his gathering to another location. One intense when I came to complain about the noise Melody was making to the security he simply said “yea we get a lot of complaints about her, she likes to party a lot”… Again this is the property manager!! As far as her work ethic goes, I have not once seen her in the office, both her and “ security “ are never to be seen. During her work hours you can find her relaxing in her apartment or anywhere put where she should be. Try calling now, I guarantee you no one will answer.
We have nothing but trouble with this apartment since the begging. The apartment is suppose to have security at all time because of the area. When the seucurity is actually here you can never find them because they are either sleeping in their car or smokeing week on the roof! Today we had an instadent where a homeless lady was able to make her way into the building and she started a fire on the second floor at 7 in the morning and we all had to evacuate until the fire department came and take care of it! Please don’t risk moving in here
