Satsuma, Alabama is named for the satsuma oranges that populated the area. The oranges were introduced to the state in 1878. The area of Satsuma, then known as Fig Tree Island, had more than 100 acres of satsuma and pecan trees by 1910. Today, Satsuma serves as a tree-filled, family-friendly suburb of Mobile, located 10 miles south.
Discover the natural beauty of Satsuma in its parks. Steele Creek Park is ideal for boaters and disc golf fans, while those with children will enjoy Wright Park’s playground, tennis courts, and splash pad. The east side of Satsuma sits along the vast green space of the Mobile River and its bayous and is considered the gateway to the Mobile Delta.
