Property Ratings at 58 West – Luxury Student Living
DO NOT move in to this place. This is the WORST housing complex in kalamazoo! The manager is nothing but a rude lady that does nothing and the rest of the staff just "pretend" to take action. Apartments have major maintenance issues and are infested with pests that cause serious health issues.

This place is literally ran by college students... They say one thing but mean another. You will put work orders in and all that happens is cancellation of the work order with nothing being fixed. I seriously regret ever signing on for a new lease.

Good Afternoon, thank you for reaching out. There are student workers that work within our leasing office and they are trained weekly at our staff meetings to abide and regulate the community policies. The work order cancelled on your portal has a note on the account explaining why it would be cancelled. There were a number of work orders cancelled recently to minimize the duplicate entries for the same unit address for the same issue, but the note was updated to reflect "duplicate entry". We are actively hiring for maintenance and ask that you please reach out to our community directly so we can assist you further with your other concerns, (269) 544-1700.
They don’t even deserve one star. They are VERY unprofessional. We were told we didn’t have to have a roommate and my girlfriend could be on the lease. Had me and my girlfriend under the wrong lease she wasn’t even on the lease and they said we HAD to have a roommate or pay extra money they miscommunicated which made us not want to live there anymore we didn’t want a roommate and our budget couldn’t fit the extra money. so we tried to get our down payment back considering we didn’t finishing paying it, our lease hasn’t started, we never stepped foot in the apartment and we weren’t on the right lease so I don’t understand why they keeping my money. We went up there to talk with the manager she didn’t even want to talk to us. Then when we finally got to talk to her she said she will call us back in a week to see how we can solve this. We NEVER got a call. and never got a email until we emailed them for the THIRD time. Not everybody has $600 to just throw down the drain.

Hi, thank you for reaching out. The Housing Agreement that was submitted was for a multi-bedroom floor plan and without mention of a girlfriend on the application, the request to add an additional occupant requires additional steps. When you mentioned not wanting another roommate, we were able to offer a studio; however, studio and suite floor plans do not stay available more than a few hours [in some instances] within our community. We wish we were able to change your experience and will discuss these concerns with our team for a better future. I encourage you to email our management team if you have any questions regarding your account.
Horrible place, terrible living space conditions & bad management. First building I was put on had a disgusting bathroom with mold when asked to transfer several times I had to pay the transfer fee. The doors are terrible if you ever get locked out after a long day of work or school your out of luck and you must pay a fee for a new key if you left yours inside your apartment and on top of that If you get locked out after office hours you have to wait over an hour outside the clubhouse to have someone come and reactivate your key! Terrible experience I wish someone would of warned me about this place don’t waste your $ here pay that extra $50-$100 to go elsewhere.

Everything is constantly breaking. The office knew us by name because of how many maintenance request we had to make. Bugs we constantly getting in because of cracks around windows and doors. They also like to make false charges. Told my roommate she owed them $500 for carpet replacement when they never replaced the carpet. Thy love to take advantage of college kids until a parent is called to set things straight. Walls are thin so you can literally hear your neighbors conversations. The staff is very friendly but that’s all the good that can be said.
I’ve been living here for the past year and all I had was problems. The office is very dysfunctional, out of order, incompetent and much more. They try to literally scam you out of the little money that you do have. I have recently been having outages from my WiFi and no one even cared. They gave me s run around about why my apartment( out of the whole prop) was out. One of the excuses was because of a “storm” but wouldn’t everybody’s be out? They are money hungry once a again. I have been seeing bugs in my apartment, my bathtub faucet been broke for about 2 weeks now and no one haven’t even fixed it yet! Very disappointing place and they need to get new people in power to fix this mes!
Do not do it I stay here now and i wish I never have they will take your money for any little thing and they will walk in and out your home with you there or gone I’m telling you don’t do it
This apartment community is extremely disguised because it has a very estate-like entrance and well kept grounds, but in all reality, everything in the apartments are falling apart. I toured this place a month or so ago before I decided I would lease here and I could hear the General Manager (Audra) on the phone screaming at a resident, that should have been my first red flag, but when she came out and smiled at me and insisted that this was the best place to live and to come back later because of a food event that was later that day, I figured I'd give it a shot. My leasing agent was very friendly, but you could tell they were pressured to lease to me, very very pushy. I ended up signing because they were offering a gift card and moved in about two months later. Yeah, this is where it gets interesting. The moment I walked into the apartment, it smelled like cigarette smoke and the keys to my bedroom were very poorly cut because it took about 2 minutes to get into the bedroom. Once I got into the bedroom, my jaw dropped, there was someone living in my room. They were in the bed asleep. I immediately went to the office and asked for the General Manager. She talked over the entire time, reeked of cigarette smoke and insisted that I give her the day to figure out what was going on. The next day, the issue seemed to had been resolved, but another problem occurred. Under my bathroom sink was completely covered in mold from water damage that had not been properly taken care of. I can go on and on, but I'm not on her to shame the place, but management is very unprofessional and I have seen the way the leasing staff is treated by them when I would go into the office. They are expected to take care of everything while the managers hide in their office. Pathetic. I would not live here again. Just sucks that I'm trapped in this lease for an entire year.
Management is inadequate. I lived there for 1 year 4 months. At its worse we had a roommate who harrased me, brought weapons on the property, stole my other roommates keycard (and duplicated his name to it so he had two cards, breeching their security system) to allow strangers in our unit while we were asleep without disclosure. It took management over a month to remove this person, and only did it because we threatened to leave. Still didn't evict him. Just moved him to a new unit. They care more about money then the well being of their tennants. Im so glad I don't live there anymore. They refused to send our legers to the new complex until I went in and demanded them in person. And now I cant even get my safety deposit back. Safe yourself the hassel. Its not worth it. Plus its way too expensive for how small the unit is and the furnitire is in poor shape.
These people lie and don't care at all. They will screw you at move out saying you owe for damages. It won't matter what proof you have. You can have pictures and witnesses or whatever. They don't care. It's obviously a scam to take student's money. The staff is very rude if you have a problem. WiFi internet is supposed to be included, but we went over 4 months without it with no reimbursement. Do not trust ANYTHING they say. They say anything to get you to sign the lease then call you a liar.
I spoke with the student staff in person July 9. I did not get to see the apartment that I was renting. They showed us a completely different apartment than what we were renting. One of the student staff members told me that I could sign the housing agreement right then and read the contract at a later time ( the contract is available online) until i decided if I wanted to keep the apartment. Bear in mind that I was with the two other people that wanted to rent the same apartment with me and another friend who wanted to see the apartments; I noticed that my prospective roommates did not read the lease. The apartment staff barely went over the lease with us. When I contacted the apartment staff on Monday to tell them that I read over the entire contract and no longer wanted to stay with them, they told me that because I had already signed the agreement I was liable for the entire lease and basically kept calling me a liar. I am a military veteran who has always told the truth no matter what the consequences are. And to have these people that know nothing about me call me a liar is something I will not stand for. They did not get into contact with the second staff member that we talked to on that Saturday and still told me I was lying. Their staff is not trained properly and even students that live in the apartments have told me, after the fact, that I should not trust the student staff and that the apartment management just wants my money. I do not want this to happen to any other veteran or college student. I have been upfront and truthful to them and all I received are lies. This is my first apartment experience and I have been left with a bad taste in my mouth.
Good, everyone is very help ful and the community area is awesome.
I lived here for 2 years. I did not have any issue that left a bad taste in my mouth. The office staff was very nice and anytime I had a maintenance request it was completed within 24 hours. Overall, its a good place to stay plus with the upgrades its very pretty and a nice place to live close to campus and shopping centers.
