Located about twenty miles west of Eau Claire and sixty miles east of the Twin Cities, Menomonie is a small and secluded city built on the shores of its namesake Lake Menomin. The lake is easily the city’s most defining physical feature, with everything in town built along its perimeter.
Menomonie is well-known as the home of the University of Wisconsin-Stout, which serves around 10,000 students and anchors the downtown district on the south shore of the lake. This part of town is packed with great dining and nightlife options, with hip coffeehouses, low-key diners, rowdy college bars, and classy cocktail lounges clustered together along Main, Broadway, and Crescent Streets.
Just a few blocks away, the atmosphere becomes much more tranquil, with residential neighborhoods full of affordable apartments, condos, and houses covering most of the landscape.

Property Ratings at 620 Northern Meadows Parkway
I looked at a lot of places in Menomonie before deciding to rent at Northern Meadows. American Edge is the rental company, but after reading some of their reviews on Google, I was a little leery to rent from them. Everything to this point has been fine and I'm starting to realize that maybe a lot of the complaints were from students, not residential renal buildings. The floor plan I live in is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath with an open living/kitchen/dining area. My apartment faces the back of the building, which offers nice privacy from the parkway. However, the majority of apartments face the parkway and have the patio or deck facing the busy parkway or walkway into the building. I would not want to rent one of those units, especially the units that have the living room facing the parkway and bedrooms right off of the sidewalk. The apartments that face the back of the lot are the nicest and I am lucky this one was open when I was looking. Closets are nice and big with plenty of room for storage. Noise is pretty isolated except when people are screaming in the hall or if the person above is walking around, moving chairs, or opening/closing their patio door. The build quality is nothing special. Floors are vinyl in the kitchen/dining and bathroom with carpet in the living room and bedroom. Carpet is not in great shape, but they did shampoo before I moved in. The patio is nice, allowing me to grill outside. However, be aware that if you have a 2nd story unit that Menomonie city ordinances do not allow grills on decks. The faucets, sinks, and bathtub are not high quality but feel cheap. The toilet is small and the mirror/medicine cabinet aren't very nice looking with minimal storage. The stackable laundry in the unit is loud and as noted in the lease agreement, I am liable if it breaks and needs repair. The AC units are also loud when sitting outside or if you have your screen door open. You can hear I-94 and the train rolls through wailing its horn very often and is quite loud. Additionally, the hallway always smells and the carpet is in terrible condition. However, even though I have my complaints, these apartments are still some of the best option for young professionals looking to get away from UW-Stout. I really struggled to find a place that was nice enough and affordable.
