Property Ratings at 65-94 162nd St
I was born and raised in Electchester, as were my parents. On both sides, my grandparents were original tenants of the complex. Electchester is a relic of a bygone era in the best way possible. It's a place where, if you live there, dad can go to work and mom can stay home to take care of the kids--and you can still afford a three bedroom apartment in New York City. It's safe, diverse, clean, and quiet. The apartments are spacious and solidly built and the grounds are well-kept. If you live there long enough, you'll get to know neighbors who have been there for decades. Conveniently located next to expressways and service roads, travel is easy if you've got a car. If you don't, there are buses to trains, and express buses directly to the city. As a Mitchell Lama housing complex, Electchester is one of the last of a dying breed (along with Big Six Houses in Woodside and some other Mitchell Lama complexes dotted across the city). I am thankful it still exists, and you should be, too. They don't make 'em like they used to.
Electchester, and the living is easy. Often confused with "Westchester," historic Electchester apartments were the dream of Harry Van Arsdale, the late, great leader of International Brotherhood of Electricians, local 3. It's a great place to live, and the 5 year wait for an apartment proves it. Conveniently located near two colleges, smack in the middle of leafy Central Queens, this is the last of the middle class redoubts. You won't see anything like it now. Affordable rents, electricity included. Spacious, well-built apartments on beautifully landscaped grounds. It's a blast from the past, in a good way.
