The Cottage.

I fondly call my apartment, 'The Cottage'. It is a small studio in an apartment building in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, and the first apartment in NYC that I have not had to share, in the fifteen years I have lived here. I have been in it for seven of those fifteen, and really appreciate the cozy, warm, welcoming quality of the moderately sized space, which gives me a sense of what an actual cottage may have felt like, with the wood floors and well heated winters. The location is excellent, close to most of the New York trains, and a wide, cosmopolitan array of restaurants and small stores, juxtaposed to offset the commercial but convenient mini-mall nearby. But once I am inside...none matters, because once those blinds are drawn, the candle lit, the cabernet poured, and my smooth jazz playlist is on, this Cottage can be anywhere in the world.
