Things are happening in Austin’s west side. This large neighborhood starts along the Colorado River and extends to the University of Texas-Austin campus. It includes several smaller neighborhoods, including historic Old West Austin, Bryker Woods, Tarrytown, Westfield, and Clarksville. On the west side, you’ll find tree-lined streets, waterfront restaurants, lakes, and Lions Municipal Golf Course.
Established in 1853, West Austin is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Deep Eddy Pool, located in Eilers Park, dates back to 1916. This park also offers a walking trail and a community garden. Other neighborhood landmarks include the Pease Mansion, Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Garden, and the Stone Windmill.
West Austin contains some of the city’s favorite restaurants, such as the Magnolia Café, Mozart’s Coffee Roasters, and Hula Hut. In addition to several parks, West Austin provides marinas, access to the Red Bud Isle dog park, and top-rated schools.

Property Ratings at 6th Street West Apartments Austin
The property quality is reasonable for the price, but what makes them 5star is the management. They communicate any issue with the complex (water outages/utility provider shutdowns) via text message and provide multiple updates over time. They are very responsive to maintenance requests and were very flexible with extending my lease at the end of my term. The property has issues (due to its age), but the location and price make up for the age of the property.
I've lived in two different apartments here for almost three years and love it. This apartment complex is nestled at the perfect spot where downtown meets Clarksville, MoPac, and Zilker Park. I work south and have rarely face much traffic because this apartment is located just shy of the main artery on MoPac that goes to North Austin - so commuting is a breeze. I love riding my bike around here on the weekends because there are plenty of protected bike lanes. This area offers pretty much anything working professionals like to do during leisure time: bars, restaurants, outdoorsy stuff, and gyms. The apartments themselves are nice, quiet, and spacious for a single person or couple. I've lived in a corner unit with large windows that overlook 6th St. for two years and love the ample natural lighting. The management is nothing short of excellent; I've lived in Austin for 7 years and have had hit-or-miss experiences with apartment managers, but the folks at 6th Street West take care of their tenants. Not only do they respond to maintenance issues promptly and effectively, but they also keep an open line of communicate with residents and try to keep rent low (a difficult feat as housing costs continue to rise in Austin). I'm leaving Austin soon to go to graduate school elsewhere, and I will be very sad to leave West 6th - a place that has truly become my home over the years.
I have lived at this complex for 1.5 years. You can't beat the location and the rent is very reasonable for the downtown location. Walkable to downtown and its very convenient right next to Mopac. There is a management office onsite and I have never experienced a more responsive landlord. They are very quick to maintenance requests. When I reported a broken fridge, they replaced it with a new one the very same day! Not all of the amenities listed on this site are available in all of the units but all in all a great place to live.
I found my one bedroom apartment in this complex and moved in a week later -- it was the first Austin apartment I saw, and I'm so happy I went with it! It's close to everything -- sushi, bars, gyms, salons, shopping, grocery stores. I work in The Domain and my commute is 15 minutes to get to work in the morning. Management is friendly and responsive if you have any problems, and they're great about accepting packages if you're not home. If you're looking for a downtown Austin experience that's not nestled in the insane loudness of actual downtown, this is PERFECT for you.
I have lived at 6th Street West Apartments for three years. The location is great and we are in walking distance from so many great spots. I have also had great experiences with the staff here. They have been very helpful through the years when little situations arise. Recommendation: Yes! Louis Anthony #402

Thank you for the positive review Louis. Here's to hoping you stay at 6th Street West Apartments another 3 years or more!
This has been a wonderful place to live, the inside of the apartments have been renovated. I love that you can walk to many restaurants, stores, and downtown events without the hassle and cost of parking. It's definitely the best apartments for the cost, management and location. FE

Thank you very much for the kind words. We agree that 6th Street West Apartments is close to so much, and it is great getting to walk to it all as opposed to driving and paying for parking.
I have now lived here for a year and a half and plan on not moving anytime soon. It's in the perfect location next to nightlife, Zilker Park, and right off Mopac. The apartments may be a little older, but I'm not one that needs much. I've learned it's all about the community and location. The community is great with everyday someone saying hello to me. The management takes care of their residents too, like really takes care of them. One of my best friends got locked out in the middle of the night and some maintenance man was able to come let her in. THEY AREN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO AID LOCK OUTS, but they love us:) If something in our apartment is broken or we have any issue, the team is on it within the next 24 hours. If you think living off 6th may be a little loud, it is actually quiet. As long as the rent doesn't burst out the roof, I hope to stay here until I want to buy a house. -Rachel Watson

Thank you for the kind words Rachel. Our maintenance staff was happy to receive the positive feedback. It is residents like you that make 6th Street West Apartments such a great place. We hope to have you living here until you purchase that house!
I have lived in WestSide Group apartments for years. I have currently lived at 6th Street West for a year and a half. I lived in one of their apartments in West Campus while I was in school. They were very helpful and flexible. I needed an earlier move in date due to the move out date of my old apartment and they made it happen. They have always been very responsive to any maintenance issues I have had. I have typically received same day service. Although they are not the nicest apartments in the area, they are an amazing deal and great place to live. I have never had a problem with any of my neighbors and although you are on West 6th it is pretty quiet. I adore the neighborhood and surrounding area. It has great access to Mopac, Clarksville, and Zilker Park is only a quick 15 min walk down the road! -Elizabeth

Thank you very much for the great review! We pride ourselves in having residents such as yourself. It was great having you in one of our West Campus communities while you completed school, and it is great having you at our 6th Street West Apartments as you continue your future endeavors.
I've lived at 6th Street West for 1.5 years. The units are pretty old and have an "old house" smell, but the location is great. You can easily walk downtown an to Lady Bird Lake. All of my neighbors are friendly. We are like a little community here.

We completely agree with you. Yes, 6th Street West Apartments is located in the bustling downtown corridor of Austin, but we are still our own little community here.
I have thus far lived at the 6th Street West Apartments for 4 months and have been very happy with the management team and the apartment. When contacted, they are extremely responsive and quick to alleviate the issue. The pool/community area is well maintained on a daily basis and for the affordable cost, you can't ask for a much better location. Having onsite laundry has been a huge time saver and I have not once had an issue finding a parking space. 6th Street West is the first apartment I had here in Austin since moving across the country. They made it very easy to sign the lease electronically and set me up for a seamless move-in. I have already recommended the apartment complex to several friends interested in moving into the downtown area. I have not yet seen any of the two bedrooms or apartments with different layouts, but the one bedroom that I currently reside in has certainly been sufficient.

Thank you for the kind words. We are happy to have made such an impact in 4 short months. Please keep sending us those referrals, because it is much appreciated and makes this community a great place to live. If you would ever like to check out a one bedroom with a study or a two bedroom, please feel free to contact the office.
Yes, this may be the least expensive apartment on West 6th Street, and yes, you probably will not find a better deal for a two bedroom apartment. HOWEVER, I would strongly advise you NOT to move here. We have found cockroaches and other bugs in our apartment. You have to request pest control to come and all they do is spray a little bit of solution by the door of your apartment. That is not enough to keep the roaches away. The management is very LAZY when it comes to fulfilling requests, if they even decide to fulfill a repair request at all. I have never in my life dealt with such incompetent property managers. My advice would be to stay away from this place and spend a bit more money to find an apartment where they actually care about the HEALTH and WELL-BEING of their residents.

The management at 6th Street West is very sorry to hear about your experience. As you know, our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and someone is always here during this time to speak with you. We can also be reached via phone at (512) 499-8013 or email at wsgaustin@yahoo.com. We hope you come by or contact us in some way so we can discuss this issue with you. We always treat vacant apartments for insects. Any time an apartment is vacated, Orkin goes into that unit and treats. Yes, it is up to the resident to contact us after move-in to let us know if there are any further issues. It is not effective to simply go into each apartment each week and spray. Most residents do not ever even need a treatment after they move in, and they do not want to be bothered with an unnecessary visit from the pest control man. But any residents who inform us of an insect problems will get their apartment treated, at no cost to the resident, until the issue is resolved. Each employee at 6th Street West has over 10 years of experience in the field, and none of us feel as though we are lazy at our jobs. Both Management and Maintenance. The owner of 6th Street West has 30 years of experience in the industry and is at the office every day to insure that tenants’ requests are responded to in a quick and professional manner. We are sorry you feel we are lazy, and we would like to help change this view you have of us. Almost all work orders get resolved within 24 hours, and we have residents routinely thank us for our quick response. We have onsite maintenance personnel who are here for quick responses to emergency maintenance needs. Again, please contact us at the office so we can better assist you with this issue. Finally, we absolutely care about our residents. 6th Street West would not exist without its residents. We realize that residents may sometimes get upset with us, but we will do whatever we can to make things right.
