Trump Tower

263 Units 58 Stories Built in 1983 599,047 Sq Ft

Trump Tower is the most iconic of all Trump properties. This is partially because it is synonymous with the former president and real estate developer (who lived full-time in the triplex penthouse residence until 2019, when he declared his Palm Beach estate, Mar-a-Lago, his primary residence), but namely because of its garish, brassy design. Conceived by American architect Der Scutt in 1983, the 664-foot tower features a 28-sided massing of horizontal setbacks that accommodate two public terraces, which were included as part of Trump’s agreement with the city to add more stories in Midtown Manhattan's special zoning district in return for privately owned public space. (These parallel planes sharply contrast the area’s commercial and residential skyscrapers, which are some of the most iconic structures designed with vertical setbacks, including 30 Rockefeller Plaza, The Chanin Building and The General Electric Building.) This composition affords a multitude of sides, creating the illusion of many corner-facing units composed of monolithic window walls — all of which come with the price tag of hyperreal views of Billionaires' Row. “With its bronze-tinted glass facade, Trump Tower's design is an iconic striking presence on Fifth Avenue,” says Michelle Griffth, Realtor at Douglas Elliman. “Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows are a standout feature, offering residents unparalleled views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline, flooding the interiors with natural light. “The floorplans are expansive and thoughtfully designed to maximize space and natural light,” says Griffith, who has sold multiple units in the building. “With nearly 360-degree views, each room is positioned to take full advantage of the stunning cityscape, and every corner is bathed in natural light.” Griffith says the “open-concept design” offers a seamless flow between living, dining, and entertaining areas, creating an open, airy atmosphere. Likewise, the bedrooms are largely proportioned to accommodate comfort and privacy. Every room features floor-to-ceiling windows opening to picturesque views of Central Park and Midtown treasures, like The Plaza Hotel, The Seagram Building and 432 Park Avenue Condominiums. Trump Tower comprises 231 residences across the top 38 floors of the 58-story building. Ranging from one-bedrooms to three-bedrooms, plus combined units and duplex and triplex units on the nine uppermost levels, the residential condominiums were recently renovated with marble-clad bathrooms, whirlpool bathtubs, multiple walk-in closets, bespoke kitchen cabinetry and numerous walk-in closets. A more modest listing, a 1,125-square-foot one-bedroom on the 33rd floor, with a mirror-paneled living room and a primary bathroom swathed in terrazzo (with a matching pink ceramic toilet and bidet), sold for $1.6 million in August 2024. Similarly, a 1,465-square-foot two-bedroom on the 32nd floor, with a massive walk-in coat closet and a 42-foot-long living room, sold for $1.85 million in June 2024. A 2,500-square-foot three-bedroom on the 57th floor, with a massive salon-like gallery clad in burnished koa wood, sold for $7.1 million in October 2021. One of the grandest listings, a 6,144-square-foot, custom-designed penthouse duplex with a 27-foot-long library swathed in cherry wood, sold for $23 million in September 2015. Trump Tower is outfitted with a 14,000-square-foot amenities suite, which is located on the very top floor. Featuring sweeping city views of Midtown, including the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building, Club 721 offers numbered spaces for varied needs. The fitness center is equipped with the latest cardio machines, weight training equipment, a movement studio, a pool, locker rooms with steam and sauna and a water filtration system that serves chilled sparkling and still water. Likewise, the library lounge was designed with bespoke bookcases, plush seating, built-in banquettes and integrated lighting. Similarly, the club boasts a luxuriously appointed billiards room, a business center with meeting rooms, a children’s playroom and a movie theater. Meanwhile, Griffith says the service in this white-glove, luxury building is “outstanding,” including a 24-hour door attendant, concierge, valet services, dedicated elevator operators and convenient laundry and maid services. On the lower levels, 721 Fifth Avenue includes an exclusive onsite lounge, a serene garden and courtyard, and high-end retail shops and dining options in the five-level public atrium, “ensuring a luxurious and convenient lifestyle.” A Fifth Avenue address is highly coveted for many reasons, but namely because of its association with what people think of when they envision New York. The avenue is home to high-end flagship boutiques and the country’s most luxurious department stores: including ten stories of jewelry at Tiffany & Co.; the Louis Vuitton flagship designed by Japanese architect Jun Aoki; the iconic upscale purveyor Bergdorf Goodman, which is known for its grandiose Christmas window displays; and the New York City designated landmark fashion emporium Saks Fifth Avenue. Meanwhile, at Rockefeller Center, the towering Art Deco architecture is full on display, including the public art collection of murals and carved sculptures. Besides shopping and architecture, the area is known for its highly regarded cultural institutions, including the flagship branch of New York Public Library, The Museum of Modern Art and St. Patrick's Cathedral. And, of course, one cannot get nostalgic about Midtown without mentioning Central Park and some of its most iconic destinations, including Wollman Rink, Central Park Zoo and Sheep Meadow. Its location “stands out because of its proximity to Central Park and luxury shopping,” says Griffith, “making it a prime choice for those who value a prestigious address in the heart of Midtown.” It is safe to assume most Trump Tower residents won’t take public transit every day. Instead, they will likely opt for car service or driving personal vehicles. However, that being said, the subway is, 99% of the time, the fastest way to get anywhere in all the boroughs (the exception being Staten Island, depending on the traffic and time of day). There are three subway stations within walking distance: Fifth Avenue-59th Street station with trains N, R and W; 57th Street station with the F train; and Fifth Avenue-53rd Street station with trains E and M. Alternatively, by automobile, the Queensboro Bridge via 59TH Street and the FDR via 58th Street are easily accessible.
