About This Property
Coming from Germany, and leaving behind a castle with moat and draw bridge, Hans Von Hagen became a very prominent rancher in the Ridgway area. He built this beautiful house, which included steam heat in 1906 for his wife Lucy. It cost him $4,000. She operated it as a boarding house for single female school teachers. It was subdivided into apartments in the Great Depression in 1927. We purchased the grand old property from the Krebs family who had owned it for over 100 years. We are completing a full renovation and have remodeled the property for the first time since 1927. Rooms have high ceilings and large windows. The bedrooms have spacious closets and all the floors are beautifully restored straight grain hardwood. Bedrooms have blackout curtains for the travel professionals on night shift...Located in downtown Montrose one block from the Regional Hospital, this property is in walking distance to local restaurants, breweries and stores. You literally will rarely need to use your car unless it is to explore the nearby towns of Ouray, Ridgway, or Telluride. Winter and summer sports include skiing/snowboarding, hiking and mountain biking.

Montrose’s Main Street looks like it could almost be anywhere, but the landscape that surrounds this Colorado town is anything but derivative. Set between Black Canyon and Uncompahgre National Forest, Montrose provides access to some of the most pristine wilderness the Southwest has to offer.
It’s an alluring place to live too. Residential areas spread out from the center of town, offering up ranch style homes and plenty of parks. There are apartments dotted all around the landscape too, some with amazing views of the mountains. If you don’t feel like hiking you can always spend an afternoon at Horsefly Brewing Company or any of the other popular spots on Townsend Ave.
Montrose is quite secluded, but there is a regional airport that makes domestic travel much easier.
